Perspective of a veteran Gamer - ZOS

Hello, Zenimax & Bethesda soft after playing this game almost every day since Pre launch and having participated in Beta. I must say this is by far the worst MMO launch in the history of MMOs, I remember I couldn't wait for the download to finish already so I could play the game, at exactly 7am I was logging in for the first day of early access and the excitement of exploring the beautiful lore the TES series always delivered was humongous! During the first few days I laughed at the bugs because it's part of such a massive launch, the second week you start noticing these bugs everyone is talking about, the third week you begin to wonder why is it taking so long to fix things, the fourth week you think "well they not going to charge sub because the game is a mess" but I was wrong in fact many people got double charged and that's when I bigan to really wonder.

What were they thinking!?
Did you run out of budget
Did you rush because there's nothing really great out now?
How on earth did this happen?
Was it lack of proper management
Did a lot of people quit mid project?
The game looks like a DEV left every week and some new hiree picked up after him a feel days later.
Things that were reported in beta still persist.

I haven't cancelled my sub yet because I believe you guys will turn things around in record time. If by next sub I hear people still getting double charged, bots roaming wild still, rollbacks mid gameplay continue, main story quest breaking bugs still happening without some form of concrete improvement then I'll be forced to cancel my sub as it's not fair for me as customer to be paying for something that instead of giving me joy is turning into stress.

Ps: Sometimes I joke about bots and bugs just to lighten things up a little but they gotta go and fast.

As a veteran gamer you should know this isnt different from any other MMO out there.
Bugs, bots, qq on the forum.

    Like.
    Every.
    Other.
    MMO.

@Gisgo Yea man but other MMOs had the decency of being like "hey ok we delivered a inferior product, so you won't be charged until the game feels complete" it's common sense. This is The Elder Scrolls name it's not some Chinese MMO that spawned over night.

The problem with that is once you go F2P, you can't go back. "Okay, we charged you $14.99 a month at first, now we won't anymore, now it's six months later and we're going to charge you $14.99 a month again" - that's not going to happen.

Im a veteran mmorpg player as well (14 years). Where in earth did you see that? That simply did not happen.

@Archaon‌ oh it didn't!? 5000 gold in to the first person who says which MMO upon failing on launch did not charge it's customers.

Wow FFIV? You cant really compare that games launch to this one. The only reason they did so in this case is because it lacked pretty much any features standard for an MMO. I mean any. Here you can whinge about the AH, or guild bank, or whatever minor reason you have to QQ about. But to compare it to the launch of that game is so intellectually dishonest I wouldnt even touch the comment if not for the lure of 5000 gold.

That said, its hilarious you say you're a veteran gamer, yet you're unable to see all this coming.

Awe you just missed the prize! The correct answer was FFXIV. shame you were so close.

But anyways believe it or not the only complaint I had about that game was the lag to open UI besides that I was happy.

Ahh well, I just woke up, too early for roman numerals.

Sure this game has issues like that, nobody would deny them that has experience playing the game.

That said, the vision that they have for this game, and what I see in game design, is pretty amazing. And it's ambitious. So Im willing to give them time to work out technical issues, the game is still very playable in the meantime. I find the odd bugged quest here or there, I rage about PVP from time to time, but if you persist, you will be rewarded.

I know about 70% of players are going to quit or already have quit. That's standard for an MMO. But I honestly cant help but feel sorry for them. And my only hope is that they stay to the current design direction, and dont change it on a whim to try to get those players back. It's far too hard to get MMO players to come back when they've already quit. Its much easier to go after new customers, and you do that by making the game better, not changing its direction.

FFXIV is your veteran answer to relate with ESO problems?

They had their customers unable to join the servers because they literally sold far more game copies than the server had capacity for.

They did not make any refund because of game bugs or related issues, so save your circus prizing jokes for the time you have a valid point.

@Archaon‌ lol how awesome is that!? "sold far more copies than their servers could handle" over here it's the other way around. Unless things change fast a nano server will keep the remaining die hard fans connected.

I can list a few games that had better launches than ESO.

    1. EQ2
    2. Star Wars galaxies
    3. SWTOR

I wouldn't say they were flawless by any means, but all of the games I listed had quests that worked, stable servers with no lag, no billing issues, and no bots that I noticed at least.

Regardless of the debate on the "All MMO's have bugs at launch" I am just tired of it. As a consumer I no longer have the patience to be paying for a beta test. Particularly since they don't seem to really pay attention to the testers during beta.

Maybe I am just getting too old for this. I have canceled my sub. A day too late to miss the latest billing cycle, so I guess I'll feed my horse for 30 days. I still have high hopes for this game and I think it represents the best chance of pulling the genre back in the right direction.

I will continue to monitor the progress and will be more than happy to re-sub once they finish beta.

lol SWG didnt have a great launch. I would put them and ESO on equal footing in that regard.

You couldnt log in at all the first day. When the game did launch it was riddled with bugs, a lot of bugs. A lot of the bugs they never got around to fixing. There was no mount option in the game until several game updates later, when they added creature mounts. Still took a couple of months to get speeders. Not to mention it was Star Wars and launched without...space?

Also the rubber banding in that game was hilarious, considering how long it took you to walk everywhere with no speeders. It would literally troll you after several minutes of walking and snap you back to where you started.

    Oh the rose colored glasses.

I could log in the first day. Servers were loaded but I logged in just fine. I also played pretty lag free. Not that there wasn't any but it was nothing like this game. Other than those two things none of your other points are bugs. Just stuff you think should have been in the game.

    Are you serious?

Might be awesome, for Square of course. You pay a game then you cant further play because they have their servers at full capacity and wont even let you login for few days, and they only refunded PSN buyers afaik. I doubt that would have made over 5% total sales.

So how does that relate to a company offering refunds over bugs/balance issues/bots..? Because afaik, we can all get into ESO servers and play no matter how good you feel the experience.

I guess you have a few more examples besides FFXIV because you clearly wrote "other MMOs". Im impatient to know wich others did. Might one of them have any relation with ESO actual state..

Right. Well everyone had issues getting in the first day, with the vast majority unable to play at all. Their login server crashed, and was not brought up again until the following day. So I guess unless you were among the first to get logged in, and didnt get DC the whole day, I'd believe your story. But not really. SWG was one of my favorite games, and also a great example of the topic. Theres dozens of bugs that I can remember that were game breaking, I'll go over a few in the interest of brevity.

Their signature and most interesting classes were broken or unplayable upon release. Bioengineer, unable to craft tissues, which was the only real point of the class, until 2 months after release. Chef..dependent on bioengineer tissues to make anything decent, utterly useless until a complete revamp of food and drink system, 3 months after release. Droid engineer, useless until the rare resources needed to craft the only useful droids began to spawn, depending on server, could take months. Bounty hunter, bugged targets, unable to level in investigation tree for a long time. Keep in mind walking 12,000 meters to find a bugged target on an adventure planet, meant you had to walk back to the starport, which basically equates to 30-45 minutes of play time that was completely wasted on nothing. Rifleman, unable to do anything until mentioned food revamp introduced readily available mind buff food, as rifleman used massive amounts of mind to use ANY specials.

This is just the major inhibiting issues, there were untold numbers of exploits and bugs affecting anything from PVP to PVE to crafting, for example the combat medic bug, where a player could apply disease to your body after they incapped you, kill you, so you respawned with a disease which would kill you, again. If something like this came up in PVP in ESO, I can only imagine the outrage. This was not fixed until several months into the game.

So please, dont feed me this SWG great launch BS. I loved the game, but thats just hilarious.
