Higher Levels Ruining Anchor Events

xramirez535b14_ESO
It doesn't happen all of the time but about 80% of the anchor events I've done there have been one or more level 30+ players one-shotting everything causing everyone to scramble to get one hit in. The only thing anyone really manages to get a guaranteed hit is on the last boss of these events. Is there a reason higher levels are doing these low level anchors or are they griefing?

Its for completing the whole area and exp in the undaunted fighters skill line.
I did all the missing anchors on vet lvl because I needed that exp and wanted to complete what I missed during my lvling.

Edit: Thanky forpointing out that mistake :)

I believe it would be for xp in the fighter guild line, undaunted you get xp for doing dungeons in.

You serious lol The anchors are just shite anyway, your not missing out on much. Lets see 10-20 players roll all the mobs in 0.1 second from when they land. After a few mins of destroying mobs in 0.1 seconds it ends and you get the worlds crappiest loot.

ZoS ruined the anchors well didn't even do them right in the first place, not high level players.

actually when there is no high lvl player and everyone is within the range of that anchor it takes 5-10 seconds per mob. i don't know what your smoking to make 5-10 seconds seem like less second.

As far as some saying they are very unrewarding, I agree but I've gotten two great weapons from them for the short amount of time it takes to complete one so I can't call that a waste of time especially since I had fun when a high level player wasn't around.

Exactly! Fights took a little longer and allowed for use of the active combat. I had to dodge, interrupt and use my abilities wisely. Then all of a sudden one of the bigger guys died before his animation finished when he landed. I understand now though why they're there. I wish people would have done it in the beginning but I guess eventually those high level players will thin out.

As a crafter trying to research item traits early the anchors are an invaluable source of weapons and armor that, while crappy in their own right, possess traits on pieces of gear not so common in the early going.

they are doing them to help level their char... and yes. its a given that an anchor will now be closed in 2-3 min or less due to the high lvls in there, which totally sucks for on level players.

if a player is overleveled for the event they should implement some sort of stat debuff on that player for the event like rift does, to prevent high lvls from one shotting the event and allow more time for others to partake.

as it stands now, unless an anchor drops on top of my head I dont bother traveling to one as it is a given it will be closed before I even get there, or even if I do partake I rarely get a hit in to count for the acheiv

When i had seen the trailer from ESO and the dark ancors i was amazed.
But doing them is so easy and often rewards nothing but map completion and exo for skill line.
I hope at V10 these ancors are hardcore group contend that needs a balanced mix of heals tanks and dps and pose a real threat.
I have a feeling this mechanic deserves much more then abit of exp as the animations of such anchors are jaw dropping eye candy :)

I feel sorry if you experience this type of griefing, but I can name at least one good reason for high level players to do low level anchors. I was doing that myself two days ago in the lvl7-30 areas while I am vr6 myself. The reason is - achievements. It just happened that when I was levelling there were not enough players to do these anchors. And honestly I did not even realise I will need them for anything. I learnt that only closer to lvl40 myself. Now I am working on my achievements and keep returning to earlier areas for the anchors/world bosses/public dungeon bosses. I do know how annoying it is when you can't even hit a mob, so when I saw that there were enough players apart from me I would just heal them, and maybe hit tougher elite mobs. Afterall I only needed achievements and you get those without much involvement in the fight.

I'm sorry, but OP, this thread is just embarrassing. There needs to be a new section of the forums for crying; toss this with the "The game is too hard!" and the whine threads that accused PvP leveling as exploiting (which later killed the option to even level in PvP) threads.

This isn't griefing - so just stop there and look in your achievements window. Now, notice how there are a wide range of achievements for Dark Anchors; realize that most of those players are probably going back to complete Dark Anchors that they skipped at lower levels, and they are trying to get achievements. There is literally no other point but that in going to lower level Dark Anchors.

Also, Dark Anchors themselves are jokes - they literally take a few minutes if even...are you telling us that shaving couple of seconds off ruined the game? Please....just stop, it's threads like this that will eventually ruin more portions of the game.

There really should just be a new server added for Hand-Holding...

What's funny is that you dismiss it by calling it crying or whining when its really an issue, maybe you're just not dealing with it but it doesn't change that fact and it seems you're alone in this thread. It's not the lower levels fault that others skipped the anchors on their way and are now unintentionally ruining the experience for the rest of us. Others before you have explained why higher levels are going back so thanks for re-iterating their replies in a dismissive manner I guess.

And you can tell higher levels how to play the game right? Get a clue. And that's funny too...because I see many other posters here with similar posts informing you about achievements and that those higher levels most likely skipped and are coming back. Struck a nerve?

I see higher levels go to Dark Anchors all the time, it changes nothing and means nothing. It's not my fault either that there are too many pansies here as well ready to cry at a moments notice and scream "unfair!" in TESO.

You can't force people to play a certain way, get over it and move on.

In City of Heroes giant monster events had creatures who's incoming damage would scale. So a 50th level character and a 1st level character could both participate. I'm not sure how the exact mechanics of it worked, and I know that a 1st level didn't do as much damage as a 50th level, but a 50th level couldn't just swoop in and wipe it out as his damage was scaled to the event.

Perhaps something like that would have been in order with these.

The anchors that I have done have been a variety of difficulty. Some of them are easy due to the number of players and their level. Others are not, for the same reason.

I am trying to determine if this is a widespread issue that lots of players will encounter, whether this is something that players will encounter based on the way they play the game, and whether this is something that is actually a problem.

I like the idea of ungrouped players joining forces for a few minutes but if the game is going to turn into gangs of VR10 running from dark anchor to dark anchor I could see where level-appropriate players might be put off.

Obviously, the much-hated phasing solves this, but I am coming to suspect that the phasing comes with a server-side performance hit and that ZOS may be reluctant to make more use of it.

All characters approaching the anchor are placed into one of two level-based phases. Those at or below the 'target' level get one phase. Those above the 'target' level get another. The latter can even have harder monsters, or more of them.

Yeah it's tough with a bunch of monsters. I just use Silver Bolts in cases like this as it's fast, drops the beast too. If I can get a lightning strike as well it's a slow day. ;)

My witch does Fissures by herself for mild entertainment. All my recent chars had Silver Bolts before starting the FG quest. Just go sign up and attend the Anchors for real quick FG level 2.

I wouldn't mind seeing a few MORE high levels around low-level anchors. They're tricky to do with a group of 2-3 people at level unless you are super uber (which I ain't), and my Kleenex-armor char has been avoiding them ... and then she found out it was the only effective way to get fighter's guild exp. (Oh, sure, you can kill daedra and undead - at 1 FG exp per kill.)

Send me a high-level char to help me with them, I don't care, as long as I get that fighter's guild cred so I can advance in their quest line! :p

[Besides, I've never ever gotten boss loot from an anchor. Never. Across several classes and zones. I think it's a myth.]

I chalk this sort of thing up to "short term problems." It's still just the first month of the game. There are going to be more people who missed doing these right now, because there are a lot more people on the same leveling path - and some of the anchors weren't spawning correctly when folks were lower level.

There will always be the chance that some higher-level players will need to go back and do these, for valid reasons. But I would expect it to balance out a bit more over time as new players continue to come in, resulting in a more spread out distribution of levels across the total player base.

Not as clear as I would like, but the TL;DR: is that some of these issues may start to resolve naturally as time goes on.

There's also achievements for all the types of dark anchor mobs you kill. I've noticed the mobs are different in each area so they are maybe just going back to to do farming. Looking at the achievement you need to get a considerable number so I'm not sure this is intentional grefing.

Considering going back myself, but if it is viewed as a problem I'll do it off peak when not many players are about :)

see lady has the right idea , I also stay out of the way when going to a lower area to finish something I missed just do enough to get it done, no more. Even though higher levels go back to do this , why do they need to kill everything as fast as they can, and yes I have seen that exact thing happen frequently, just do enough for the complete.

Uh very unlikely that higher levels do them to level their character considering just 6 levels above gives you zero xp and zero loot. Not even one gold from a single mob. I am a vet my self and have been going back lately completing the ones I've missed. Likely the same reason other higher level players are going back. There is very little if any reward for doing them anyway, i sure as hell won't be wasting my team as a vet on low level crappy anchors. If i haven't completed it and i pass it, i'll do it.

    the thing is tho that there is little to no reason for vr10's to go around slaughtering their way through low level anchors. like mentioned before the only reason to do it is for the achievements. I've done quite a few anchors and I haven't really encountered the issue OP mentioned;

Sure Ive seen a couple of ppl at dark anchors that were massively overleveled for the zone they were in, but never whole gangs of em and on top of that I've seen way more anchors where there were just 2 or 3 normal leveled players.

We gain achievements. We are looking for bosses and the 250 Anchor achievement. Maybe some of us are griefing, maybe some of us have that ego, but I can speak for me and my real-life friends that we are just trying to gain achievements; we are simply those types of players.
