Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – April 6

Why are 0g junk weapons and armor clogging up backpacks and other containers?

Oh. I thought they'd be lying on tables, on the ground or somewhere. This will screw autolooters so badly.

edit: No wait, autolooters would still pick them up, right? Anyhow, more micromanagement for everyone!

This will be fun. More trips back to merchants/crafting stations/bank to get rid of this stuff.

Idk man idk it's like getting the greatest cake you ever had for your birthday then finding out some baked chopped up bugs into the whole thing lol

This is what the whole game is like for me. I mean I love the game...in theory...but then there's all this.

They have add ons for junk sorting. I had considered using one, and now I think I will.

I learned early in the game that auto loot is the enemy of my bag space.

Hmmm, I think you missed the point. This stuff is WORTHLESS. As in zero gold value. And virtually NO chance for mats or exp on DC.

    It needs to be destroyed.

But, the griefers will be happy to leave it in the containers for the next guy.

Dunno how they can do that, considering the containers they appear in are instanced to each player.

Aren't the containers instanced? So basically you are griefing yourself?

While harvesting nodes like ore or Alchemy reagents are shared/lootable by everyone, containers are UNIQUELY lootable to each player. So say you open the Dresser in front of you and loot something. That same dresser is still lootable to anyone else who goes to loot it.

(Sadly I HAVE picked Alchemy Reagents before with only the worms left inside. *shakes head and sighs*)

It's all your fault. People like you love the game so much that ZOS knows they can put in 'features' like this knowing that you'll still say you love the game. ;)

Then again, I wonder if a container will re-spawn new loot if you don't loot the junk from it. Something I need to test. :)

Containers are instanced. Craft exp isn't great, but it isn't terrible either. Mat extraction is pretty low, but not zero. When I was testing them, they were also leveled to your character regardless of what zone you looted them from. Don't know if this is still the case, but that gives them some usefulness as placeholder gear.

Could be these items are just replacing some of the millions of lockpicks that used to be given out instead. We will have to wait and see what the staff say when they have more info but for now I would say don't worry about it...at least until we know for sure its something worth moaning about.

Lock picks take up pretty much zero pack space. Each one of these pieces of junk takes a full slot.

Thanks Zenimax, you made ESO so well, I went back to Skyrim; glad I got out before I really started to hate it.

    Ya.
    That's real smart.
Use an add-on to delete items from your pack.

Like that sort of add-on has never failed in the past.

That sounds like it might be a bug related to a mechanic that was added. The patch notes said that the armor and weapons that you see lying around in the world could now be picked up, but they would be worthless (monetarily) but could be used as gear in a pinch. It said nothing about adding these items to the loot tables, though, as far as being in boxes and bags. I'd report that. That seems off.
You're correct in that assumption, @Bookwyrm. Just posted a clarification in the patch notes, but the zero value for armor and weapons that you find also apply to anything you find in an interactable object, such as drawers or cabinets.

That's what i thought. This is so stupid. There were already enough people complaining about inventory issues. This just kills auto loot and wastes everyone's time.

Loot Nerfing has turned the game to crap. This MMO will go down in history for nerfing loot more times than improving the game.

I can't for the life of me figure out why you guys would ever make this change. I'm not home from work yet to try this out, but I'm really worried this will increase the nuisance factor of inventory management in a game whose awful inventory management issues are already a running gag--as well as increase the rarity of items that are already too rare by a tremendous margin.

It's the new patch and part of the immersion element since before the open-world weapons/armor could not be picked up which is not usual in ES games. I imagine they added this to adhere to the franchise. I don't mind it so much.

I wouldn't have minded it if it was implemented at launch, not now when i'm a master crafter and can't even sell this junk.
