closing up to 5h maintenance, still no update

I know this has probably been said every patch or lengthy maintenance. But I will keep saying it until they do keep us updated ...

I've been saying that they need to communicate better, but at the moment I'm OK with this. Why? Because they told us in advance that this maintenance would take longer than the usual ones. Now if it's still down in an hour and they haven't given us an update, I'll feel differently.

Yeah, my patience threshold is hit when the maintenance time is doubled and they don't give updates.

Pretty much this. But ZO seems to go mute whenever the server goes down.

how bad are their employees are for not being able to estimate even within an hour for patching a server.
As it's been said many times, you'd lose your job if you couldnt give an estimate on such a thing in any decent company as a tech ...

agreed...earlier I downloaded a small 34mb file when I opened the launcher and thought the maintenance was done already....been sitting here for an hour and a half since...waiting....I guess there is more for me to download...wish they would tell us how much longer or something at least...

There probably isn't anything else for you to download. The patch itself seems to have been a pretty minor one based on the patch notes, so it seems that they applied the patch first & propagated it to the patch download servers, and now they're completing whatever backend work they were doing with this maintenance.

They said it was going to take longer than usual because of backend work that they were doing. Without knowing the nature of that backend work (and without knowing all of the ins and outs of their hardware, framework, DB etc) we can't know how major or minor it is. In my industry (banking software) when we have to do significant backend work it can take as much as 24 hours or so depending on what it is.

I think we agree in principal, we just have different thresholds for when we start to feel like they should have updated us. And that's fine - I think your threshold (double the usual maintenance time) is perfectly reasonable, even if it's different from my own.

Why not implement a system where you can run old build and new build simultaneously? So there would be minimum downtime.

While not impossible, that would be difficult from a database standpoint. Even if they were to implement that, in some cases both the old build and new build would have to be down at the same time.

Nope, that's what offline limits are for. Also, I'm mostly talking about software that the customers don't directly interact with: our CRM and LOS systems in particular. Having our core banking system down for any extended period is very rare (and like I said, even then people can access their money).

Yeah, I bet it's hard. But once it's implemented, I believe the uptime will be like 99%.

I dont know what to think at this point. I work crazy hectic schedule, in oceanic time zone. Some days I dont even log in to feed my horse, or could go days at a time without doing so. It seems everytime I say "Okay tonight is my night to play" or I simply have the day off, they pull this. I know Im just not fortunate and my timing is awful, but its getting to the point where I dont even care anymore. I guess that's what lead me to not logging in much to begin with.

I love the game, I think its got great potential, and its good they're fixing bugs. But I looked at the patch notes, there really isnt much of an update there to be honest.

I was a very strong supporter of the game. But after playing a nightblade, having to work 10 times harder than other classes in PVE, and being significantly weaker than easy mode classes like DK and sorcerer, I give even less of a damn.

That's MMO's for you, but for once I'd like to be pleasantly surprised and log in when I want to play, and have actual issues be addressed. I'll take one or the other, thanks.

Yeah but patience is. I don't see anything that isn't in the original post that I personally have got bent out of shape over NEEDING an update for.
