Says Lvl 20. ok, I am lvl 20. Am I doing something wrong or is there any reason I CANNOT beat the waves of skeles?
DK, overloaded armor, dang near overloaded spell resist, dropping that banner, overloaded health and mana. All the other mobs are childs play. Although I would not be surprised. Game design = armor and spell resist especially dont mean crap when it comes to pve.
So wtf is the secret? This is pissing me off and even more so because I CANNOT LEAVE THIS AREA.

And if I hear one more *** time about the hero who saved the king...

EDIT: Ok I got it eventually by dumping all mana into heal and sitting behind a shield letting mana regen for next wave while kiting around the last melee skele. Still, the level of difficulty from mobs -> boss scene AND not being able to leave the area... ㅗ to somebody

Advice for the classes I have played through that quest.

All classes: Burn down the casters asap. Keep moving, pretend like it's pvp. There are tons of aoe spells being flung around during this battle, keep moving.

DK: I actually found this fight kinda tough because the mobs are so spread out. DKs really shine when you can group mobs together, talon and burn em down. Makes this fight more difficult for that playstyle. Save your ult for the bone colossus, take out casters first. S&B is great for these types of fights with shield charge. Gets you mobility + an interrupt/knockdown. Keep Dragons blood up as much as possible. For scripted fights like this that tend to drag on don't blow all your resources right from the get go. Pace yourself. Gonna have to swing that sword or point the glowy stick at things to make them die.

Sorc: Hope you have a resto staff as your offweapon. Heals + mana regen = no problem with this fight.

NB: bow/twohanded. No a lot to say here. I know the fight didn't seem that tough. Critical charge for mobility to the casters or poison arrow interrupts. Soul tether ult is a godsend for NB when things go horribly wrong. Save it for when you can hit the most mobs. Probably when the bone colossus shows up.
    On Class Balance
The real dilemma is that; Powdered doughnuts are overpowdered, the chocolate doughnuts are too chocolaty, and the coconut crunch doughnuts have more coconut than all other doughnuts. This is OUTRAGEOUSLY unfair to other doughnuts!

So from now on, all you special snowflakes get is nasty plain doughnuts...enjoy!

I did it at like level 23 as a nightblade. It was pretty easy, though I did have some close calls. I only ever had problems with Veteran mobs and Some level 47-50 mobs if there is more than 2-3.
didn`t have any trouble with this encounter and that was on my lvl 20 nightblade , bow /2h , target the skellys , and move dodge etc
The world is ending, nightblades do better than DKs.

Funnily enough, I had the same experience. The first time I did this quest, I was playing a DK and I got my ass handed to me. This taught me to stay slightly overleveled for main quests, which might explain why I later didn't have as much trouble with Halls of Torment as everyone else seemed to have.
My next character was a nightblade. Either something changed about the quest (maybe Lyris decided to actually be useful...) or I just knew the battle inside out from dying so many times before, but I beat it the first try.

My challenge is doing them at level or below level.

I did the Fighters Guild finale recently on a resto/destro Templar at 35. Bow sorc did them at 36 and dk tank at 37.

This temp now, going to try at 34.

I have Izruar and last boss on video. As well as Haskill for Mage guild. Clearly shows complete at 35.

Can't wait to read your reaction to the Valley of Blades harborage quest. It ought to be epic. ;)
Yeah, that one was tough. I had to run away from combat screaming like a little girl multiple times before I managed to beat it. Oh, and I died a couple of times in there too.

Im about 99.9999% certain that quest was bugged. Ill find out if they fixed it this weekend.

They didn't. They even deny it's anything wrong with it(!)

Well my Dumner Fire Mage just waltzed it. He had quite a bit more trouble with a certain 'stand around' female's doppelganger a while before. Wham bam, meet 'big sparky' thank you mam. Dropped the beast 4 times in the one before.

Been experimenting with him. Did you know Surge works on Overload? It does! Oh yeah. ;) Hundings Rage and we have a contender.

I am about to take my Vampire DK through this one. My Vampires love adds, so tasty. My witch became a Vampire after that quest.

After all this time I don't know why people still take Lyris on that one, my experience of three runs on it is that Abner is actually useful.

I completed the Valley of Blades harborage quest very easily actually. But I used a bow NB. They never stood a chance.

in the last patch notes they made the skellies a little easier.
I did it last night on a bow-using NB .. previously twice on Templar and once on Sorc .. and it seemed to me the skeletons were more than just a 'little' easier, I'm not sure if they also didn't remove one, were there always 5 per wave or 6? Lyris actually moved to engage one this time, in the past she's stayed where she starts the fight.

Are you suggesting the OP should just L2P?

Pretty certain there were always four per wave.

I did it first with my Vampire Witch and I took him that time, he does work hard. I decided to try Lyriss, the second time, I think she spent more time looking at me than her doppelganger.

The quest level and your effectiveness in fights have nothing to do with each other.

Main story, fighters guild and mages guild quests are all VERY easy for my Templar. Now on the first tries I noticed difficulty for some and especially this one. I keep 4-5 skills free so that I can pop them in when needed.

The second time around I'm flying through the game. Knock back or any skills that your class have plus a weapon skill to keep mobs down is the way to go.
Preserve your magika and stamina to only heal and knock back while using the basic attacks.

That's how I've been successful. Also if you're patient only one aisle comes at a time. DO NOT RUN up to start fights. One shot ranged for all.

This is very true and proves the point that player skill trumps gear and level every time. I didn't play the beta so had no concept of the game before launch so questing was very difficult at the start of the game. By the time I rerolled I had figured the game out and it was so much easier. If/when I ever roll a 3rd alt it will be easier still because I have learned more tips and strategies from vet content to. Like looking for the high damage telegraph animations. Knowing which mobs to CC and which mobs to hit first in a group. ZoS had to take this factor into account when they scaled the difficulty otherwise rolling an alt wold just be a complete faceroll of all content.
