Horse apearence and Speed/Endurance/Capacity

there was no appropriate place for this discussion but just discovered something pretty interesting.

horses change appearance!

my horse has been leveled in only speed and has extra straps around the saddle than when it was lvl .

i don't know if it changes based solely on level or if its specific to speed endurance and capacity. straps makes seance for speed as at higher speed the saddle would really need to be held down.

as for endurance maybe armor, and capacity would be bags.

if anyone has leveled their horse other than speed i would love to get all the info on this.

also could you level your horse in two categories and get say bags and armor?

Yes, others have already noticed that stamina gives armor and carrying capacity gives bags.

And I'm not sure if anyone's had enough time to get their horse to 50 and find out if you can get both (as far as I noticed, the accessories didn't appear until level 25).

"The" upgrade? You mean there is only one visual change per stat? I have seen images of the 20 levels in speed stuff, and that looks so hideous.

Yep, fast horses get webbing, and eventually a golden blanket under the saddle.
Pack horses get saddle bags, I'm not sure what the maximum level is.
I'm also unsure about stamina horses.

Question that's been asked multiple times now and that no one has had an answer for: Do the appearance changes stack? Will 20 in carrying capacity and 20 in stamina give you an armored horse with saddlebags?

We will know once 40 days since launch arrives, since I doubt very many are upgrading every 20 hours, but rather every 24+.

Wonder if you can mix it up...hit 20 with carry and get the bags then do the next 20 with stamina and get armor also added?

I dont think I'd do that (I'd be very tempted and would love the look) as I'd rather have the inv space but man....why cant we have one cool looking horse?

I utterly hate that "webbing", even more so because it looks as if simply painted on. The saddle bags at least add something interesting and fitting, I don't even know what that webbing is supposed to do, never saw something like that in any depiction of a horse so far.

is it 20 points or 25? because my horse is 48 in speed and i haven't gotten a second appearance upgrade yet so it may be 25 and 50, or when your horse is level 50 with everything in trait. an imperial horse with max speed would be 64 speed 10 endurance and 0 capacity, is that what is needed for the second change?

im going to buy the black horse soon and level speed and stamina equally to see if you can have 2 trait appearances.

i thought it would be cool to have a white horse and a black horse and name them bane of darkness, bane of light. right now my imperial horse is just named shadowfax

I believe they said it was points invested, not points total. Can anyone clarify that?

oh that would make much more sence considering some horses start at 20. So 35 speed for imperial.

As if the straps weren't ugly and functionally useless anyway, look the heavy aliasing on what is obviously just a strapped-on texture or flat surface:

Yes my graphics settings are relatively low but nothing so far in the game look as cheaply done, both from an artistic and a technical perspective.


And what is wrong with a horse with just a saddle anyway? Why do MMO devs keep insisting that I have to wear flashy bits, horse armor, extra decoration etc, instead of just a plain horse with a saddle?

It does indeed stack. I now have both straps and armor on my horse.

I accidentally put 1 point in stamina on my speed horse, when I was low level (I didn't know that horses had a level cap when I added it). Does that mean that I won't be able to get the second appearance unlock on it now?

@mglwd40b14_ESO‌ You only get one appearance upgrade per 20 feedings of one type. There is no second upgrade. If you like, you can feed 20 in two categories to get 2 visual upgrades to mix and match. (You can never get all three.)

The blanket is added when you max level your horse regardless of what you feed it. So you will be fine. The stamina point won't effect how your speed horse would have looked like in the end.
