Switching Servers during Server downtime, how to avoid Error 209

I have tried to log over to the EU server from the NA server during the NA server downtime, without success. Multiple attempts to find a workable solution online, searching countless forums, and over a week of attempts, I can not get past the dreaded Error 209.

As I am in the Asian time zone, the US megaserver is brought down consistently during my prime playing time, 8am Eastern Standard Time is 9pm here, just after I've put my daughter to bed. There have been 3 downtimes since Monday. 3 in 5 days. I try to avoid hyperbole in online posts, but I'm sure my feelings are not difficult to understand.

Is there any viable solution to getting online to the EU server, so I can enjoy playing the game, you know, every once in a while?

I'm in the same boat. It seems like every-other evening my play time is usurped by server maintenance. I believe we could re-download the game to switch to the EU server, but I have a data cap that is just annihilated by big downloads like this. Is there a work-around that actually works? And after I switch, will I be able to switch back and forth with ease?
