Is PvP really a priority in ESO?

Maybe enable friendly fire. Maybe that would end it.

griefers would make that impossible I'm afraid

It seemed like PvP was going to be a focus for this game and somehow that is no longer the case.

This is my concern. From the moment this game was announced, all Matt Firor ever talked about was Cyrodiil this and Cyrodiil that. He even stated he would never have lead the development of the game if he couldn't have 3-faction RvR like DAoC.

ZOS also talked extensively about the Imperial City (ESO version of Darkness Falls) and the emperorship and how important it is to have faction camaraderie and unity to achieve all these rewards. ZOS talked a lot about why they had three factions and why having faction identity was so important, and that was for AvA.

But overtime it seems that message has been muddled. Whether ZOS was trying to be more accommodating to those only interested in questing, trying to appease raiders by implementing Trials into the game, or appealing to TES fans by adding in a first person view, ESO has been going through a serious identity crisis.

The truth of the matter is you cannot have your cake and eat it too. ESO cannot be everything, and if it tries, it will fail like so many MMORPGs before it. The only way to have a successful MMO, especially in the industry today, is to specialize. You need to be able to stand out and appeal to a unique market.

Cyrodiil was that opportunity, because with Camelot Unchained still far from release, this is the closest thing to a true DAoC successor. ZOS could have appealed to a player base and to many PvPers who never felt that most MMOs appealed to them.

If their current direction persists with little attention to AvA, I feel ESO may fall into obscurity and disappointment like so many before it. I'd like this game to be different because I have seen how amazing AvA can be in beta. We can get to that point again, but ZOS needs to show they care and that they are willing to fix the system.

There could be ways of discouraging friendly fire, such as penalties and punishments. Much like old school MMOs or hardcore PvP sandbox MMOs, if you attack members of your alliance too much, you become red to the entire alliance. You could also suffer massive AP loss if you continuously attack members of your own alliance.

I do not believe ESO will fall into obscurity because it will always have a strong cult following, though PvP needs some major attention and very soon. I figured we would see more after the first campaigns ended. I felt this first 3 months was like a testing period so they can gather numbers, etc etc, but the numbers should be gathered. I do not understand the logic of not putting in some changes right as the campaigns end before we start another season. Just makes NO sense.

Going F2P will be falling into obscurity, from my perspective. If AvA is not addressed, I doubt ZOS will have much of a fan base on PC, and consoles will only provide short term revenues, as most are unlikely to be recurring subscribers. F2P is almost guaranteed if they do not fix the underlining issues with this game.

Well according to Brian Wheeler the current game doesn't have the infrastructure to just outright remove campaigns without many losing their end of campaign rewards. I personally believe many in the community would forgive them for the loss of campaign rewards as long as we have quality PvP again. Doing nothing for another month or so is not wise, in my opinion.

Four months later and it still feels like this. Agree or disagree with the decision to remove forward camps, it feels like it was decided very flippantly and with no time for the community to weigh in on it.

No word whether this will be a temporary change or camps will be back when they figure out how to only allow rezzes within the camp radius.

Does ZOS care at all about PvP?

they didn't give notice because if they did, everyone would've emptied their AP buying stacks and stacks of them to save up

Removing the forward camps is listening to the community.
It has been one of the recuring requests since launch, alongside fixing werewolves, stamina builds and removing the target cap.
Two of these being addressed, and the caps being considered for removal.

This is an objectively good change and a popular one as well. We'll see how it plays out but this patch is definitely the most interesting change we've had in pvp since months.

By the time they get around to fixing pvp the answer to the problem will already have arrived in the form of Camelot Unchained. That's about a year or more out though but that is how slow they are.

Although I don't trust jacobs, Matt Firor has proven that he wasn't the brains behind Daoc with how poorly they've balanced this game. dks now have god mode vs ranged attack. As if they weren't already the easiest class to win with in pvp. laughable.
