I think a large portion of people's negative opinions about ESO come from the slightly disjointed fusion between a single player experience, and an online one. A lot of critics have hit on the fact it seem like throughout the entirety of the game, it can never quite make up it's mind for which play style it rather present to the player.
Honestly - I DO play MMO's for the online inter-connectivity and interaction with others, but I play ES for "me" time.
A lot of people fear the game going F2P - or that ESO will lose scores of people before devs get a chance to fix most of the issues.... As for me, I'm staying.
I'm staying because I like ES. I like the ES lore. I love things like the esoteric Dunmer culture, the unique and varied gods and daedra; I love the role playing opportunities, I love the idea of actually seeing the lands I've been told about in previous ES games.
When everyone (or most everyone) is gone, I won't care. Not one bit.
I mean outside of group dungeons, and end game content (that I'll probably never touch anyway, given my MMO track record
), I haven't had much of a reason to group up with other players outside of RPing and trading items/mats.
MMO? Yes. ES Game? Sort of - but the makings are there. And at least until ES6 hits the scene, I'll be kicking it in ESO...
