Erm Zenimax why do you have an American time for EU maintenance?

10:00pm EDT for the European megaserver

What time is this European time? What time is this GMT?

People are too lazy to convert the time, like myself. I also refuse to be treated like a second class customer when you give us incorrect time formats.

Thanks.

They have an American time because the company is in America. Your server is in America.

We use both, also BST. We use GMT in the winter

Your loss, the time format they use is perfectly correct and easily translated.

Usually of course they do quote GMT as well .. but then I suppose you'd be self-admittedly too lazy to convert that into your local time either so you will never be happy.

In the UK we're not on GMT at the moment and I don't know if anyone currently is due to it being summer .. I guess somewhere in Scandinavia they also use GMT some time in the year, maybe still now, I don't know.

Funny thing is: converting EDT for CET or BST takes less time than writing a new post on this forum and could even teach you something.

By the time you wrote this thread you could have easily searched it like most people would have. Stop looking for things to whine about like a spoilt child. Second class customer just because they forgot to add EU time on the announcement this once.

Nope, we use CET, which is one hour Ahead. The Armed Forces sometimes operate on 'zulu' time, which Equals GMT, but that's the only Application of GMT I know of in Scandinavia.

Best is GMT, that's a global concept .. CET, BST, CEST etc. are all local and converting one to local to another is a damned sight harder than converting from a universal.

In fact, all times in multinational contexts should be in UST anyway. :p

Least of our problems. They were in a a hurry getting this message up. Let it go.

They did have to be reminded at first that their European customers use different times, but they've been pretty consistent with providing them ever since.

GMT is a global way of telling time. Also, people don't ALWAYS play on the server of the region, so who cares? Though it IS weird they posted US timezones for the time in English, but the other languages give CET at least.

I'd be more worried that in French the message says the maintenance is Thursday June 24 instead of Tuesday.

EDIT: they fixed it after I sent them a message on twitter

Yeah because the community and website team are also doing the games development.

There's no excuse for this lol. It's a bit unprofessional. They were't in a "hurry" considering the maintenance is hours and hours from now.

I was kinda hoping they were suddenly reminded the official forum exists after we discovered they tentatively informed Reddit 15 hours earlier. :P Still, a one-time slip is not a problem.

They don't need an excuse because they did nothing wrong. They expressed the time in an easily recognizable and understandable, widely used format. Sure, most people will have to convert that to their local time, but the same would hold true if they expressed it in any other time zone, because all time zones cover the same amount of our sphere. Luckily, the math required to perform this operation is insanely trivial, as it involves adding 2-digit numbers. If you are unable to do this, I'm sad to inform you, you have bigger problems than anticipating this patch.

It's the year 2014, paying a sub, unprofessionalism, or any other not yet mentioned reason, you should be ashamed of yourself not grasping the concept of international timezones.

But here's a fun concept for you, just because you are not being treated like a second class customer, you are behaving like one. I apologize for ZOS not giving you your milk and cookies before you head to bed.

BST = British Summer Time (This is when there's an hour difference between UTC)
UTC = Coordinated Universal Time (this is where all the clocks set themselves upon)
GMT = Greenwich Mean Time (UTC's predecessor, yet still used)
    ZULU = UTC
CET/CST = Central European Time/and summer equivalent (ZOS gives these times on the French and German announcements, because those countries are in that timezone)
EST/EDT = Eastern Standard Time/and summer equivalent (this is where all servers are located currently)

Once again, I understand your right, to deserve every possible thinkable service for a measly 15 USD a month. Yet, I can see why you insist of being "too lazy" due to the fact that the French announcement thought about stating both times to include the French-Canadian population, yet everyone forgot about the Brits....

However, for future reference, if you just type the following string in your favorite web search, you could've saved everyone the hassle, as you tried, yet failed to make your point.

Search string: "10pm EDT in BST"

what are you doing up around 3am anyways during a work-week? Never mind, I don't want to open THAT can of worms...

Not just the Brits. Nearly everyone in Europe who doesn't speak French or German as their first language. That's... most of Europe, actually.

Well, it has not always been doing server times in American timezones. Been one of the good things ZOS has done. In comparison SWTOR was always slated for having downtimes at inconvenient hours for EU users. Even though they were based in Ireland.

Anyway, that is why a few heads are getting scratched. And the time zone has not even been cleared up either.

Ah, but then you would have to have a laptop to play in bed too.
