Intermittent game crashes. I've tried several checks on hardware & software. Need help to diagnose!

Hello all,

I need some help diagnosing intermittent game crashes. I think it might have something to do with my sound card but I'm not sure. I'm using an HT Omega Claro Plus that I bought in 2011

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829271003

I went to their website to make sure that I had the latest driver and it appears that the last driver that was released for this unit was dated 10/23/2009?!

My video driver is up to date of course. Some of my system specs from DXdiag are:

-Windows 7 Home premium 64-bit
-Intel Core i7-2600KCPU @ 3.4GHZ (8CPUs) This is stock speed
-6384MB RAM
-DirectX Version: 11
-Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 - 4095MB memory @1920x1080 335.23 Driver (Latest)

Also I should mention that I have had 2 BSOD since installing ESO and it gave the standard 0x00000001A general error. I ran Memtest on each memory stick separately and they all passed. I reseated the memory firmly .

I'm playing World of Tanks, Diablo 3 and Hearthstone on occasion and I have no problems when those games are running.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks,
Uncle Mo

Any disturbing noises etc when you're crashing?

I've heard of sound cards that go dodgy and cause problems with your system.

Uninstall the driver of your HT Omega Claro and also physically remove this card from your motherboard and then try run the game.

If problem persists you can at least rule out the sound card.

If it fixes you can atleast use your mobo's on board sound for the time being till you get a replacement.

Found this... same sound card as you.

    Remove it and test lol

Okay. Realtek is in control. Let's see what happens.

Sometimes you can have problems with Latency theres a software that has helped me in the past, google DPC Latency Check. This little program will let you diagnose if you have a problem with high latency which usually happens when two devices are struggling for processing cycles. The website where you download that also has some tips to get rid of this problem (in case that this is your issue).

I am still getting client crashes even with motherboard audio drivers. I'll try your solution Vordar. Thanks for posting it.

Vordar I have used the DPC Latency Check as you suggested. It is 'all green' during these crashes.

Looking for a DEV response please.

Just disable your soundcard and use the onboard card. The onboard should be a Realtek sound chip, which works perfectly fine for games. Just make sure to grab the newest driver version for your Mainboard.

As you already did this, try a BIOS update.

You are running the 2600k, maybe your BIOS doesn't fully support the CPU yet or your GPU. It would help knowing your mainboard manufacturer ;)

As example, many new AMD cards like the 280x can require a BIOS update to work properly, while I don't use Nvidia cards that often it might be a similar issue.

Did you build the PC or did you upgrade specific parts recently?

The 0x00000001A is typical for memory, but can also be caused due wrong drivers which try to communicate with a wrong cache address. Besides that, it could be an issue with the VRam or CPU cache and not only your basic memory.

The mobo is an ASrock P67 Extreme4 LGA 1155

I'll take a look at the bios I suppose. I built this tower myself and I haven't made hardware changes in years....other than the video card.

    Here's the CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115070

A link to the BIOS download. There seems to be a required BIOS update to run the Ivy Bridge, but my CPU is a Sandy Bridge and the BIOS was able to run this chip from the first (1.10) iteration.

You got a good mainboard I use a very similar one ;) I still run the old BIOS on it and don't have any issue´s, but I also use a 2500k and an older AMD card.

Another thing you could try is turning of Sata Aggressive link power management in your BIOS settings. While it shouldn't have an impact, I know of people who turned it off and got rid of their BSOD.

Thanks for that Audigy. I've updated to the latest BIOS for this board (3.1). I'll give it a go and see if the client crashes stop. I'm willing to entertain the possibility that my video card needed an updated BIOS to run properly, but it's worked flawlessly with other games. Perhaps ESO uses some functionality that my other games do not.

Can be a power supply problem too, some days ago I plugged in my plasma tv on the same multiple socket my computer is connected to, it was not a good idea to me, I had the same crash as you, the card was not enough powered while playing and it was resetting and causing client crash

Maybe your power supply is too short, or the multi socket you connect it to is maybe busy

The power supply specs are more than adequate for this GPU and if there really was a power problem, I would expect there to be problems when I play other games, which there isn't.

Have you also tried setting eso to run in compatability mode for XP SP3? I'm using windows 7 and was getting crashes till i did that.
  • Turhapuro

This might be a bit far fetched solution, but I had serious stability issues with ESO and I did every stability test there are, 3D etc and nothing was wrong with my PC.
I had long and thorough discussion with CS and nothing worked.
Then my friend suggested I try to remove mem sticks from my motherboards dual channel slots.
Not a single crach or glitch after I tried that.

On a side note every other game I have have had no problems with Dual Channel memory (mem mapping?) but for some reasons known only to deities ESO doesn´t like that type of memory at all. At least for me..

Unusual solution Moon449. How does one do that?

Turhapuro, if the game doesn't support dual channel memory, which is a technology that has been existence for years, my solution is to cancel my sub. I have done the same thing with World of Tanks that can't utilize multi-core processors. It's f****** 2014 for f**** sake.

Both of these solutions are unacceptable and I'd rather just quit the game. Appreciate the posts very much though! Pluses to you both.

Right click your launcher, go to properties, go to the compatability tab and there will be a compatability mode option, turn it on and select windows xp (service pack 3) from the drop down box.
