Elemental Magic Useless Against Bosses

So

I have been rolling a Pure Mage since launch. The Destruction Staff is where all the Elemental Abilities are at....while they are awesome, they are useless against any boss.

Right now I run the following

Bar 1

1. Mages Wrath
2. Weakness to Elements (Morphed to Elemental Susceptibility)
3. Fire/Frost/Shock Clench
4. Force Shock (Morphed to Crushing Shock)
5. Unstable Wall of Elements
6. Power Overload Ultimate

Bar 2
1.Mages Wratch
2.Surge
3.Thundering Presense
4.Lighting Spalsh or Entropy
5. Mage Light (Morphed to Inner Light)
6. Power Overload

Now using Bar 1, I can wreck anything with ease...Weakness to Elements adds 40% damage to Elemental Attacks (Effects Storm Calling Abilities to IE: Mages Wrath) with added Bonus to inflict Elemental Status effects....

These make it very easy to control mobs....however against anyBoss your Elemental Skills are near useless because the Frost(Snare), Shock (Concussion),, and Fire (Stuns) simply do not work....you will get a message stating "Enemy is too powerful for this effect"

So its almost makes you wonder what the point...the Status Effects are the only reason to use these skill...its a shame they have done this.

Battlemages are one of the longest standing and well respected traditions in all of Elder Scrolls Lore...Zurin Arctus, The Underking, Jagr Tharn...were all BattleMages....Battlemages are ABSOLUTE MASTERS OF THE SCHOOL OF DESTRUCTION and are rightly feared across Tamriel for this reason.

My entire character was based on a Battle Mage (which doesn't wear heavy armor according to lore), but without the Status Effects working it takes a lot of the power away from these spells...to be frank its dumb.

These status effects should work on Boss....maybe cut the duration of them in half since...afterall your fighting a boss, but making them not work at all just doesn't make sense from a lore or gameplay perspective...

The Battle Mage wrecks anyone else above using that build, its even viable against bosses as long as you Elemental Weakness them first...but the Status effects not working is just nonsense....they should work, but perhaps have their duration cut in half so they are not all together useless.

I couldn't imagine play an TES game without viable Battle Mages...that is almost inconceivable...

    Interesting. I don't use that setup but might look into a couple of those skills.
    It is too bad they don't work against boss mobs. Doesn't make sense.

    Well its the same for any class or skill.....at least i think it is.
    But i do agree with ya.
    When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail."

    It's not just mages, my NB vampire can't use interrupts, stuns, snares or heal with vampire drain against bosses. Not only that, but they seem to have an endless amount of magicka and if you are in a quest where you have NPC companions, they rarely get agro.

    So instead of using all the tricks that I learn when fighting normal mobs, I end up panicking and running around trying to get out of range of the boss while I regen a little. Maybe make it so bosses have a chance to resist your CC and drain actions, not just make them completely useless?

    It's funny, the boss fight I was in last night, the boss kept summoning minions to help him, which I'm sure was supposed to make the fight harder. In reality it was a godsend, because I could finally use drain on something and get my health and stamina up.

    I wouldn't say Mages are useless

    Weakness to Elemments + Surge + Destruction Staff = mass amount of damage

    A few tips for mages:

    1. Destruction Staffs attack damage is based off stamina, but the attacks themselves are Elemental...Fire, Frost, and Lightning.

    2. Weakness to Elements makes Destruction Staff light and heavy attacks do 40% more damage since the enemy is 40% weaker to the elements.

    3. The Storm Calling Line Passive Skill Disintegrate effects Lighting Destruction Staffs...Power Attacks with Lightning Staffs will have a chance of disintegrating your target killing them instantly...i turn enemies into piles of ash just with the lighting staff all the time...Foundry Tactical Addon shows the Disintegrate being fied with the Lighting Staff...which makes sense since Lighting Staffs do Lighting Damage and not physical damage.

    4. Thundering Presence/Boundless Storm is a life saver...which one you take is person preference...depends if you want increased movement speed or longer duration...regardless these will save you in the instance a melee gets too close...the cloak damage is an added bonus.

    5. Crushing Shock is an instant ranged interrupt...useful for interrupting casters at range...could be very useful in PVP.

    6. IMO Mage Light Morphed to Inner Light is a must have for any Mage...combine that with the Increased Critical Chance Passive Skills of Light Armor, and you should get critical hits quite often dealing lots of damage.

    Those are just a few things I have observed in my short time playing this game. Feel free to add anything you guys/gals have found out. :)

    @RinaldoGandolphi Thanks for the tips this really helped me with a fire mage/vampire and ware wolf hunter build I am trying to create for my character.
