All GM's have "Gamemaster" in there name. Normal players can't have that. So for example, a GM will be "Gamemaster Example"

How do you know this? Are you sure people can't use gamemaster in their name?

It's very simple. If a GM is being helpful, it is not a GM for ZOS. :D

Try creating a character called Gamesmaster Something.

    (Also, they glow blue).

They post in a system message. I would like to see a poser pull that off. That being said though, I haven't been able to whisper them. You can't click their name and when I try /w @name or just /w name, I get "account not found".

So idk what I'm missing here, but it kinda defeats the purpose when it's a hassle to reach them.

Creating a character with "Gamemaster" in it's name is something I would never do. Also, the GM characters don't look like ours. There appear in a ghostly form. And they won't be a level 1. You're just begging to get suspended (or worse).

How does the /w @name work for future reference? I always just right click and select whisper, and the first and last time I tried manually typing /w @name it didn't work. Is it @(account name) or @(character name)? This could be useful information for if I need to contact a GM. I've tried typing @(Character Name) but didn't work.

ZOS needs to do what Blizzard did, and put a little tag next to things that GM's say in chat. The same icon used for staff posters on the forums would work.

I want to note that Blizzard only implemented this after several years, and many GM impersonations.

Yeah, the system will need to be changed. It's possible to make a character called Gamemaster Zenimax and spawn straight into game. That will get abused for sure.

Not quite connected, but the other day I see a VR1 player (am vr2) who was a skeleton (type used for enemy’s) using a wayshrine, he then mounted his horse and rode off, then ~1h later I see the same named player still a skeleton in a totally different area across the map doing a dungeon, I can only assume other people were seeing him as a skeleton, as more than a few players tried to manually attack him before realising.

So I can only assume there must be some way to spoof characters, else it was just someone from the ESO team having a little fun or someone who has found a quest exploit where you are turned into a skeleton as part of the quest then have exited the quest area while retaining the skeleton look, if it’s the former it may not bode well if people could also spoof the ethereal character GM’s use.

I believe there is a costume you can get that changes you into a skeleton.

I've seen a few people in various places with it. And one time I saw a normal character change into a skeleton (and the character did the "putting on a costume" animation - so that's how I figured it was a costume).

I've whispered and gotten a whisper from an in game GM. I was very skeptical when I got a whisper from one of them so I was reluctant to anything they said to me, but alas, it was a GM afterall because they sent me a response to my open ticket right after our in game convo. This was just a @username that contacted me.

They need to display more GM powers in game when contacting players tho. Especially with account names broadcast everywhere in game and out....it'd be easy for any player to fake a GM contact. I didn't think it was a GM for almost our whole convo in game and even when done I didn't believe them till I got an email update for my ticket.

This is indeed true. I picked up this costume in ShadowFen and wear it religiously.

There was a report a couple days ago of someone phishing for login info with a "Gamemaster X" character name.

Wow. That just boggles my mind. How can they not have "Gamemaster" blocked in the naming system? That's just begging for abuse.

    Greetings!

Thank you all for your feedback. When you're not sure if a character claiming to be a game-master is actually a ZeniMax Online employee, file a report. Each report will be analysed by our team and, if necessary, we will take appropriate action. Please keep in mind that impersonation, including posing as ZOS employee when you are not, is not tolerated.

This one would like to add if such in Game Master asks you sensitive information, not to answer them.

Any possibility to block 'Gamemaster' or 'GameMaster' or any similar spelling in character creation?

@ZOS_JanS Not to state the obvious but ZOS could start by *not* letting people use the word Gamemaster in their character names.

Might be worth thinking about adding a filter ...

A real Gamemaster is level 50. Players cant be level 50, they pass from lv49 to veteran 1.

Also real Gamemasters wear a ghostly robe, they look like spirits, you can see trough them. So is very easy to see if a gamemaster is real or not. Also in the chat GMs use system messages to comunicate to the server.

So better to report anyone with name Gamemaster talking or walking around like a normal player.
