Empty/Bugged loot containers bug (keeping count)

I also have noticed this same issue with containers saying there's loot inside a backpack, bag, dresser, nightstand ect. and coming up empty most of the time.. I also do alot of crafting and am finding it alot harder to do it.. the mats are just not there. It's bad enough that the bots are hovering over nodes, or i walk up to a node and it disappears before my eyes.. This is starting to become a real issue and needs to be fixed.

Yeah, well, I can get a horse easily in game. Motifs and recipes I cannot get reliably. So selling them in a cash shop would be a slap in the face. I'm already mad enough about them selling the imperial race.

Methinks you have no idea what's being discussed here if you think that comment is relevant to this topic, these nodes are PER PLAYER so 'parasites' can't affect you AT ALL; so your sneer at ZOS is entirely groudless.

Since when? If I walk up to a cupboard and loot it, its looted to you! You can test this by going into any area with a lot of people and wait for them to loot!

False. I have played side by side with my wife since Day 1 of Early Access. We begin & end each day looting whatever town we're in. The lootable objects are definitely per player as we confirm every single day. If they weren't, you would never be able to loot an object. Have you ever noticed now many people are running in & out of houses?

I'm kind of mad that I bought the Imperial race, but can't find the Imperial motif anywhere...shouldn't have to make a bunch of Imperial crafters just to be able to use that motif style thingy after paying money. I mean they made it so the Imperial motif was ridiculously rare...then they went and nerfed all the loot containers and made them even more rare /facepalm

Since when? If I walk up to a cupboard and loot it, its looted to you! You can test this by going into any area with a lot of people and wait for them to loot! They did talk about instances loot or phased but I have yet to see it. Maybe the loot we get is a RNG for each person but regards a cupboard or locker being looted, that isn't.

By parasite, I meant to bots that make it their mission to loot every damn thing. If they don't need it, people should leave it. Also by parasite, I meant the people log on and off repeatedly. Oh and BTW, parasite is something that leaches of something else like for instance, if you have a vampire sucking out your blood, its a Parasite! Do try to quote Wiki's more because after all, they are gospal!

You are wrong. Urns, trunks, dressers, nightstands, wardrobes, crates, and sacks (and similar containers) are ABSOLUTELY INSTANCED to the player. This is not a guess, this is complete truth and fact. Tested with guildies in team chat, we have gone into rooms and each of us looted the same trunks, sacks, crates, etc. without affecting the other players. We would see the character walk up to the container, and walk away, with no change in the container's appearance nor contents. If you don't have guildies to test this with, here's a tiny bit of logic for you. Next time you are in a bank with 40 other players, check and see if you find something in a wardrobe or trunk. You'll find stuff in them. I do every time. Some are empty, some look full but are empty, but I find 2-3 items at least. Do you REALLY think nobody else checked before you got there?

Before you treat someone like a fool, make sure you aren't spouting off idiocy. Even the mods on here have confirmed that the containers are instanced.

I won't update the totals just yet (will do that last thing before I finish playing)
But I have to point out that this morning isn't looking good at all !

    103 containers opened

    79 failed/bugged/empty

    WTH... that's almost 80% I thought 60% was a joke but 80%.
Did Zeni sneak in another stealth nerf to drop rates? Its either that or the RNG just really hates me this morning !

OK so a long day play yesterday, split over a few sessions and in different zones. Hopefully this means theses stats are overall more accurate

    So yesterday's tally was-
    452 containers opened
    276 failed/bugged/empty

This brings the overall totals to

1006 containers opened (Chest, Nightstand, Desk, Backpack/Bag)

577 containers showed 'empty' and contained no loot once opened !

    That's around a 57% bug rate !

This also makes a couple of things stand out to me. Firstly, yesterdays early score of approx. 80% may indeed just have been bad luck with RNG on my part.
Secondly (and much more importantly) The fail/bug rate is always between 50-60%.
This to me seems like more than just a minor problem. If you got into your car and it only started 50% of the time you would not be very happy. Imagine buying a TV that only worked 50% of the time, geez we'd send it straight back.
I think this issue needs to be addressed, ok I wouldn't say its game-breaking but it is serious !

Another thread just reminded me I need to update totals...lol

    Another 311 containers opened / 151 bugged

    Totals now -

1317 containers opened (Chest, Nightstand, Desk, Backpack/Bag)

728 containers showed 'empty' and contained no loot once opened !

question is, is this a bug? Has anyone gotten a response from ZOS regarding the lootable being empty? Or is it just that its part of game immersion to simulate a real enviro?

Well containers that are empty say empty. These are containers that indicate some sort of contents, but as soon as you open them it says empty !

You dont craft any item right click change to imperial and you have a imperial item how hard is that?

Also useless zeni bashing the horse is only in the cash shop cause people ASKED for that cause they felt they had a right to buy a starter mount without buying the imperial edition. Geesh they do ask the comunity asks and get bashed for it.

While this is a bug, I say keep it. Make every container operable and then tell you if it is empty after. More immersion to not know if it is empty until after opening it.

    Before berating a poster it's best to understand what's being said. You can use the Imperial 'look' of an item this way. But there is also a motif to craft items also;
    RACIAL MOTIFS 10: IMPERIAL CYRODS
One item is bound and the motif one is tradable to others like those without the Imperial edition. So it is actually available in game and possible to obtain without the Imperial Edition.

That binds the item to account. What if I (as a crafter) want to sell or give away Imperial style items. Paid for the Imperial edition and get shafted due to bots, goldsellers, and exploiters. There's basically no hope of ever finding one.

With the drop rate nerf due to bots, and the container bug where they appear full but are actually empty, and the goldsellers and exploiters being the only ones with these motifs and selling them for massive amounts IN REAL MONEY, this game is officially broken as far as container loot goes. GG.

Please also take into account. Not everyone likes or even does the lockpick game. So if ZOS considered a mitigating factor, they just alienated people.

This is a side note, but I am inclined to agree. Making Imperial a rare was not a clever move.

No, they should just send a mail to our ingame mailbox to all owners of the Imperial edition with a copy of the Imperial motif book attached. One per character.

If they followed our other advice on how to fix motif and recipe drops in container loot then there'd be absolutely no harm done at all to the economy -
    • increase drop rates and make all motifs and recipes bind to account on pickup
      OR
    • increase drop rates significantly so all players can get what they want

Because the motif would be bound to account (or if they went with the second option, it'd be so plentiful nobody would be able to sell it for much if anything at all anyway).

Sounds familiar indeed... A lot of containers, not just the nightstands and desks, but also crates, sacks, urns all indicate having content yet turn up empty. Ran 2 dungeons tonight where there were a lot of containers, where maybe 2 actually contained something (my 1001st and 1002nd lockpick).

I find it odd as well that there are a lot of locations and especially dungeon instances where containers are no more then decoration. You can't interact with them at all, and there's not a single usable container there (unless you're lucky to find a chest or heavy sack). Really wondering if this is by design or a bug as well... Feels odd to have huge instances where you can't interact with a single container.

Fully agree. This is also something Zeni are looking into (apparently) They have said that a lot more 'world objects' will become interactable (is that a word...lol) anyway I'm assuming containers, chests, urns, sacks are all in this list of items. At least I hope so as this was a massive part of Elder Scrolls yet was forgotten by Zeni !

I've done some extensive research on this as well. For me, it started at the beginning of May after the patch. Out of the 9000 containers (I did my testing in groups of 100, 5 times per day) that would have recipes, I had a ratio of 47% turning up empty. I continue to keep track of this as well...every day since I first noticed it. So far I've found 4 blue quality recipes. I understand that they need to be a bit rare, but this is ridiculous for 18 days of looting.

I think people are saying that there are containers that indicate they are empty, and others which don't say they are empty, but when opened give nothing (ie they are empty anyhow). Im not sure if its a bug of deliberate, but its confusing whichever it is.

My research wasn't actually done with the intention of looking for anything but what strikes me here is that your bugged/failed % of containers is similar to mine.
Can't be a coincidence that we're both getting a rate of around 50%
(I'm beginning to wonder if this bug/failure rate is by 'design' ???)

Relog might help on totally empty sucks and crates. I've tried to relog yesterday in all empty Windhelm and after that it back to normal. The worst thing is the bug with futniture and vessels that are found to be empty after opening. So that's what you talking about. I did a note during the main quest Daughter of Giants. I tried to open everything, but most of the trunks and urns was bugged as never before. I noted only the number of normally opened full trunks with lockpicks only and that was 6. The rest of those looking like seemingly full was bugged and empty instead. I haven't noted the total number, but it was like 50-70 I think.
