New Problem - Game crash my computer

Utopi

Hi Everyone!

I've been playing ESO since release and I've played a lot. I'm having a new problem for the past couple of weeks.
My computer screen goes black and shut down like it does when I power off my PC. After that, my keyboard and mouse will shut down.
The only way for me to recover from that is by pressing the power button until my pc shut down.
Has anyone experience this before?

The only time this is happening is when I'm playing ESO - location doesn't matter. Whether im crafting, exploring. But it never happened when I was fighting or farming.

I'm playing with almost everything but shadow at ultra or high. I have a 480GTX and i7 3.9ghz CPU. 6gig ram.

Also, it's pretty hot in the room but I have A/C running and I remove the dust from my case every 3 months.

Thanks

If you're overclocked, you might want to go back to normal settings.

It was factory overclocked. The thing is, it almost never happens. But then It'll crash 4-5 times under 3 hours. I don't have anything else (aside from Chrome) running in the background, no steam either.

    GPU overheating I guess.

Shouldn't I get a warning message before it crashes? When I open my PC again I get the Windows msg that try to see what went wrong but it can't find anything

It's not your hardware. My layman opinion is ESO got some flaw in its programming after last patch and it makes the PC uses maximum resources unecessarily. So your hardware likely getting stressed to maximum and it shuts down in a form of self-defense. The solution is to wait for them to fix the clear bugs that came with patch (FPS drop, etc). But what do I know?

Just to calm your mind, try run a similar game and see if it shuts your pc down. I can't think of anything other than Skyrim on Ultra as test. If you don't have access to Skyrim try any DX11 game.

I ran Skyrim at Ultra for 300+hours and BF4 at ultra for 200hours+. Anyway. I hope it's on their side and a fix will come.. some day. Thanks!

I had a GPU which produced that error, had to get a new one. You can try to run a stresstest to check the GPU temp, but if the problem is intermittent you may no find any thing in the stresstest.

Yes, the colleague above might nailed it. I had lots of problems with GPUs in the past, sometimes they would work, sometimes not at all. It offers quite a puzzle to diagnose the problem. You said ran those games, but I meant to do a test now. Like play them for the same amount of time your ESO crashes. How old is your GPU? I seriously doubt is your hardware but I know how frustrating is to wait the company solve the problem. Tomorrow will have a regular maintenance, no patch or hotfix announced but maybe it fixes it. If you have nothing else to do really run tests in your GPU till it melts just to be safe.

Sounds like overheating and sometimes when things get burned out on video cards you don't get a worry, just starts to fall apart slowly and becomes unpredictable.

Need to stresstest and other things people have mentioned.

    I will try that tommorow.

What bugs me is that it's so random. Earlier I got a repreating-loading screen. It would load the same thing back to back to back.
I can play 5h+ and it'll crash or after 10mins. Dungeons, city, middle of nowhere.

It was random for me to, getting more ferquent with time.

Over heating would be my first guess... but other options as well eg. could be a fan that is breaking lose on the GFX card as well or not running as it should be... for an instance a malfunctioning ball bearing.

There is a chance for your PSU started to malfunction as well...

Anyhow it is not healthy when it start doing that even if system is proper cooled.

Yes, PSU. My faulty PSU broke my GPU, I replaced GPU without knowing the problem was the PSU. The new GPU would shutdown when using Skype, but also run 10 hours straight if I logged ESO before all other applications, then after a week ESO started shut down too. I replaced the PSU and all shut downs gone. So you ought to test with other application.
