Minor creatures, how come?

So I can kill minor creatures like rabbits, rats, squirrels, spiders, just to name a few, and loot them for guts, used in fishing. How come I can't kill any freaking cats??? Is there some kind group like PETA in game protecting them or do the Devs just like cats? I demand that cats be nerfed!

I see this question come up often enough I don't think it's even a joke. There's some seriously disturbed people out there.

I see nothing wrong with killing these useless creatures. Killing humanoid NPCs is fine but killing some stupid animals is not?

Well, there is a reason to kill thos humanoid NPC's. They did bad things or they attacked you. What did the squirrel do to you?

I killed a chicken the other day. Not a single NPC blinked an eye. Think it was in Glenumbra. I need to try it in the Rift and see what happens.

Well I am not sure the NPC's I am killing see it that way, from their standpoint I am the evil one. As for the minor creatures I am killing I do it for a purpose, I need their guts so I can catch other minor creatures, fish. Its the Circle of Life you know. So I ask why are cats so special to be spared?????

This reminds me of The Legend of Zelda where you could punch chickens and at some point all the chickens came to beat you up real bad. There was justice in these days :D

I don't see why cats/dogs should be protected.

Then again I don't see much reason to kill them either. Same with snakes and squirrels. Whatever floats your boat though, I suppose. I stopped being surprised at this topic when I found a Skyrim mod to allow killing of children.

Doesn't really seem like a gamebreaking issue though. You can already kill 99% of NPCs outside cities, isn't that enough?

They need the cats so they can use their guts for bow strings.

Sarenia, you are either missing my point or you are a cat lover. I don't kill sheep, snakes, spiders, deer, rabbits, squirrels, rats for the fun of it, well ok maybe rats, I kill them for their guts because I need guts to fish. My question is why are cats, or for that matter dogs exempt from my need for guts?

It's the same reason why people eat beef, pork, chicken and not cat- and dogmeat. Cat's and dogs are pet's and to cute to be harmed. Any other animal is free to be eaten (if it's not too small or too "dirty" like rat's) or to be killed for fun. That's how it it whether it makes sense or not :)

I've never intentionally killed a single lvl 1 creature and yet I still end up selling loads of guts and worms to the merchants everytime I clear out my inventory.

first sign of a serial killer starts with small animals....and they tend to be bed wetters.

That was in the old days. The internet added a third step to serial killer eveolvement:

    1) Killing digital animals
    2) Killing real animals
    3) Slaughter entire villages

LOL, someone clicked an squirrel in wow and was sad then it killed it.

I was in some vehicle killing elites and enjoying myself then I got problem, I drew agro from an rabbit and could not target it from vehicle neither exit while "in combat" luckily some elite attacked me so I almost killed it, then let it destroy the vehicle so I was exited and then killed it.
    Then I killed the rabbit.

On the bright side you can be killed by veteran mudcrabs in ESO, I want to find where the mudcrabs level :)

Because cats have dignity and people do not have dignity. That is why. Also my cat is very offended at you right now. She'll be voicing her concerns later once she has finished licking her butt and living in boxes.

Yes. Peta only like the cute animals. Thats what the "Pet" part of their name stands for.

That's culturally driven. Different animals are pets or food depending on where you go.

In this day and age, our video games still shackle us with their views of what is food? Have we not as mankind progressed beyond the biasef societal notions of normal? May we not be free to decide for ourselves which animals we wish to gut for fish bait and which we don't?

I hope one day all animals will be seen as equally deserving to die, man included.

I was in some kind of.tombs, fighting Draugrs and at one group I somehow accidently managed to target and charge at a spider while there were 3 Draugrs in front of it with some small space between them. I hate spiders and I think the game knows this. It was hilarious.
