Why are 0g junk weapons and armor clogging up backpacks and other containers?

Why are there now junk weapons and armor pieces appearing inside lootable backpacks and furniture like dressers and cabinets? I much prefer the pre-patch drops of food, recipes and crafting materials instead of this useless garbage. Yes, the other stuff still drop, just not as frequently now because of the junk weapons and armor that have been added to the loot tables.

OMG really? I know they made all the tutorial stuff 0g. Not really sure why, seems like a odd move, but I hope this doesn't mean we are going to see 'junk' all over the place now. *sigh*

One guy got a purple provisioning recipe so they felt the drop rate was too high and padded the loot tables with junk.

They are doing that because people complained about immersion and that in every other elder scrolls franchise game you could pick crap you didn't want or need up and store it in your house in a pentagon with your wive's dead heads next to it.

The developers caved to this and added "world lootable" gear that you can pick up and use, interact with if you will.

What you are reporting is that not only is the swag on the ground and around to use, it also has infected the general loot drop table.

    Can this be confirmed?

•Weapons and armor found in the world can now be picked up and equipped.
•These items are low quality, but can be used if needed.
•These items sell for 0 gold.
•These items can be upgraded through crafting.
•These items can be deconstructed, but yield very low inspiration and rarely yield usable resources.

Oh. I thought they'd be lying on tables, on the ground or somewhere. This will screw autolooters so badly.

edit: No wait, autolooters would still pick them up, right? Anyhow, more micromanagement for everyone!

That sounds like it might be a bug related to a mechanic that was added. The patch notes said that the armor and weapons that you see lying around in the world could now be picked up, but they would be worthless (monetarily) but could be used as gear in a pinch. It said nothing about adding these items to the loot tables, though, as far as being in boxes and bags. I'd report that. That seems off.

It does make a good point. make sure it is actually coming from the boxes and bags and stuff. i just sort of spam pick up as I walk around, so while I might think it came out of the box it might have come from the rack right next to it.

And with perfect consistency, ZOS broke the game more than helped it.

That's what i thought. This is so stupid. There were already enough people complaining about inventory issues. This just kills auto loot and wastes everyone's time.

It's the new patch and part of the immersion element since before the open-world weapons/armor could not be picked up which is not usual in ES games. I imagine they added this to adhere to the franchise. I don't mind it so much.

You mean the bots that are selling motifs for 20k a pop, but 9 gold a sword would change the game too much?

Well, in other Elder Scrolls games, there wasn't much of an in-game economy to worry about, since there was only one player. All this stuff was already lying around, and added to the immersion (giving the appearance of NPCs actually inhabiting the game world). People complained that it couldn't be picked up, as in other Elder Scrolls games, but if you suddenly fill the world with millions of items worth 1 gold a piece, the value of a gold piece is likely to drop...etc. etc. It's a balancing act.

I believe that was meant to be the intention. Two things I noticed while testing, the items could also show up in regular containers as well, and you could also find enchanted green gear as early as the Wailing Prison break, albeit rarely.

I believe the former is in fact a bug. Though I don't see it as much different than finding lock picks and junk mats in containers if you're auto looting. I hope the latter remains as a nice surprise bonus for picking up items.

I never said their decisions made sense. Maybe they're not worried about bots. Maybe they expect the economy to crash as real players drop everything and rush to collect hundreds of old swords. But you know, even little numbers add up when thousands of people are involved.

Yes, tons of 0g gear is dropping in containers. They are also out in the game world. This just made collecting provisioning materials and recipes even more tedious.

Here's an off the wall observation. The time management issues that players have had with the current inventory system has been so effective in slowing down the progress of the typical player that ZOS devs are enhancing inventory management difficulty by clogging up inventory with white/grey junk. Btw, even deconstructing those 0g items will yield less mats.

So my guess, working as intended. ;)

Depends on how often you found that 9 gold sword. If it was often enough It is possible a bot would make more money faster looting a house and resetting it. Can you still do that?

Now eventually you have the 20k motif and the 20k you got from selling 2,222 swords =P

Confirmed. I opened a number of Backpacks, Dressers, Wardrobes, etc. I would estimate the odds of getting a junk weapon/armor are about 33%.

This, of course, reduces the chance of getting a Recipe/Motif/Mats by the same amount.

    What fun.

Weither looting from containers is a bug or not I still have to wonder how the *** did anyone think this was a good idea omg I get drops from chests and killing things why on earth would i ever have the need to use garbage to wear instead of just wearing the loot I get normally as if greens are hard to come by even whites for that matter, so now you added completely worthless items into the game just to clog up space I mean good job as far as everything else ZOS but when I saw this I was like "wtf" did some random when a contest that let them decide on one of the next ideas that get added and they had a brain fart? Idk man idk it's like getting the greatest cake you ever had for your birthday then finding out some baked chopped up bugs into the whole thing lol

What bots are selling Motifs for in game gold? Bots were farming nodes and vendering mats to make gold for the gold selling sites. 9g is more than what a refined bar of iron sells for.

Yeah, I have noticed that a lot my self. Really pi$$es me off when I kill a boss and it drops that worthless crap or nothing at all. >.< So very anticlimactic and Zenimax thinks thats great stuff and we are gunna love all that crap. NOT! People want good fun stuff thats actually beneficial to the player! Its awesome to get great gear and to be rewarded for that hard to kill boss that you died to several times before you was finally able to kill it. But nope, thats not the case in almost all situations now. Good job on your effort to kill this boss but here some worthless crap that you dont want or need. Talk about a complete insult and a joy-kill to the max!!! >.< I really loved the drop rate of loot when the game first came out but now they have gimped the hell out of it so much so thats its broken in my opinion. Nerf, nerf, nerf, nerf, nerf......poor Johnny boy has a sad face now.
