EU Server

I don't want to moan because I really am enjoying a lot of things about the game but for the love of christ can you (Zeni) please pull your fingers out and move this damned server to Europe. I'm on 150 Meg broadband and am consistently up around 250 ms latency most nights. I'm sorry if this sounds petty but I'm just tired of taking damage from stuff when I'm clearly not standing in the crap.

What is the hold-up? Do you need to build a new super-cargo ship to get the server over or something?

Putting the console release on hold is the delay. We were to get our server (that we were mislead into believing would come with live release) with the launch of the console version.

As it is another item that has been failed to be communicated about, probably don't hold your breath. The dust of ages will have settled before we get it.

An announcement said the schedule for the server move is now "looking at some time after summer". How long after summer, or indeed which summer, they didn't say, but at least it's still on their agenda. I'm truly hoping they will retain enough EU subscribers over the next couple of months and not just give up on us.

A less laggy experience would make the game immensely more enjoyable for me, not just in PvP but in VR PvE as well. Not much room for bad timing or failed ability activations in fights with supercharged mobs.

same got a 60/60mb fiber and lagging attackes cant wait for the server to get here to EU.

I am a server admin on my job and cant se why it take so long to sync a new server with the old one in the US?

    I feel your pain.

The problem with the latency is that it really destroys the combat experience, both in PvE & PvP. One of Zeni's stated goals was to provide a first class combat experience but this is ruined so often by the knowledge that network latency was a major contributor to a death rather than player skill (or lack thereof). The difficulty is that it's not simply enough to react quickly to enemy (player or npc) attacks, I actually have to preempt myself by 250 ms which as most people will probably realise is a bloody hard thing to do unless you have Jedi foresight. The effect is just compounded in PvP where both players are similarly handicapped leaving a completely disjointed experience (I guess this is mitigated somewhat by the fact that 1v1 PvP encounters seem quite rare in Cyrodiil).

I pretty much always got a solid 20 ms playing WoW. 250 might not seem like a lot but Zeni need to realise it is totally destroying the combat experience.

I seriously don't think anyone here complaining about 1/4 of second lag really knows what you are talking about we being from Australia in all my MMOs I've had to live with around 200ms constantly. 400/500 Ill admit is rough but 250 is playable.

It's not one server. It's an entire infrastructure. Megaserver is a concept, it does not mean one physical box.

Thing is, we were promised an EU server located in the EU, then they backtracked after they got their pre orders, now they are losing customers BECAUSE of no actual EU server. Im PRETTY sure you would be upset if you were promised an Oceanic server, bought the 100 + dollar collectors edition, and then they said "oh , sorry, no oceanic server".

Also, I cant help but notice the official post for the EU server issues is gone. Hmmmm, I wonder why?

    Greetings folks,

We are working on migrating the EU megaserver to its final home in a European datacenter. This move should be made sometime during the summer, and we’ll let you know as soon as there’s more info to share. You can find more information about this here: The Road Ahead – June 4th .

    Thanks!

It's a poor response to something that was promised from the start, how about a deadline or project plan ( doesn't sound like there is any ).

With respect, that is just a little more than copy and paste of what is written in the linked article or page. There is no 'more' information.

It would be nice to get some more information regarding the migration of the EU mega server to the EU.

As I understand it the hardware and the software for the mega server, though inextricably related, are different things. The mega server hardware could well be built in place and ready to go long before the software is 'ported' (cannot think of a better way to put that just now) to it. After such a 'port' there will, no doubt, need to be lots of testing before an EU based EU megaserver went 'live' for the gamers. Continous testing or monitoring will also be needed after going 'live' and it is likely that there will be a plethora of problems related to the switch over.

Thing is, no noose is good noose! Except it isn't. No news to the gamers will probably have some envisioning bad news or making up there own news.

To be fair, the forum mods and devs posting cannot win. If they give out provisional news about the EU server migration, then the risk of a backlash when the provisional news is found to be incorrect is great. The possibility of praise when unexpected good and correct news is released is much lower. It's a kind of 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' affair.

This copy and paste response does no one any favors though. It could make the poster look uncaring or lazy (I mean no offence), could make the devs look untrustworthy and will probably displease many of the gamers that enjoy the game so much they continue to pay subs.

    Edit: Minor tidy up.
