VR4 and dying in 2 seconds....

My main is a VR10 NB, medium, DW/Bow. She has a healthy mix of siphoning, shadow and assassination skills. I don't have one set build as I change up slotted abilities based upon what I am going into.

I never ran into any problems with VR mobs until I hit VR7. And like many people say.... single NPC - "Faceroll" as they put it. Two guys - as long as you're paying attention they were easy to. For some reason that third mob makes fighting VR trash just punishing. I started using mass hysteria and cloaked out a lot... Those two skill are pretty much what got me through all the upper content. Which, btw, won't work as well any m ore due to them making many NPCs CC resistant after the 1st fear or CC in 1.2.3. Thanks ZOS.

I'm at a total loss at this point. I'm not sold it's a broken class... I feel she puts out plenty of damage, but she's just a glass cannon at 5 medium and 2 heavy. It might be a problem with medium armor, even blocking a hit she still loses 20% health. So I really don't know at this point if it's the dw/bow/medium not optimal, or a case of VR mobs hitting a little too hard, or maybe still something broken in the class.

Something I will point out, and make of it what you will. At VR10 she has problems with packs of three in upper VR zones. In Craglorn, she can solo packs of 4-5 VR11s relatively easily. Don't even have to pop a potion. So.... yeah..

So, it's do-able as my NB has completed all zones content. If it's a lag issue, I'm afraid there probably isn't much that can be done about it. Also don't be afraid to try a skill you might have looked at and said "Ahhh... that sht ain't gonna work...." and it turns out to be a total life saver.

Ok, I'm an NB, DW/Bow Build.

Each time I die, which is a lot, consists of the following, getting hit once or twice. then dying in 2 seconds. Looking at my the review which shows my death and some of things which may just be one person, and the last 5 hits.

I'm in NZ, so it appears the latency is a big factor. My latency is around 200-300, which apparently means 100ms equates to a second. The lag is just stupid. If I get stunned I will die before I can do anything (block, shadow cloak) when I attack people they will get stunned and then just dodge my blows when stunned. WTFF?

How can you even play this game when the latency is that bad?

Grab a dress and a stick. Apparently Zos did not test many of the builds. FYI if you look back in Dev interviews all the VR content was meant for 2 to 3 players. With that said lvl up destro and resto in light armor and youll likely be able to solo Vr public dungeons.

OK stop right there, that's your problem. Reroll any other class till they fix stamina and other NB abilities. Otherwise you are in for a very long, tedious and frustrating leveling experience.

Alternatively you can retrain to cloth/resto staff and breeze through or go find a grind (booooring) group in Crag.

    GL!

VR12 dual-wield/bow Nightblade here. And I didn't find my leveling experience frustrating at all. Except for the frustration that grinding is a thing in this game. Because it's really annoying to have an insanely fun zone like Craglorn and only see people who want to run in a circle mindlessly spamming the same buttons.

OP: there's no fix for lag, but if lag isn't the only issue, you may just need to adjust your tactics. Use your invisibility and surprise attack abilities. If you're taking on 3 mobs, there's no reason that any more than 2 of them at a time should be able to hit you. If you're taking on 1 or 2 mobs, there's no reason that either of them should be unstunned for any serious length of time.

You're playing the class as a stealthy melee type. Which is fine. But you need to emphasize the stealthy part of that if you want to survive. Going in and out of invisibility doesn't just drop you out of combat for a moment, it also gives you a huge boost to armor and resistance for the next few seconds when you pop out of it. It's our number one survival tool, so don't be stingy with it.

Edit: Also, I can't help but think that all the regular "Melee is broken, use a staff," trolls haven't played the new patch. When I go with groups as dual-wield, I'm the one cutting through the boss like hot butter.

    vr5 NB here
    DW+Bow
    Living in Australia

In pve - had no problem 1-50 using bow + DW + medium armour
Vet content - done none coz im crag grinding but im being a siphon tank (full heavy with self healing)
In pvp - all i do is ganking and dueling - high crit and burst build - pretty glass cannon like (DW + Bow + full med armour) - whether im dueling or ganking, i can kill any level any class (not all the time but consistenly enough for vr5)

Would assume vet content wouldnt be too hard with NB siphon tank or DW/Bow as long as you know which skills to use and how to play properly.
Banned for Naming and Shaming exploiters. Great ideology ZOS.

I stopped playing my NB @ VR5 because 2 to 3 mobs meant almost certain death just about all the time! Got sick of wasting my gold on soul gems and overly priced repairs! >.< And the constant daily irritation just made it no fun at all so I stopped. Now I'm rolling a Templar and liking it a lot better! Much more survivability now and I like that a lot! >:)

More so, if you're not EU or NA, why the F are you playing this game when you know you'l never have a decent connection response?

I get it if your a fan, but seriously, be patient for a server near your own country. Don't come complaining about it in the forums.

If they made this game in AUS, and was only available for AUS and EU, I would never have bought the game. Common sense would have told me I would have had a really bad time playing in the 300-500ms ping range.

Every single post about NB not being broken mentions workarounds. That's a sad testament to the fact that NB is not working properly. No single combination of skills gets one out of every tricky situation, and a heavy reliance on potions points to poor balance of ROI of skill costs.

Anyone who gets to veteran ranks as a NB is adept enough at working around the flaws and shortcomings within the class, but that doesn't mean the flaws and shortcomings aren't there. And latency, which is not a game issue but a connectivity issue, just amplifies some of those flaws.

I also believe, though this may be a minority viewpoint, that one shouldn't have to be a vampire or werewolf to succeed as a NB. It's great that there are skills in those trees that aid whatever class one plays, but classes should work without the extras, not because of them.

Level up the resto staff or destro staff and throw on some light armor. Best advice anyone can give you for doing VR content as a NB.

Try a tunneling service (I was using BattlePing), that gave me 150ms playing from Australia which is as good as it gets pretty much.

    I call BS on this.

VR9 that has used 2-handed/ medium/heavy 5/2 since before VR1. However, I save stamina for block/dodge/interrupt, using mostly the siphoning tree (soul siphon, power extraction, soul tether). Use Mass Hysteria/Volcanic Rune/ Maleficent Wreath for CC.

Power Extraction is weird in that the more mobs you have the better it works.

Crouch damage is very important for me, take out first mob in a couple of secs, finishing with impale.

And I am in an active guild with friends though and that helps a lot.

However, I find this build unexciting in public+/group dungeons activities, and use destro staff.

Edit: One of the most important tactics that I have learned is to roll "through" bigger single mobs and beat on 'em from behind.

I've found that the Vr7-10 zones ramp up REALLY fast. I finished Cadwell's Gold last night and I'm taking 700-800 damage per auto attack from the final quest boss.

As a VR12 nightblade in pretty much my final gear set, I basically had to chain stealth through all the mobs to get to the quest objectives avoiding everything I could. If I happened to get caught, there is just too much damage being dealt to over come it (this is WITH a resto staff). I dont know what they did but the VR11-12 mobs in Craglorn do not hit nearly as hard as the VR9-10 zone.

I'm talking solely about PvP, pve is not a problem. On vr12s I will do such little DMG on a vr 12 using ambush, concealed weapon from stealth - nb skills are broken for me. They will just turn around and dragon blood, talons, sorcs i have better chance although crystal shards will hit me for 700. Nbs have no high damage option in melee. Most are vr12 so theres no other choice apart from a tedious grind to get to vr 12. Perhaps craglorn anomalies should remain

The scaling is off and inconsistent but everyone who hit VR content knew this after the first week. It's a math thing.

Most of the "look at me, VR12 and I didn't have a problem leveling my nb, l2p you noobs" types don't have Cadwell's Gold. That or they were carried in groups.

What I hate the most about death by lag is getting the death recap. It feels like it's just rubbing it in. I've only just hit VR as a Nightblade dual-wield and 90% of my deaths so far are due to lag (in Australia). Still, I love the game and try to work around it. Mostly by sneaking around large groups where possible or waiting for other players to come by when when it's not.

The amount of skill in this game is not high. In open melee its mitigation and dps, nbs have neither. In stealth we get the benefit of inc detection (if using. Ma) but dmg from stealth is bollocks.

I'm a 2h/1h+sh, heavy armor DK at VR4. Finally logged on after the all night patch, logged into this character and ran a couple Coldharbor solo dungeons. So far so good. Then I went back to my Greenshade questing and died to two imps.

Sighed, and went back to levelling my sorcerer.

Yeah, maybe you forgot the statement stating latency wouldn't be a problem in this game because of how it was build and designed, by the people that make it.

Rolling Bow/Resto and Bow/Destructo NB with cloth and some med pieces, which works fine. The bow is pretty good, especially Lethal Arrow and Poison Arrow. Scorched Earth is useless. Magnum Shot is a reasonable stun, although it doesn't respond quite fast. The fourth active (forgot the name) is only viable for group PvE with a lot of adds (it does pretty good dps if you hit a lot of npc's).

Aside from that, the survivability ain't that good, I was lucky I wanted to use the resto staff as a second weapon and it turned out to be a good choice.
Also, I like to use some craftable sets to improve survivability. The song of lamae set is pretty good for that one and there's more of them that give you a dmg shield when dropping into low health.

Destructo staff... well, Pulsar is OP for any class and it added well into my woodworking skills.

That, the siphoning tree, magelight for crits and coming out of Cloak bonuses.

Also, the buff for path of darkness was decent, although probably most useful during leveling (PvE).
