Should AOEs be as dominant as they are?

    coordinated groups doing coordinated things

    Nerf coordination

    Eso coordination: make a very very small circle formation with 30 ppl, shrink the circle until your e-pens are in your buddy's e-as*, then move forward, spamm aoes, damage is so high, that no other single target skill can do. (i mean really... hitting with 600+ dmg 6 ppl per hit.) Say FORWARD in chat/voice com.
    And then go and spam spam spam spam spam spam the LOLAOE crap, then its over. Thats coordination for you, then you are a ... dunno. animals have better coordination... We cant even call it coordination at all.

    AoE spam will exist no matter how much you nerf them, only solution is to add a better type of pvp like Arena/WZ

    Not to mention AOE spamming is a lot more efficient and effective than single target killing, especially when you are wiping 50+ players in a matter of seconds.

    Well, any decent group of players, not to mention a 50+ one could take care of that AOE spammer in less than 1 sec.

    AOE is too effective for the limited skill it takes to use. Smaller groups should be able to take on larger groups through skilful coordination, focusing targets, attacking by surprise etc.

    Aoe shouldn't be some crutch for high level/geared-out players to take out zergs. That is cheese, not skill.

    AoE has ruined games? I oppose. It kept DAoC alive for a long time.

    AOE did not keep DAoC alive for a long time lol ... AOE was not used as much in Open Field RVR..In the later stages of the game it was not used at all by the ALBS in open field .It was best for PLing lol ..... DAoC was all about the /assist max dps ...

    currently, AoE is the only way to mindlessly assist on a target. Maybe tactics will evolve where single target assisting will be more common but that requires more coordination.

    Isn't that what we should strive for? Rewarding more challenging and skillful play? There doesn't require a lot of skill or tactics in forming a ball and spamming AOEs. I'm just suggesting that ZOS should add depth to their system rather than let it be overrun by simple, one-dimensional tactics.

    I suppose that AoEs are meant to be stronger when fighting in a multi-opponent environment.

    Well a solution is that in player vs player contested areas AOE be default would just be halfed in damage or something.. it is possible to code in... and simple as well.

    Arenas wont solve the AOE issue either.. you will still be able to hit 6 players with it... and people hope for ultra small scale as well, if zeni has any sense it would be like 8v8v8 since it is an MMORPG and one of those features for content alike it is grouping together...

    That still wouldn't be enough. An AOE like pulsar doesn't do a lot of damage by itself. The issue is that players are stacking together and that damage is being multiplied as they all spam it simultaneously. What needs to be changed is how AOEs function and can be used in combat. A couple things that could potentially help resolve the issue is forcing players to actually target a player to use the AOE, much like a single target ability, as well as increasing the cost of using AOEs or placing in diminishing returns like they did with bolt escape.

    Would not mind that.. also being forced to be within the range of the person to use the AOE at all could solve alot of things, zeni could even use that suggestion.
