So , I actually wanted to play ESO for a little while, see if it improved since last I played, and what happens, a 20+gb update! What exactly did they change? EVERYTHING?!
yeah, patch size is a good question, because if you read here you will find that not everyone says it is 4.8GB+ 40MB+ 4.8GB, and we are left to speculate.
funny story - let me tell you my experience with this patch. i am on a wireless broadband plan in regional australia ,i get good speeds, but only 8GB/month (15 if i spend and extra $50AU/month). plenty for playing the game but tough for large downloads.
not knowing the size of the patch, i see a 4.8GB file and think, well if thats all it is i am fine, continue with the patch, then it starts to download another 4.8GB, well that screws me, so i think, well, i will use my backup plan (phone data 4GB) and finish the update, but to do this i need to pause the download. i do so, pause, close launcher, check files are still there, good!, switch to other modem, restart launcher, back to the FIRST 4.8GB file downloading.. hmm, check the file sizes in the patch directory, not changing, so it is downloading the SAME data, and then i realize i cannot do it without spending cash.
next i went to accounts and then over to account sub and clicked on cancel, and then checked the net for a new mmo. this, my final comment here is just a little feedback for zenimax. maybe i will come back in 6 months or so when the game is stable and patching is regular and maintenance one a week or none at all.
there is no reason for large patches the size of entire games, it just smacks of poor programming and a lack of will to streamline processes for the user rather than the provider, this means thing will probably not get better any time soon.
I tend to delete the manifest file when I get a 110% download. Then repair the patch. And it usually fixes the issue. It takes me days to download large patches on my 3.0mb DSL connection.
