What the hell?

I'm looking at my billing statement right now and cannot believe what I am seeing. I was part of the BETA group but never once gave out any billing information and yet I was charged $59.99 from ELDRSCROLS and I never even bought the game or had any intentions of buying the game! Then I looked further and not 3 days ago the same thing tried to charge my account for an additional $59.99 AGAIN! Thank goodness the funds were added back to my account but I am more than furious that I was charged $60 for a game I didn't even purchase! I'll be calling my bank tomorrow this is unacceptable...

Are you saying that you have not played ESO since the beta but have been charged twice for purchasing the game?

I would make sure that no other strange charges appear on your credit card statement.

If all you say is true, then you may be the victim of credit card theft and it may be a coincidence that you happen to know what Elder Scrolls actually is.

No other strange charges other than that. I'll call my bank tomorrow first thing and pray to god I can get the funds back and make whatever changes necessary to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Aye, sounds like the best thing to do. Weird as hell though ...

I've sent messages to both customer support on here as well as the bank even though I'll be calling them tomorrow. Just wanted to put this out here in case it happens to anyone else as this all occurred just last week and earlier this week...

Sorry im confused. How can they charge your card unless you gave them your cc details? And isnt that through pre-ordering or purchasing the game at least once? Otherwise, why would you have given them your card details in the first place? Unless someone stole your card details and also knew your email password to set up your account? Really strange.
  • ashleymdotyub17_ESO
Trust me. I'm confused by this whole thing as well. It may not be Zenimax but whoever it is sure as hell wants the blame to be placed on them.

A lot of us think that the gold spam websites are using stolen credit card information to purchase games.

We also know that Zenimax has been recently refunding money to these banned accounts.

The scenario fits what the OP has described, although not perfectly.

You've have your bank account information hijacked. If you never input it yourself or linked a Paypal account then there's no way you'd possibly be charged. Somebody else is doing it.

Somebody ordered the game on your card. If you think you've never put your card into the site, somebody has.

Talk to your relevant financial provider in order to block internet transactions until you have a new card with a different CVV. You should be able to do this through their help desk if you are out of hours.

    Check your system for malware.

Just got off the phone with my bank. Apparently they have seen this charge from this same thing before. The charge was disputed and funds put back in my account thank god. Hope no one else is a victim of this =\

Banks are usually pretty good about this. Wife had lost her card, and someone had used it 10 different times. The fault is of the company that authorized the purchases without verifying the identity of the purchaser. It's a bit harder to verify over the internet though.

Odd situation though, makes you wonder if some gold seller company got a hold of it somehow. Hopefully they issue you a new card with different number, as typically they do in these situations.

Keep in mind though, if you go through your bank exclusively. Most MMOs do a ban on a player if they dispute funds through their bank for a refund if they had purchased and played the game, but simply wanted a refund.
