Should the Original Poster of a thread reserve the right to remove unwanted replies?

pedrosmule
Should you, as the original poster to the thread, be able to reserve the right to remove unwanted or trolling type replies (or any reply for that matter), with the exception of green names, to better the content of the posts you make? I mean there are a lot of times you make a post and you get people going off on a tangent about something barely inclusive to the current topic being discussed making the post irrelevant.

I can't believe this is a serious question. Of course not.

Btw, options 2 and 3 are basically the same. Or am I missing something?

People would abuse this system and delete anything not within their viewpoint. Only staff should be able to delete posts.

Silencing dissenting opinions is a step in the wrong direction. If a mod deems a post is inflammatory then they will handle it.

If you don't want people posting, post on a closed blog. The amount of pruning and cherry picking posts from BOTH sides (Fanbois and Haters) would be gross. The realists wouldn't be able to gauge anything.

Someone disagreeing with your opinion would be considered "trolling" to you, so you remove the post?

There seems to be a misunderstanding of how internet forums work. They will go off topic, that's normal. If you want something to stay a focused discussion there are other formats you should pursue. Good luck.

Wait you want to be given administrative rights, just because you are able to post a new shiny topic. Your sanity is at the edge of where logic usually has a couple of snacks in the backpack. Bloody far out. Only thing that this caters to is pure anarchy.

    Ha! No.

This is a forum, where people can state their opinions, even if they differ from your own. If we allowed this, then all we'd have is threads where the only opinion that's allowed is the OP's opinion. I don't even think staff should be allowed to completely delete posts, unless they are breaking the rules, at which point, the current procedure of just editing it and explaining why it was edited seems to work fine.

Im torn on the subject. On the one hand, you'll get some replies that are so far off topic that they're hanging out with Pluto and really should be removed from the thread.

On the other, it IS a public forum and you take the risk of both favorable and opposing replies and people should be able to say what they want (within reason and forum guidelines) without penalty for simply disagreeing.

I think Id really leave it up to the community managers to monitor posts, I see too much potential to make the community even more toxic otherwise.

No. I don't trust you or anyone not in green to arbitrarily censor content. Censorship occurs too much as it is in these forums without adding player bias.

Option 4: Sure if that was limited to the OP having to delete the whole thread.

Only ppl who should be able to cherry-pick which posts are valid for a thread are mods. If you don't like the answers you are getting back from a poll thread:

    1) Make a better more inclusive poll.

    or

    2) Don't make it in the first place.

The most effective way to kill debate and the free flow of ideas and response would be to allow the OP to remove "unwanted" feedback.

If something is too far out of line I'm sure a moderator will jump in. Leave it at that.

Also, OP, I am going to chime in and mention here that my right to disagree with you and make it crystal clear that I disagree with you absolutely trumps your feels regarding how your thread is managed.

Dont say something in public and then expect the public to kowtow to your will. Youre not the boss of me, in other words.

Your Poll is not going in the direction you wanted? (again?)

You see your carefully crafted spin doctoring taken apart by reasonable, irrefutable arguments? (repeatedly?)

No-one is agreeing with you, and all you get is a lot of LOLs worth the next badge? (you've earned that star the hard way, for sure!)

Fear not, for the next poll is here! If this goes well, you can be your own forum moderator soon! No more disagreeing with your precious, opinionated opinion! Just censor the views that can't be valid, because they're not your own!

(Sorry, but I'm under the impression that this poll was posted under the OP's secondary account. Why else would a Soul Shriven ask for a feature like this?)
