Flying Kites

Today I ran into a couple people while trying to raise skill and not dieing on Khenarthi's Roost. I was running along the beach killing mudcrabs and collecting chests and materials for crafting.

The one person was using his time to ask people to report the other person which was botting along the beach collecting chests. It was quite entertaining to watch as the first person would run ahead, grab the chest and hold it until the other was "stuck" and die, forcing him to respawn.

I did this for an hour or so and ran across them quite regularly.

He apparently made a video of it and is going to post it or send it in the Zen.

This is the type of reporting we need done if we are going to continue to enjoy the game and not be harassed by gold sellers and botters.

Thank you to the person that took time out of his gaming to make at least one botters day a little less profitable.

I wasnt aware a bot could open a chest? I though the RNG needed human interaction? Are you sure it was a bot.

Yeah, this all sound extremely weird. I don't see how the lockpick game could be automated, since lock information is entirely server-side.

well they could use a listening type thing to check for the rattle then stop with bot precision. I know one thing, they have gotten advanced since the last MMO that I played where they were annoying as this.

If the Legerdemain skill is high enough, it is possible to make the Force Lock chance very high. The Locksmith passive can increase the chance by up to 70%.

Bots don't rely on what's being displayed on the screen, they rely on information stored in the computer's memory. It takes a while but sooner or later bot coders will figure out which bits of data in memory relate to specific things in the game, then they can make their bot react to values changing in memory before your eyes have had a chance to notice changes occurring on the screen.

Excuse my simplified explanation of bot development, hopefully it helps give some insight into how bots can be a lot more effective than we might anticipate.

When you have legerdemain maxed out, you get 70% additional chance on a force lock. Using this it would be easy to automate E and then R (Force unlock).

Legerdemain is leveled to max quite easily, just take 10-20 min each day to farm sheep/stolen items from, for example a boat. Or spend an hour or 2 killing sheep and build up a good stash of guts. Then fence all that every day for a little over a week and you're good to go.
