the four main reasons you need gold

harvester100b16_ESO
Ok so there are currently 4 things in game that cost a ton of gold make these more affordable or unable to purchase with gold and the main reasons for gold sellers to exist will fade with them
1) Silly prices for Motifs 40-50k is a lot of gold and many people will want these particular styles early on so buying gold is an easy route for them.
Make them trainable or skill point based to remove this gold sink.

2) Bites the prices are coming down but still will cost a great deal.
Make these a quest from a quest giver make it hard to obtain or maybe make the spawns slightly more common to 3x times more bits prices come down by the same roughly.

3) Mounts another huge sum that people would prefer to have as early as possible so again forcing some less scrupulous to buy the gold instead of earn.
Make them cheaper or make basic mounts a quest at say lvl 10 (I have my imperial that costs me only 1gold) making a starter basic mount cost maybe 100g or 10gold with a quest that teaches you to horse ride would make sense after all we are soulless vessels and riding a horse isn't easy.

4) Inventory no need to explain more if you've already spent all your gold ever just to buy the next 10 slots you will feel this pain.
Few suggestions a) make crafting bags say a 60 slot enchanting bag that only holds runes and glyphs that maybe costs a skill point to buy or 5000g for each profession, b) reduce the cost for each upgrade.

These are just a few ideas I thought id share that may just help the gold seller botting problems ..the less we need to spend on basics and the more we have to buy mats or gear ..the less need to own huge piles of gold just to be competitive in crafting or have an extra skill line.

Nothing you suggested would help with botting.

You're completely forgetting that gold is used for repair bills and buying goods from vendors and other players. Also forgetting that it's also used for leveling up mounts.
Is it better to out-monster the monster or to be quietly devoured?

Well, once they introduce the criminal system, the price of mats will go up because we won't be able to loot a lot of stuff, unless we want to go to jail and/or pay a heavy fine.
  • harvester100b16_ESO
I didn't say it would stop them but it would go a long way to help make them less desirable to those tempted to risk buying from them.
It is simple economics I wouldn't mind betting that a good portion of the gold bought has gone on the 4 things ive listed .
Sure its not every reason to need gold unless you devalue gold so much the economy dies but it will help

botters in most mmo's have been directly linked to gold sellers
sorry I didn't make that clear so its a knockon effect.
Of course there are some botters who farm for there own stuff but either type is against the rules

As far as I know the specifics of the criminal system haven't been released so this is just speculation .
Although I do agree with you it probably is likely to have that effect we just don't know for sure

Gotta start the thought process somewhere, and I think this is a good start. Thanks

    1) Motifs are just graphical fluff fluff and you can find them all your self. No need to buy.

    2) I had no problem finding a NPC WW to bite me and a I have allot of friends that have become vampires through NPCs. People are just lazy.

    3) Mounts are expensive for low level players but as soon as you hit VR 1-2 you can easily grind 10k gold an hour.

    4) Well I don't feel like bag or bank slots are super expensive including pack horse slots. But as a crafter you will always have to little storage for all the mats that exist in the game. So we would QQ that there was to little bag space even if we had a million slots on each char. However a small reduction in bank space cost would be welcomed. But I only think they should reduce it with 5% or so. consider how easy gold is to get after lv 50.

But the gold selling botting problem will not go away no matter what they change in the game mechanics. Only way to get rid of all gold selling bots is to ban all players that use there services. Because as long as they can earn money on doing they will exist.

What ZOS needs to do is creating algorithms that monitor everyone that plays on there server better so they can easier ban players that don't follow the rules. In other words ZOS have to go all "big brother" on there servers, like NSA did on the world after 9/11.

It probably won't prevent you from looting mats from dungeons, and pretty much anywhere outside of cities/villages. Even within there will probably be chests/barrels/crates/etc that are free to loot and others that are stealing.

I'd bet that everything you would be stealing from will be incremental to the current interactable objects, they've already said there will be more interactable objects in the game.

Attention Zenimax: Stamina builds don't hold up to magicka builds, and this is causing most of your class imbalance. It makes melee weapons and bows weaker than staves and class abilities. It makes medium and heavy armor less desirable than light armor. Fix this imbalance, and you'll address most of your balance issues.

True, the details of the criminal system haven't been released yet, but ZOS has had the tendency to introduce steep gold sinks.

Just because there are 0g mats, doesn't mean they have no value. 0g is there resale value, no their retail value. Try buying a lock pick from a vendor for 0g. It ain't gonna happen. The same thing with so many items. Flint is a 0g item, yet players are selling it for at least 10g and NPCS sell it for 15g.

The horses and the inventory (bank) size I can get but the Motifs and the Bites you don't actualy need.

You "can" farm the motifs if you wish too, but you will get them in the in the end if you just open enough cupboards.

And as far as bites go, paying for them is just stupid... it's a way to blow alot of cash to get your new toys "now"... so I don't even feel sorry for people that say that's why you need money in this game.

I have 2 more motifs left to get. Ancient Elf and a very rare purple one I once saw being sold in zone chat. I got a 100 slot bank and a 94 slot inventory, a 12kish skill respec and 59K+ gold now. All I sold so far was junk and items I made with gathered materials and materials I get from deconstructing drops I get.

Do I need more ? Nope, not really... I'm more then happy at the moment.

PS : for those that still might not now... you can add 1 inventory slot for 250 gold everytime you feed your horse by giving it carry cap food. (Hence my 94 slot inventory)

The statement "if you put enough monkeys behind enough typewriters... sooner or later one will produce the works of Shakespeare" has sadly been proven utterly wrong by the internet...
