Patch 1.1.5 notes (Known Issues)

I'm curious about the following...
General
  • Known Issue: You may occasionally see an in-game loading screen appear when you have not zoned. This can happen when the client gets overloaded.

I've had this issue a few times. Is there any information on how the client gets overloaded? I've done some basic profiling on my card (GTX 580, all setting on High/Ultra) when running ESO, and at times the GPU usage would drop from 90+% to 3-4%; Card RAM usage maxed at ~45% usage; But during the time I was doing the profiling it never had a load screen. The GPU bus usage also never went over 30%, and my CPU/RAM usage was pretty pitiful.

The only thing I can possibly think of would be network utilization, but my graphs from that have been pretty steady all of the time; 1GbE local LAN to Cable, and no strange spikes on number of connections/speed. (1)

Thanks,
-M

(1) - Okay, I am just using the normal Windows resource monitor, which does suck, for watching the network utilization... but there hasn't been anything crazy there.

They probably meant server, not client.

I had this happen before and it looks like the server moves you to another instance (phase) of the zone, potentially even to another (spill over) server. I know ZOS has posted before that they have redundant copies of the "mega" server that are normally idle but can kick in when the main server is overloaded.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking as well... But was just wanted clarification on the "client" part; and if it is the actual client, if they've got any more info.

If it is a network thing, I can probably setup some QoS rules to give the ESO packets higher priority (I mean, if I have ESO running, it's pretty much the only thing that is using net resources most the time). Or if it's running into a socket/open file limit at times, etc... etc...

Meh... I need to learn to turn off this side of my brain sometimes.

OVERLOAD: When your keeps walls get repaired and has to reload. When you capture a keep and the upgrades have to be removed.

This happens but isn't a big deal or long delay unless you are on a underpowered system no doubt.
    Indeed it is so...

Has happened once when I transitioned into a keep... for about half-second; Just long enough I registered the screen pop up. Normally it happens when just traveling through Cyro. I think the longest I've had one pop up was just over a second.

As you say, not a big deal / long delay (except the couple times it's happened when taking keeps). It's mostly my own curiosity on the root cause.
