this game aint anything like WoW, so I have been told

If you like Age of Conan like I do, this is a refreshing mmo, in many ways it reminds me of aoc, and in others not, they have taken what I mean is the best from aoc, and build an even better game experience for us.

I totally understand why you maybe reluctant with all the ranting you read here, though I would read up on gamer reviews instead, since what might be one mans personal problem might seem a bit huge, when he/she comes to the forums and yells out their problems

the 3 things u list hackers, bots , gold glitches I dont see a lot of in the game, if you are a casual player, these things wont bother you so much, only one is bugging me, and thats the bots I see them on smaller levels 1-50, but thankfully GMs in the game is dealing with them more and more, takes time to clean up.

the other two, I know they are their, they for sure shouldn't be, I just dont see them, so its harder to think of them when I travel around tamiral

and when I see motif trying to be sold for 200.000 gold I just smile and say good luck with that in my heard :)

This game not WoW , and i dont mean that is bad or good , both are good games.

If you did check what this game offers , do check it well , and dont mind that the game still got many bugs and balance issues , then go for it.

I do think the game is well done , ofc like all other MMOs , its start is a ride in bug-land.

This is a first one for me, everyone i hear/read says that Wildstar is the new WoW (a WoW upgrade being a popular definition).
But to stay in topic, i love this game, but if you have expectations about it (skyrim online, a wow killer, whatever) you will be disappointed.

I love Cyrodiil, luring the enemy and the brawls in Bruma, and thats enough to keep me here as long as there are players to play with.
If i was a PVEr? Im not sure how long i would stay.

@Gisgo have you played the open beta? It's on until Sunday so try it if you have the time. The end game is aimed at 40 man "hardcore" player raids. But I can't get past the graphics...it's like playing a Sega Genesis game online. At any moment, I feel like Sonic the Hedgehog is going to show up. There's a lot of clutter on the screen and small print on the various screens/menus. It just doesn't feel polished/well rounded enough to hold my interest.

With the hype that follows most MMOs, people will play for a month then unsub and go back to WoW. Wildstar will go FTP way before ESO ever does.

Nobody can answer this question for you, so I'll offer some reasonably objective information instead.

Yes, there are issues with bots and some bugs. Based on personal experience and observation, I believe most people will not have trouble enjoying the game because of this. Bots are particularly disruptive in the high level area of Coldharbor, and low level "Starter Islands", but fortunately are mostly eradicated in other areas and public dungeons.

If you're looking for "the next big MMO" this probably isn't it. It's an MMO, but it intentionally lacks many MMO conventions as a matter of design. There's no server-wide auction house, the UI and HUD are as minimalistic as other TES games (in stark contrast to the usual clutter of MMO HUDs), and any other number of design elements contrast with MMO standards such as targeted healing.

Following that same vein of logic, it isn't a "wow killer" either. It doesn't try to mimic World of Warcraft, or explicitely cater to people coming from World of Warcraft. While the two undoubtedly share some components, the same could be said of humans and monkeys -- yet most of us don't fling poo or eat insects.

ESO is an acquired taste. One will either love it, or hate it. I suggest trying it for yourself if you can afford to do so without breaking the bank. If you're unwilling to take the risk, or you're explicitly looking for a "wow killer", then you may wish to consider other options.

Subjectively, I'm enjoying it as are many others. I'm not sure ESO will ever be wildly popular though. More likely, like EVE Online, it will end up with a following of highly dedicated fans.

Don't use these forums as a recommendation or review.

Also, most of the other "reviewers" out in the wild only played the game for a few days or so at most.

If you liked Skyrim and Morrowind and anything else TES and want to have that feel with the added possibilities of an MMO I would recommend giving it a go for yourself.

Given the criteria you listed, no you shouldn't buy the game. It is a fun game and I am enjoying it. I've had little of the problems you mention. But if you are so caught up in if this is the wow killer, or the next big mmo, I would give it a skip. Gong into any game with that expectation is setting yourself up for disappointment.

I really wanted this game to be the next big MMO or The big WoW killer

The game isn't a WoW killer at all, but that's because it's very different than WoW and people who love WoW might not like ESO. ESO seems very similar to WoW at first glance, they've really only made subtle changes to the way WoW operates, however, those subtle changes have a profound effect!

First of all, there's no end game right now. Craglorn is coming, so there will be something to do at end game, but even then the bulk of the game will still be in the journey. If you are the type of person that enjoys the journey, then you'll love ESO. Yet if you are the type of person that is constantly focused on getting to cap, you will not.

I haven't seen a bad review of ESO yet that wasn't horrifically flawed. Is ESO a perfect game? Nope. There are a few bugs here and there, plenty of minor quirks, and it certainly has more than its fair share of bots, but at the end of the day none of that greatly deters from the enjoyment of the journey.

In the end, I think almost anyone that enjoys MMOs will get their money's worth out of the first month alone, even if they choose not to subscribe.

Most reviewers didn't really get past lvl 20. I think mmorpg.com made the best review so far.

Also if you want a WoW killer Aka WoW clone mmo, you should go for Wildstar. I don't think it will kill wow, though, I do think there is one game in particular that could do it, if it dies, it is because the devs couldn't show enough new stuff and many other MMOs took a lot of player away. It is silly to think that one MMO alone would kill it, especially so since there are more MMOs out there than stars on the sky and many took a chunk of WoW players already.

I would say that if you are looking for something different, then this game is worth a try. It is not a total failure ala Simcity but its not exactly a runaway success either, and most of these things are non-design problems in that you will still be able to enjoy the core of what the developers intended.

Browsing forums to judge how good/bad a game is usually not reccomended, human nature dictates that we do much better at complaining than giving praises. So all you see here and anywhere else is mostly what people are dissatisfied with. Some are warranted but most are not. Tread carefully.

Uhm, how the heck can OP post here?

Anyhoo, wait till at least the Craglorn content upgrade is out.
This game has major problems ATM, no matter what the "optimists" say.

Yes, the forums and even the reviewers exaggerate a great deal. Still another 2 weeks of patching and especially bot fighting are sorely needed for me to recommend anybody to try if this game´s playstyle suits him.

If you just cannot hold out so long, then go ahead and jump in for 30 to 90(if you activate with a GTC) days. What the heck, YOLO, right? :p/ducks´n´runs

i find ESO a refreshing change to the slew of mmos that have come out. As for wildstar being a WoW killer or WoW2.0 its..not..its WoW with guns lol, Have played beta and open beta...cant stand the on rail feeling. Sure eso has you going from zone to zone but at least it does not feel like your mindlessly going through it. And when WoW launches its expatiation WS will take a big his as will ESO. but in no way will ether belly u.

Yes on the forums there are a lot of complaints of things that need to be addressed, some more valid than other, but I think this is a demonstration of how people can get passionate about ESO and in the end how much they want it to succeed.

If this is a game for you it depends of what kind of player are you.
If you are a so called "hardcore gamer" who will rush trough the game leveling skipping quests, text, lore to arrive as fast as possible to the fabled valhalla land of "Endgame", probably ESO will disappoint you, since it seems that "Endgame" is still not there and there are some balancing issues in classes at higher levels.
If you like to endlessly grind the same dungeon/raid boss again and again for the gratification of "The Drop", again maybe ESO will disappoint you.
If you need the game to hold your hand and keep social interaction to a minimal level by automated tools like the AH and dungeon finders, then again it will not fit your expectations.
If on the other hand you appreciate to level by questing without much pressure, you like to immerse yourself in the game world, appreciate the lore, take your time exploring, personalizing your character in the look and trough experimenting unique and "fun" builds, like to interact and barter with other people, then I will give ESO a try.
Personally I'm having a good time until now, but being a "casual with a job" I'm still relatively low level. The thing that bothers me at most right now is the overwhelming abundance of bots in some areas, that I hope they will address as soon as possible.

If you played previous ES titles you know how the game works. In all ES games the whole point of the game was doing quests. There were literaly nothing more than quests and you could spend hundreds of hours on them and get to see great stories and be part of great adventures. Those games were and still are super good because of the quests.

This game is no different. Game offers very little other than quests so if you liked the previous ES games, I bet you like this one too. I sure love it.

Lot of people are angry because they are playing this wrong. They are angry that they have to "grind quests", which is ridiculous because who point of ES games is to do quests and see the whole story and be part of immersive world. This game is all about that, just like all other ES games too.

There are some content outside of quests too like PVP and group dungeons(which do have great stories but you will never get to see them because everyone want's to rush through them skipping all the dialogue and you can't do them alone)

Just think what you wan't. Do you wan't an MMO clone or ES game? If you wan't ES game, buy this.

I'm surprised how OP can post here. Given that you need to participate in beta or purchase the game for activation code in order to access the forum.

I'm assuming OP is beta player. If that's the case I'm pretty sure you have a general idea as to how the game ESO works.

Regarding bots, hackers, and gold glitches, I do not see how this is going to affect your purchasing decision. Know that these factors shouldn't affect whether this game is enjoyable to you. Also, the matter is currently being closely watched and the frequency at which bots are being eliminated is getting much better.

Your main factoring, if I may, is the sustainability of the game given that you want this to be a great MMO, one of which will not fall. This is something that the forum cannot answer and you have to judge for yourself. If numbers is of your concern, there is an article that shows retail sales figure plus estimated online sales totalling minimum 1.2 million players. (This may not be accurate)

I suggest you ask yourself the following questions.
    1. Do I enjoy listening to stories and taking part in it? (ESO related)
    2. Do I understand the freedom offered to me? Whereby I'm allowed to jump in and out of quest as I wish, to do whatever I want at my own pace, to play any style I want and understand the challenges. (ESO related)
    3. What do I love in WoW or any other games that I love, and whether this game offers me what I love? (General idea when picking a game)

To better your judgement, also look at the subscription and match as to whether value wise it satisfy your expectations when you provide this amount. I personally feel that my downloaded files are worth what I pay and whatever extra ZOS provides is a bonus. But that's how I think.
People keep telling me they're gonna buy me an ale. They never do.

There are only two things I can't stand in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's culture. And the Elves.

    Short answer yes.

With regards to hackers, bots, gold glitches I can explain a bit; gold glitches might refer to a bank glitch where your purchased slots disappeared (tickets sent in to support get their slots back with apologies, did not affect many people and I have not heard of it glitching any time recently since it was patched)

Bots, all MMOs have bots, I have honestly seen much worse botting issues in other games than ESO so if you have ever experienced bots before then you will know that they are not that bad over here and that far too many people use it as an easy complaint, in fact, I only ever see bots in low level areas. Hackers fall into this category too, they basically run under the map and harvest crafting nodes. Once again, it is not that common and it exists in all MMOs, for instance, WoW still has bots so remember that.

Your fears I understand but they are not that big of a deal if you focus on playing the game. With that I will say that ESO Vanilla is definitely not worthy of spending money on BUT the addons that you can download truly make this game shine, no 2 players will have the exact same addons, some might have similar but you can be sure that everyone plays the game uniquely. I recommend downloading Minion also, it makes adding/removing/updating addons an absolute cinch, 1 or 2 clicks and its all done.

Have fun (you will) and see you in game.
