Bookshelves no longer giving skill points?

I looked through about 50+ bookshelves last night and not one skill leveled up.
Before the last patch I would have at least got a couple. This was in Coldharbour.
Anyone else notice this since the patch or was I just very unlucky.

Well , if you want to test this , just make a new char and go to the mages guild , if you get nothing there with a new char , then they removed it.

Being a vet2 now , i still check all the bookcases , but yeah , i never really lvl anything because of it heh.

Are you sure you haven't just found most of the skill books already? There's a limited number, and they only work once.

I haven't noticed any problems and @driosketch makes a good point. Do you have another, low level, character to test this on?

I think you have just reached the point of having read all the skill related books. There is a limited number.

I got a couple of skill level ups from bookcases just last night as a level 18, so it seems to be working at the lower levels.

Once I got vet, I haven't received 1 skill from bookcases. I thought maybe it was just because...that's the way it is?

I gave up trying to figure things out.

    Is it:
    Bugs? 20%
    Nerf? 10%
Who cares, the games broke? 70%

Books give experience, not levels. You still get experience for new books you find, but now that you are a higher level the amount of experience to raise your skills is much greater. Hence you won't get a level from books very often at all.

Edit - If you have an experience tracker add-on you can see it.

This might be the case for me. I haven't leveled up a skill by reading a bookshelf in a long time, and I read every book shelf I find.

In my experience books give levels. I tested this to be specific with a crafting skill. Before reading book I was lvl 22 and 42% after book 23 and 42%. Would be a lot of coincidence if that book would have given me the exact amount to achieve this.

Also you can notice that if you are 1 in a skill they only push you to 2.

But there is a limited amount of skill books in game. If you unlocked the eidetic memory you can see there are only 82 skill books throughout the game.

You see the experience because of the mechanic used to bump the level. When you find a book that will level a skill, the system levels it by calculating and awarding exactly enough experience to bump it a full level.

I've managed to level up on the same bookshelves over and over. It seems the bookshelves reset over time. Plus, bookshelves in areas around your level or higher seen to provide better skill exp. If you read the stories, you will find that the same stories are told over and over again.

Just a note to point out you can read bookshelves extremely quickly. Just hit your 'use' key and immediately leave for the next one. I can scam up a stack of them in seconds. The read is essentially instant.

Just today. Hit one bookshelf, got increases on three skill levels. That I find odd. I don't think they did that before. Otherwise overall, the bookshelves have been working for me as expected. My high level character in lower level locations isn't getting skill increases out of bookshelves.

I got skill levels all the way up to VR1. I was on my alt templar and still got some skill ups from bookshelves.

But as for the VR content I'm pretty sure they didn't bother adding that in kinda like how provisioning mats and food are super low levels.

The book shelf that give exp sometimes don't give enough to 'ding' you but they still give exp to a set skill line, so unless you have the add-on which shows you how much exp you have in each skill line, it appears to do nothing.

Get the add-on and you will see they are still working. They are still working for me in V1-V10 zones

I've seen those a few times on alts. They seem to give +1 to all 3 of your class skill lines.

Pretty sure I read somewhere there is a max amount of levels you can get from books per skill. 4 or 5 was it? So if you maxed the number you are done.

This has nothing to do with it.

Once you hit VR1, if you've been obsessively reading every book, you won't have many left that actually grant skill experience. If you do read a book that grants skill experience, it may not grant enough for you to level up in that skill, because now your skills need more XP to get that boost.

No. But you may want to try reading what I said again.

There is no limit to the amount of skill XP you can get from books. There is, however, a limited number of books.

    So yes, you did.

Your third sentence adds additional information, but your second is what I said.

Think of it this way, we both said there is a limited number of books per skill you can use.

Ok, let me break this down for you as simply as possible:

There is no limit on how much skill experience you can receive from reading books. I never said there was, and I never will say there is.

There are only so many books in the game at present. Once we get Craglorn, I'd imagine more books will be added, and more will be added in future content updates and expansions. Which is something entirely different.

I think you may need to reread. I never said anything about skill experience. I merely said I was trying to remember if there were 4-5 books per skill and thought there was enough for 4-5 levels. You said as much with 'Once you hit VR1, if you've been obsessively reading every book, you won't have many left that actually grant skill experience'

I really have no idea what you are arguing about.

To simplify, the OP said they didn't have a single skill level up. I said there was a max you can get (there is only so many books which I said I thought was 4-5) per skill.

    You turned around and said

'Once you hit VR1, if you've been obsessively reading every book, you won't have many left that actually grant skill experience. '
