Veteran Armor colours... what a reward...

so far every piece of veteran armor i craft or see on other people looks worse than level 10 armor due to the dull colouring. at level 50 i was getting pure gold sets with awesome trims and vibrant colour. now im vet 1 all armor is dull grey to brown. hell i even made most of it epic and it looks like crap! and sicne daedric armor is still colourful it makes it very hard to match other pieces to it. when does the armor start looking good again cuz this is freaking stupid.

I agree, this game should not have launched with players being able to "dye" the gear color. Horrible forced colors.

Lol dude I feel your pain, I have a Veteran Rank 2 Nightblade in full green Imperial medium armor...it's a *** brown. I rolled another character, a Dragonknight who is now level 18. A full set of level 18 heavy imperial armor looks WAY cooler. Hell when my character was level 8 his armor looked better than my V2s.

Whoever had armor design sucks a fat one
  • aarut23b14a_ESO
Yup, right there with ya. Heavy armor, gold with silver trim and an awesome hood to match... now I'm V2 and everything is grey.... just grey. I look like an unfinished model.

They need to allow "SKIN" changes, so you can make V10 armor that looks like any skin level 1-50-V10 that you know. Then we would not all look the same at V10 (which is a stupid look anyway)

Yeah, sometimes armour colours are just hideous. IMO it's worst shortly before VR - ebony is black and glossy, not gold!

We will be able to dye our armor eventually, according to the latest Reddit's AMA.
This will solve most of the issues we all have with character customization, I hope.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

Have to agree... somewhat. Just reached VR10 and decided I'd craft myself some new armour.

Here's VR10 Imperial heavy armor. The one in the left is unupgraded (white) and the one on the right is upgraded to a mix of superior (blue) and epic (purple).

Now, this is probably subjective, but the unupgraded version looks WAY better than the upgraded one. It has nice golden highlights while the other one is just pure washed out gray (silver, whatever)

    Something's wrong here.

Honestly I cant stand the gold look of the pre VR armors. But I cant stand flashy colors myself, I feel it detracts from the over all look.

    This has bothered me...a lot...

For instance, I like the Bosmer chest pieces. Some where around lvl 20 or so I came across a cuirass of nightmare set and it looked wicked (IMO of course). The set was a nice gark green and had brown trim. Very defined look all around, I of course out grew the set and had to craft some odd colored brown versions right up until I hit upper lvl40's...

I was excited to see the armor get better looking then I hit VR and everything is gray, yuck!

Thank god I got to find a V2 version of that same nightmare set (again in really cool colors that fit along my personal style/liking). I like it so much I dumped solvents into it so I could wear it past V2. Bad part about that is even though the armor hit points increased via improvement ...I think the pieces decay/take more damage/degrade much faster versus V4 ranked items when used against V4+ enemies but that's an issue for another discussion.

Not thrilled with the Vet colors but it sounds like we may have armor dye coming our direction...someday..
  • Obreck2b14_ESO
Yep, I'm pretty much hiding my characters in disguises until dyes(confirmed) and the ability to convert loot dropped gear into any unlocked racial motif(crosses fingers) are available.

Good news is disguises work everywhere. Bad news is there are so few currently and many like to change form every map switch as well as smear dirt all over your player.
2h weapons impossibly large to wield? Sure! Tight, creaky leather that inexplicably improves your stealthiness? Absolutely! Absurd, liability prone plate designs? So long as they're concealing and no molded chest then A-ok! Skimpy armor? THAT'S UNREALISTIC! <_<

I noticed that in lower lvls, too. Its like they mixed up the order of them. White looks like legendary quality and legendary like white lol

This is my major complain about cosmetics. I don't like blue, and there is no way to avoid it at the moment. I was really enjoying the look of Ancient Elf V2 light armour (dark green) and when I crafted a new V6 set it was all dirty blue. Heavy armour at least has clean bright blue colour, but why are the robes so dark and unpleasant?

I really hope that the introduction of dyes will solve such problems and offer us more choice. Even though there is no information on how those dyes will work: can we only select it when crafting? can we change the colour of existing item (crafted or world drop)? how easy will it be to unlock the dyes (we were told they are gated by achievements)?
    This is really depressing.

Is it upgraded armour (blue quality or higher)? Many, if not all, armour sets change their colour when upgraded. Ancient elf V6-V10 armour is pale green and orange, but once upgraded it gets dark brown mixed with blue colour. I would never predict such change without trying.

The colors in the upper right corner of each armor indicate the upgrade lvl. As you can see not upgraded daedric armor looks the best, but then ZOS got lazy and just didn't bother to add colors. Nobody would want to wear daedric v10 armor upgraded above green, right... oh wait....

Did not you read all the posts here?

This topic was started before the road map was published. Since then at least 4 different posters (5 including you) mentioned that dyes will be introduced. Many players are looking forward to that, and meanwhile we can share our sad experience with the present colour scheme.

Its with other styles and lower lvl ranges too. Its as if they mixed up the quality of cosmetics. White = gold trim and lots of details, green and up = ugly? Saw this with other armors too. Makes no sense.

While I really like armour design, I have to agree with you about quality. Even in MW it wasn't bodypaint.

Mmos do "bodypaint" to keep the shape of the body that some of you spent hours on designing and keep poly count down.

Eq2 replaces your chest with the breastplate, and after some testing my kerra beastlord grew breasts after putting a breastplate on as a result(cat people, females are fairly flat chested normally).

Make matters worse, I have some epic shots of a skeleton rigging error while mounted from my barbarian berserker.

Often the only things with models are helmets, shoulders, gloves belt and boots. And wow's belts have "solid" bits are are only particle effects and dont show on the armory paper dolls.

    TL;DR
Its a rendering performance thing mostly.

It goes from good, to better, to down-hill WTFLOL. In-fact, the last two are practically identical!
