Companions That Do Nothing

Hey all :3 Hey, Mods :3

I've noticed recently that any time I do the Main Quest and I either have to take Lyris or choose to take Lyris with me, she either very rarely or never fights at all.

When I did Halls of Torment, I took Lyris with me hoping that she would be a nice beefy meatshield and my NB could sneak around and do some nice criticals. Throughout the entire time while fighting her doppelganger, all she did was stand there without drawing her weapon and the boss would not focus on her, either. It was like she was just there to witness my demise XD

I just hit level 40 and intend to go back and try that level 30 quest again, hoping that I can beef my way through it, but I'm wary of taking Lyris with me again. I noticed her do this on several other occasions, and every so often when a quest forces you to have a companion, it's a 50/50 shot as to whether or not that person joins in on the fight. I've noticed it mainly with Lyris, however, and I don't know if that makes a difference or not. Perhaps I'll take Tharn with me next time XD

Has anyone else experienced this? Are there any known fixes?

The only thing I can suggest is poke doppelganger with a low agro attack or body agro it. Then run towards Lyris and away. If she isn't painting her nails she may take a swing and take agro. Once she has Agro she warms up a bit while getting her hair done, but she "should" pop the dop now and then.

Took me about 12 minutes to finish that part of the quest in mid 30's after a few deaths trying to figure it out. However I have the advantage of Templar heal, so make sure obviously you have some good healing pots

    G'luck, I know its stressful!

This will happen thru the rest of your story quests. Just plan on solo'ing everything.

Cool, I'll try that this time and maybe when she's done primping she'll actually act on some of those empty threats she makes XD Thanks!

Bleh. Well, at least I know. Since respeccing I'm a bit better at soloing so hopefully it shouldn't be too bad. Thanks!

First Devs don't answer, so best addressing the Mods and asking them to send to the Devs, not even sure any of the Devs read the forums, it might be all relayed via the Mods.

Second, yeah, most of the companions don't do much. In fact only a few actually attack for me, with notable exception one mission for Aldmeri Dominion were troops you save, team up with you and you end up with ten troopers mashing two or three enemies at once :D
But they really do need to fix the AI for companions.

Tharn is actually pretty useful. Lyris really does space out all the time.

Even on the Sinmur boss fight in The Rift all three companions stood still and let Sinmur beat the crap out of them. Never realized how lazy the Skald King could be! Making me 1v1 Sinmur  not cool

This. I just did a V5 story quest in Rift last night where you have three followers and you go into a Barrow to take on a GIANT group of enemy NPCs (at least 10). At V5, fighting 2 or 3 people is hard. YEP, the three followers barely swung a weapon. I had to kite kill literally everything. Was incredibly annoying.

Not a single companion I've seen has stayed alert for an entire fight.

    Another broken mechanic.

Mebbe I'll give him a shot, even if he is a jerk ;)

Ew, not cool; glad you made it through, though!

yeah Tharn works, and there is one guy in an EP instanced quest in Stonefalls who broke a quest because he used to stop fighting the big bad bone badguy... I think they fixed him by hand, and didn't fix the AI in general. So he's ok too... everyone else not so much...

Anyone know if healer NPC's will actually heal? I'm parked outside of a quest (forget name) where I can chose a Fighter, Mage or Healer. I'm a tank so hoping a healer has a better grip on whats needed in combat

Well companions do seem to love to go up and hit whichever mob I have bothered to root. They love to break CC.

I've been healed by a healing NPC before. I don't think they fight anything though and you can't rely on them healing at the moment you actually need. It did provide help to my own healing though. Your call if you want to take the chance.

Thanks I'll give it a shot

It really is too bad that scripted harvesting Chinese bots have better AI than the NPC's lol!

Glad I am not the only one! Lyris just stands back letting me die time after time! Like she gets some sort of cheap thrill out of it. Kinky.
