Basically, since this maintenance looks like it will be 10+ hours instead of the 4 it was supposed to be, should ZOS give everyone game time to replace it?
They probably will, but I really wish they wouldn't. It always makes people feel like their whining accomplished something. So the next time servers are down a minute longer than anticipated, the forums get even more inundated with ridiculous polls like this.
Are you new to the MMO scene? This kind of thing is a norm for major patch updates. Seems to me that they learned that releasing a patch and not properly doing maintenance at the same time can cause a ton of issues. I for one am glad they are doing this, at least this way if something new is majorly broke we can blame them for not finding it after hours and hours of maintenance.
No. This is why you're paying them. To fix and add stuff. There's nowhere that says that maintenance cant or wont run over, and this is part of the mmo territory.

Will they, maybe
Should they, Situational 24h downtime is the point i would in that position
Do they have to, nope
in that case no, people don't truly understand what it takes to keep this game running. That's why this is part of all MMO's TOS. If every person who bought the game complained about downtime and demanded free play time. They would sink into free to play, because that is basically what they are doing, letting you play for free, even though they need that money to actually patch things during down time. The moment this game goes free to play, is the day you see these content patches get smaller, mostly cosmetic, and only a few patches a year, no thanks they can take a dollar from me because i would prefer this game succeed, and continue to get better, if thats not cool with you, stop subbing and wait a couple of years to come back....wait no....don't come back, will still probably have down time, they ALWAYS will have down time
lol good luck with that,i was unable to log in after 1.2 patch like many of us and when i asked for my three days of down time reimbursed i all but got laughed at..
To be clear, I want to know if you think they should.
Not what their policies state and not what other games have done.
I personally think the maintenance time for the NA server should be more in line with NA times. If this maintenance had started around 3 am instead of 8, it probably would be done by now.
However, I do think that if you pay for a service that gets interrupted unexpectedly for a long time, the company should reimburse you. I've successfully done this with my phone/internet company and others, irregardless of what their normal terms state.
The question here is, what time frame is considered "long" for this service?
In my opinion, "long" for this service is 24+ hours.
even if they were 24 hours late, that's what, 1/30th of $15, so like 50 cents. OMG that would be so totally awesome, 50 cents!
Well, depends on how many active subs do you think they have at the moment. If it is lets say 100.000, it is a lot of money. If it is like it seems, more or less 5.000, is not that much. Anyway, it would be bad for ZOS I suppose.
Absolutely the should. In fact, they already have. They stuck it in between the cushions of your couch. Dig around; you'll find much more than the value of the play time you've lost.

I'm sure it's in the terms & conditions of game being down for how ever long the maintenance will take. Wouldn't you rather it be done right the first time around instead of having the game being taken back down the same day/night because they found something that can't wait until Thursday? No they shouldn't reimburse us for anything. We know this stuff happens at least once every 2-3 weeks with a major patch. World of Warcraft wouldn't reimburse time lost so why should Elder Scrolls Online.
