Abandoned Quest - Cannot Restart It

So I'd run into a problem with Moonless Walk, the quest that you do before getting to the Ayleid King in Coldharbour. I abandoned it, and restarted it by going to the Groundskeeper. Got the quest, ran to the marker, and... can't start it. The backpack sits there, taunting me, and does not give the quest when I click on it.

I was told that this would be fixed with the next hotfix, but it looks like a fix or patch was deployed today. I have other things I can do in the game, but this is kind of the big bottleneck at the moment.

Does anyone have a workaround or a solution? Mind, I've already abandoned and retaken the quest again without luck. Thanks in advance!

Some quests give items (in your inventory) and when you delete the quest they do not correctly delete the item from your inventory and this stops you from picking it up again. I can't remember if this quest gives you an item from the backpack, but its worth checking your inventory quest tab.

Huh... I don't know, but it's worth checking. Thanks for the advice!

I did the same thing. I abandoned this quest and now I can't seem to get it back. Did you get it to work by any chance?

Edit: I contacted support through the in-game system and the issue was resolved.
Apparently this is a large type of quest (The Moonless Walk), in which there are 3 quests altogether.

I finished the first part of the quest and then abandoned it during the second. However, the quest marker for The Moonless Walk shows throughout the large quest (at the backpack) so I thought that this was the location I would get the quest. The second part of the quest begins where the Lamia and Bosmer are together and a choice is to be made.

The following is a speculation based on personal experience and some hints from ZO support.

There are 2 systems in this game that are supposed to work together: the phasing system and the quest system.
However, they are very picky about working together. And often get out of sync. Abandoning quests is a very easy way of making them go out of sync.

If you are very unlucky, you'll get right back into sync. However most of the time, one of the systems will refer to it cache and you'll be stuck. Questing system things you are not on the quest, but the phasing system shows you the phase that you are supposed to see when you already have the quest.

Now, one of those systems has a local cache. Meaning it is on your computer. To reset it, you need to close the game and wait for 15 minutes. If you don't wait long enough, the game is just going to recover the cache and you'll be back where you started.

The other system seems to have its cache on the server side. There seems to be no way to reset it. Not even support can do it. The only way to get "invalid" information out of that cache is to fill it with other info. To do that, you need to quest in other areas.

I've experienced this several times. I abandoned Volenvell quest and was unable to get it back. Nothing seemed to help. They even installed a couple patches while i was waiting. Nothing.
Then I just quested for a couple days and as a lvl 45 I was able to pick that quest up again.

    Thanks for the input, all,

Unfortunately this was never/not yet resolved. I've logged off several times, gone to other areas several times, and gone back to Coldharbour and not been able to get the quest again. However claudosan makes an interesting point. I'll go running up towards the lightless oubliette and see if they're there for me to pick it up. Thanks very much, and I'll let y'all know what happens.

    I think it's been resolved!

When I logged in last night, I found that the quest had been abandoned. I ran back to the Groundskeeper and got the quest -- it completed the other parts automatically. I still couldn't pick up the contents of the bag, but I went to the Lightless Oubliette, and lo and behold, the Bosmer was standing there with a quest icon over her head.

I took the quest, followed through, and have completed it. Yay!

So the lesson appears to be, don't trust the 'meta quests' or 'container quests' in the journal, and be aware that quests are chopped up into different parts, and those parts may be far from where the container quest is telling you to go.

Thanks very much for all the suggestions!
