The whole idea of 'overcharged stats' is that trying to improve them gives you diminishing returns, it makes much more sense to try and improve other stats.

But still, for example I craft an armor set for my DK every 4-6 levels and I very rarely bother repairing, unless a piece is harder to create anew than to repair (blue, purple). In that case I don't care that when I get my new armor set my armor value is overcharged. I know that in a couple levels and with damaged equipment it won't be overcharged until I use a my armor buff.

As for all the other stats I prefer to balance them out so that nothing is overcharged.

Well considering I got the armor stat overcharged (343) in a lvl 8 DK with 4 pieces of crafted heavy armor (whites), 1 medium lvl 6 green, 1 light lvl 6 green, 1 heavy lvl 6 green, 1 shield lvl 6 green.

The same in another character got magicka overcharged even without a single attribute point in it and with trash equipment.

It's not like I'm overcharging stats on purpose, the "soft" caps are broken.

<cough> play the way you want to play <cough>

On low levels for DK your armor will almost always be overcharged (unless armor is broken). I would suggest not using so many pieces of heavy, just one or two and get more medium instead for stamina regen bonuses (or light for magicka regen if you want a magicka-based build). You'll still be able to overcharge armor with spiked armor and with extra stamina you'd be able to block/evade more (and hence take less damage in the end) or with extra magicka you'll be able to utilize damage-dealing abilities more and hence burn mobs quicker and again take less damage in the end  .

The caps are level based and are very low for low levels. A full set of heavy armor (with passives) and a shield will keep you at the beginning of the soft cap into Veteran.

I have 1600 something armor at Vet 1. It shows as soft capped. I checked, I'm losing ~25 armor from my shield (which has 150 armor). Taking off my shield removes the "overcharged" status. I can get up over 2000 armor with buffs, but that seems to be approaching a hard cap, as it's a +1750 armor buff and I'm only getting ~400 armor from it.

I've never hit the softcap on attributes. I frequently hit it on health regen, but then I am in heavy armor with a ton of bonuses to that stat. That basically just frees me up to get stam/mana regen.

It doesn't seem broken at all to me. It discourages stacking one stat in every way possible, and thus gimping yourself in other areas. The diminishing returns aren't that bad until you get very high, so if you really want that extra few points you can get it.

If this were a single player game, soft caps would make no sense at all. For a multiplayer game it does wonders for game balance. Otherwise these forums would have 100 times as much "this is way to over powered" noise in it. Speaking of which, there at least a dozen other threads in this forum about soft caps. Did we need another one?

at VR 6 using green armor, full heavy set and shield my base armor before any buffs is 2100, buffed it goes up to bout 3000. I push my armor as hard as i can because i tank for my duo partner and I in vet content, and it is needed in vet content, we do also duo the bosses as well tho.

I don't mind overcharging stats that are important to me at all. Unlike some, I won't just pump stuff into health to avoid overcharage - I'd only buff health if I found myself getting killed a lot and felt health would actually solve that issue (chances are, it won't).

The only problem with your 3K armor is that you are over the VR10 hard cap of 2600 (50% damage reduction). A single point over hard cap is completely useless as it adds no benefit whatsoever. That said, when you say fully buffed you're likely referring to short term class passive buffs (like the 4-60 second ones) that activate when you use X ability and there isn't much you can do about that.

As far as "Overcharged" in ESO it's just regular old DR, or Diminishing Returns and it's a needed stat balancing act in MMOs. The good thing is ZoS is capping just about everything at 50% so nobody will be uber OP against this or that just by stacking armor or resist, etc. Hell I like the fact that even damage output has a cap on it. And with a Health soft cap (no known hard cap as of yet?) tanks won't just WTF spam Health like in some MMO's, they'll actually have to balance out their gear for mitigation.

But from where do you have your infos about that fact that 2600 is hard cap for armor? @DeLindsay‌

http://tamrielfoundry.com/2014/03/tanking-primer/ mind you this isn't the only place I've seen that said the exact same thing, 2600 hard cap (50%) for armor. Also a Guild member found a post on Reddit that was different that had the same results. People have been doing testing of builds, specs, caps, damage output, etc since late Beta builds and into Live.
