Inspiration - to deconstruct or research for best results

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the inspiration you get from researching an item and deconstructing an item?

I noticed that I got some inspiration after I completed some research (got the notice saying research complete and at the same time got a notice saying I had leveled up in that craft) but I don't use any add ons to track how much inspiration is being generated so was just wondering if anyone knew.

I have in the past been using the lowest level item I have with a trait to research and breaking down the higher level item with the same trait. If they are same will probably keep doing this so that I get the benefit of the higher inspiration as soon as possible but if the inspiration from research is more I might need to change the way I'm doing things.

AFAIK, you get the same amount for each research tier regardless of the quality of the item researched. Your best bet with "intricate" items, particularly with the normal/white ones, is to upgrade them to at least green, then deconstruct for maximum skill gain. Green upgrades are fairly easy to come by simply from deconstructing green stuff (especially if you have 3/3 in extraction).

That's a good tip. I had not thought about upgrading "intricate" items to get better XP and since I have hemming coming out of my ears at this point, I might as well use it.

Hell ... I've research almost 180 traits I never new that I was gaining inspiration from doing it.

The only reason I ever noticed it was that I was online when a research timer ended and the inspiration was sufficient to push me to the next level.

Same here, one day the crafting level dinged for the next level while I was just looking at my map. I thought, what the . . .???

Then up popped the "Research Complete" message and it all made sense! Still haven't been able to figure out how much IP from research, but nice to get it anyway.

Ive logged in to skill increases from it.

You don't have to be online.

It's amusing regardless. Unfortunately I'm almost out of traits entirely.

Need one single ww trait for frost staff and a few plate ones. Most of my missing are impen to misc cloth and the medium armor that I ignored.

Me too. I've had that happen a few times, actually, and the first couple of times I couldn't figure out why my craft skill had randomly leveled while I was offline. Then I noticed that it happened when I had completed researching a trait, and that's when I realized that research gives you inspiration (which makes total sense, I just didn't know it worked that way).
