I actually wanted to buy and play at launch, but gritted my teeth and waited for a bit so I would not have problems like this. Finally made the jump and installed last night and started to play today. Absolutely no problems all day then tonight lag spikes and disconnects. The disconnects came closer together as the evening wore on till it became unplayable.
I will give it a rest tonight and try again in the morning, (I am on my days off), hope to see an improvement.

@Perseas: of course things can happen, of course maintenance are needed and so on... but look at the whole picture. In all this time I am playing ESO (incl the early access), I couldn't play for more than 2 hours without problems and more often I couldn't play at all. These trouble are beta trouble and don't belong in a paying game!

I played wow from day 2. It was like that, every 2 days we had problems. WoW is more than 10 years mature now.

This is always what happens when they release too early. Diablo 3 did, BF4 did it and so on. But seriously if you they can't fix something as basic as logins what is the point? It's like I just took 80$ wiped my bum with it, dropped it on the floor, and set it aflame.
  • mattias.snakeb16_ESO
Started getting this about an hour and a half ago, before I only had one second lag, now im getting huge spikes.

Logged off now because it's unplayably bad. Try fix this quick please @ZOS_TristanK‌
  • BlitzkriegAngel
Matt they aren't gonna do anything. The dev's don't read this just moderators who have 0 power to fix anything. We're screwed out of playtime untill tomorrow's patch I bet.

guys relax, its a networking problem and it happens all the time. We may even have a server reboot.

The only thing I wish them to fix, is the automated suspension, that many people report. They must at least, make this system reporting to the technicians or stuff, so they can investigate before that happens, because that scares me. There is another topic with wrongly messaging problem and suspension with a quest. A fresh topic. Maybe it is related with the problem we got as well.

It is this kind of attitude that holds the MMORPG industry from truly excelling.

When people are fine paying for a broken product, broken content becomes a norm.

Same here. Terrible lag and died countless time with one quest because of it.
  • harvester100b16_ESO
seems the servers are coming down is this gonna be to put patch forward or just to fix the problems weve all been having
  • BlitzkriegAngel
Patch notes are already up for 1.0.6 but my guess is instead of fixing anything they'll just break more. It was less buggy in beta and at launch than it is now.

Works for me ima get some sleep, all you guys worried about losing a couple hours should probably take a break anyway.

Go n empty your bucket before you get nappy rash. :D

Also what makes you think devs don't read what people have to say about their game?
Or did you mean they just won't reply for a public blasting from a load of idiots who don't know anything about anything especially how long it might take to fix a bug with even a known cause? Because I wasn't expecting a reply...

It's the same in every MMO Matt. The dev's rely on the information passed from Moderators whose knowledge level definitely varies from Mod to Mod. It's a giant game of Telephone. and may I also point out that DICE and Gearbox are the only companies that actually pay attention to their forums and provide information frequently? And it gearboxes case occasionally trolls their customers.

Wow... all these guys who are worried about these 'couple' hours are just awake and want to play before going at work? or after? Have you played this game and do you realise it is not about a 'couple' hours were we are talking about?

I just get hit by it before server message that it is going to maintenance stop come up it was 2 minute message so it must be something very urgent.

Before this i got a long walking over game without anything interactible (basically you walk in your computer client without connection to server) then i relog and got a message that i was disconnected because of excessive messaging and i didnt sent a ONE message in meantime!

Well thankyou for your informed description of how things work in Zenimax's offices and what the developers do in their spare time. I never would have got that without being there firsthand, or at least watching them.

I certainly could make some assumptions though, I must not play many MMO's...

the ones talking about a couple of hours have most likely have the option to play 24/7 and dont mind downtimes to tend to their basic needs for a few hours, they can not relate to someone with fulltime job and family who loses ALL of their playtime due to a game being unavailable.
  • RickDangerous42
I got the same thing. I tried a traceroute to the servers I were connected to (they seem to be 198.20.200.* if you check with netstat -a), and my latency is 230ms, which is normal. What seems to be happening is a lot of messages are generated on the client, but buffered. Something is stuck. Then they are sent in bulk to server, which then kicks you out for spamming. If each message had a timestamp they should be able to tell that there was a "jam", and that the client really didn't send all those messages at the time the server perceives them (I am a distributed systems developer, see this all the time). Hopefully the server restart just now will fix it. Otherwise it might be what EVE got not so long ago, a nice little DDOS attack clogging up the network...

I see alot of your comments and most of them I disagree with, the staff are doing things, you have to be patient.

Also if you can tell me what mmo has released better than this one has, please do, this is the best released mmo i have seen, I've seen games being unplayible for months before being stable enough.

Yeah sorry dude, guessin it is different taking a couple of hours of not playing when it's not the time you sleep or work. Guess they'll have to put off fixing it so you can just play it as is.
  • RickDangerous42
@ZOS_TristanK‌ are you using virtualized hardware? I sometimes see this kind of "hickup" on servers using heavily virtualized hardware, as the VM flushes disks and whatnot. The VM just hangs (this is on VMWare btw). Network messages cannot be received and you'd get the kind of behaviour we just saw while playing.

Yeah I only get to play for 3-4 hours a day tops so it is literally the end of the world when I have to miss 2 days of playing in a row, devs might as well stop making the game and keep everyones money now I quit... xD

    Hello,

It happened to me twice in less than 20 minutes. I can walk in the world, but my character cannot cast spells, cannot mount, cannot loot, the enemies stay still, dont attack me...

I have to relog again and again... The relog works, thats the funny part. My internet is fine...it is the game.

Wow this happens to me regularly i thought it was a feature in ESO..

suggestion is, drop your team working on Craglorn, fix the current situation with bugged quests and server stability by optimizing the Network Coding, then start working on future content.
Because the guys who work on world building, quest scripting and texture creation (among other aspects of zone creation) are the same people that are networking and server hardware experts.

    LOL?

Perseas when they are screwing up worse than Blizzard did it goes beyond a simple networking problem. If it were simple networking then it would not be kicking out multiple error codes. Someone screwed up big on server side programming. Probably the authentication database. Especially if they have started issuing more suspensions/bans ... we all know how successful they were last time.
I do love armchair internet experts ability to talk from where the sun doesn't shine about things they know nothing about and have no involvement in .. do you happen to know anyone like that?
