Dropped From Server For Excessive Message Send Rate

Just got the new update on the NA server, started playing and moving around. Gathered a few jute and iron then got kicked for the "Excessive Message Send" code. WTH?? I don't send messages first of all so what if we gather too many items as we move along now we get kicked? There is horrible lag and maybe that is all this is from since you have to hit "E" a few times to even get the game to take it. I hope that is all this is because I don't abuse the system. Support feel free to check any of my toons if in doubt.

Hmm... maybe this is a new change to help fight bots/spammers? If so, seems like there may be a flaw if it's that easy for a real player to get caught up in it...

Nothing to do with the update. I have been getting this for the past week and half on EU server. It's happened in both PvE and PvP. It says dropped for excessive spam even though i wasn't even typing or sending any mail at all. I did notice however this always happens when the server starts to have a few lag spikes.

Yeah it upsets me because I don't abuse things and this toon is my blacksmith toon so when the server came up I went out got some iron, found three chests and some jute moving around. Then when I went to grab another jute after killing some wolves, I got kicked. I did notice when I came up on the jute the "E" would not work so I hit E like three times because the lag is so bad right now. Maybe this is for the bots and won't be an issue when the lag goes away. I hope that is all this is.

The NA server is horrible after the update with lag. You can't even use a bench right now as the E command won't work. Thanks for the replies. I will be the first to report bots and abuse so when I saw this it did upset me. Thanks again

I'd guess that with the current server lag problem, your commands are getting held up and then all sending at once, and the server thinks you're spamming commands.

Same thing just happened to me. To my knowledge, I wasn't messaging at all when it happened. I want ZOS to be aggressive about the bots, but I'd also like to play, ya know.

It also occurs to me that bots would suffer less from this sort of technical (non-)fix than players. Something of a theme with the anti-gold-spammer & anti-bot changes of late. The botters and the spammers seem to end up suffering the least. After all a macro doesn't give a rip if it has to relog.

Same here. I don't send messages. I got killed by a boss and got kicked with that warning about not spamming messages. Talk about adding insult to indignity! LOL.

The lag is horrible. Just tried to play and kill a simple wolf. One swing of my dagger, wait five seconds then it actually swings rinse and repeat. People are warping everywhere and you can't even make armor. I created a belt and it took 10 seconds for it to actually create it and release the command so I could make something else.

It's the lag. Your client is sending mouse clicks and other information to the laggy server which it gets all at once and it looks like spamming to the server and kicks you. You did nothing wrong. Once they fix the lagginess you won't be kicked

Glad to hear that others are having the same issues. They have a message they are working on it. Just freaked me out I was like WTH did I do?

As far as I know there are two reasons for good ol' 318:
1. Lag. People have already explained how and why.
2. Keyboard/mouse macro software. In my case it's Logitech Gaming Software that's causing the game to kick me everytime I am sprinting on my mount while using Push To Talk (a mouse button bound to Numpad 0). Some people fixed it by finding out they had accidentally told the software to repeat a command once every 25 ms, I fixed it by never sprinting and using the mouse PTT at the same time.

you should /feedback this. They probably need to tweak the system a bit to allow normal operations and still kick bad guys

Getting this every few minutes. Pretty sure it's related to the lag that's so bad I can't even fight a single VR mob.

I had this issue since early access (never in Beta). At first I filed a bug report and as soon as I identified what it was that made me 318 I told them that as well. I have a 100% success rate with replicating the kick, and it rarely takes more than 20-30 seconds if I do everything right. I offered to share screen or record a video, but so far I had nothing but generic responses. I have faith in that it's been stored somewhere in an overworked and overstressed QA's ToDo list and will get looked into in time.
