Usually they are one of the most peaceful races along with the Argonians, but that was the time before the age of Mer and Men. Before the flu that wiped out most of the Khajiit population, the Khajiit hardly had any in-fighting; no records that I've found of slavery and little issues with Skooma because moon sugar is potent enough for them. Maybe I'm a romantic that way and just like for the society of peace to exist.
Imagine an Orc as Emperor over Tamriel...

The Khajiit have always been among my favorite races, as well. There's something about the intrigue of being among the oldest civilizations in Tamriel, with the ruins of ancient temples buried beneath the relentless sands of the wastelands of the north, that peaks my imagination. In addition to their direct connection to the moons, Masser and Secunda, which surrounds the race with a distinctly mystical air.
Though, to be fair, they also hold more than a few gladiatorial arenas; particularly the Thizzrini Arena in Dune where combatants fight to the death for fame and glory. They also have conflicts with the Bosmer of Valenwood that stretch back centuries, tying in with their creation mythology.
As for in-fighting -- I haven't been able to find any significant instances ever since the formation of the Province of Elsweyr in 2E 309, two hundred and seventy-three years before TESO.
The Khajiit are sensualists, living to enjoy life for the sake of life itself. Most of the time, they are peaceful, good-natured, and good -- if sometimes odd -- humored, but they are also as often ferocious warriors as they are guileful traders or sly thieves.
Moonsugar itself is grown as a cash crop throughout Elsweyr, and is a valuable commodity as a staple of Khajiiti cuisine and cooking; which is often rich in flavor and sweetness. Addiction to the cane plant can occur, but typically only when consuming the sugar in its raw form in quantities that exceed its commercial use. It's not until being distilled and refined that moonsugar becomes its infamous product: skooma. The skooma trade has a significant presence in Elsweyr, as Elsweyr is the key supplier of the plants, but you would be surprised by how many Khajiit speak out against skooma and those that distill and peddle it; actively acting against it, and seeking to root it out as a matter of honor.
There is certainly more to them than the curiously spoken cat-men we meet as down-on-their-luck criminals and smugglers from the other installments in the Elder Scrolls series.

I would highly recommend looking into the "Improved Emperor's Guide to Tamriel", as authored and illustrated by the character Flaccus Terentius. It provides some invaluable information about the many different societies throughout Tamriel. I acquired my copy along with my Imperial Edition purchase.
Along with the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages, it has been my primary insight into the more obscure civilizations of Tamriel, like the Khajiit of Elsweyr. As it is an official work directly from the developers behind the game, it's all entirely accurate; excepting the odd quip from the opinionated Imperial author, Flaccus.
Altmer master race.

The Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages is indeed a website, similar to many wikias you see for various games or series. It has been around since 1995, and is easily my go-to site for Elder Scrolls information just ahead of the Elder Scrolls wikia.
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Main_Page
It has a slew of pages, ranging from details about in-game quests, lore compilations, transcriptions of in-game books, to pages dedicated to the methodology behind each races' naming parameters.
