Sweet Irony

A few days ago a thread was pulled the subject was over people begin allowed to post I quit threads. A post was put in the development tracker from ZOS staff as to why that happened. At the end of the post the Moderator writes that everyone who closes their accounts should of gotten an exit survey and if you know someone who didn't to submit a bug ticket. That sums up the entire TESO experience. Sweet Sweet Irony.

What's ironic about it? That you get a survey instead of spamming the forums as to why you quit?

    That's not ironic >.>

Ok so we get you on track. The point is that this mmo is so poorly run they can not even keep track of the people they are billing that they need to ask the customer to remind them to send a survey that is supposed to make you think they care and really are trying to fix things and want you to stay so they can bill you again. That help out?

That's... that's not what it is at all. Not even remotely. "I Quit" threads, in any game, anywhere, universally devolve into rolling flameballs, with more childish insulting and profanity than you can shake a stick at. ZOS don't want that on their forums, which is perfectly reasonable and understandable. So, any time such a thread is made, they close it to cut the flaming chaos off.

In fact, they've explicitly said they only close them, instead of outright deleting them, because they actively want feedback from people who leave. Just not the feedback that person gets from the rest of the forumgoers. Hence, the survey; a chance for people who're leaving to provide all the feedback they want to, without it being in a public forum where the conversation'll inevitably go off-track.

People are under the impression that developers care about exit polls?

Some (admittedly a very few) "I quit" threads do give some constructive criticism as to why they left. Threads should be taken on an individual basis, isn't that what Moderators are for, not just blanket removal of all threads !

Exit polls are actually some of the best feedback you can get from leaving customers and employees.

Someone said why in that thread.

For them to dismiss them is an incredibly grave mistake.

It's not so much about the original "I quit" posts (some of which might be excellently written, I concur), it's about the experience-proven fact that the comments thereafter have an almost inevitable tendency to deteriorate rather quickly.

The reason they close "I quit" threads is because they almost always turn into a flame war from one side or another. While yes, ZoS should be concerned with the reason why so many people are leaving, creating a thread about it usually won't give them the desired results.

Besides, I've always seen most "I quit" threads as attention grabbing, self-indulgent crap. If you quit, fine. Do so. But have a little dignity when you do.

So give the people who are trolling it into a flamewar a time out.

Those are likely to be general troublemakers anyway, and a little bit of 'This is what happens to bad little elves/orcs/trolls' example setting could be a good thing.

If you want to suppress any discussion that MIGHT devolve into a flamewar, than by definition of your terms you potentially have to ban all discussion, anyway.

You don't want it to turn into a flamewar? Lock it after the initial post. At least you got your feedback, and others can see from results in upcoming patches whether the devs are paying attention to the things the readers can read.

    .........
Betatest feedback can be pretty important, too.

I'm thinking there are many examples of THAT not being taken entirely seriously by the devs, either.

Or you don't understand the criterion for sending one out (e.g. a lapse in actual ability to play the game for an extended period of time); or it went into a spam folder. But if you're looking for an excuse to write something negative, on the other hand, I suppose, anything will do.

I don't think it was pulled. It was shown a month or so go that mods have the ability to 'sink' threads. Even if you post new comments it doesn't go to the top of list. I don't think they thought it was constructive and and sunk it.

I do got to admit...contacting support to find out why you didn't get your exit survey sure tickles my funny bone.
