Examples of intimidate and persuade?

I get what they do so I don't need a lesson on that. I want some examples.

I decided not to take them, I don't mind spending gold or not skipping parts of a quest. Anyway there are a few times the options have popped up and I always warned to know what would happen if I had those skills. Here's some examples.

1. Npc says something about killing an enemy. I ask to for him to tell me more. Intimidate pops up but I have to click goodbye, what would he have said? Any example.

2. Another one which is really bugging me is in a little town called Tel Deic there's a very small mages guild in a tower. There's a Magnus merchant there. Her eyes are red. I ask her about them and I can't get any info because I don't have the skill. What does she say?

That's what she says? So you don't get anything?

Nope, she doesn't do anything at all.

Edit: as for 1. things like "tell me more" from persuasion or intimidate usually result in them giving you a little bit of information about the fight or something. I can only recall times when I persuaded for more help and the npc would tell me a clue or two about how to beat a puzzle in the room they are sending me to, of course even without the tip you can usually figure it out anyway. One time I intimidated an npc to hand over a relic while tomb-exploring and she did, I was able to "press e" on enemies to root them in place. I presume if I didn't she would do it instead.

You can intimidate an Argonian merchant, but if you want to ever buy something from Argonians again, I would advice not to do this ;)

Wow. So am I right for not taking these skills if I don't mind paying gold or doing a part of a quest?

is there a slight chance you get a discount from her?

Just peeked in her store, intimidated her again, and looked in her store once more, no change.

Can't give you quotes but I've come across a couple of quests in Auridon where if you use the required slill (as shown in one of the selectable replies) you get the NPC to do or say something which you otherwise need to give them gold to do.

So it seems to me so far at least it simply saves having to bribe someone, though I'd hope later on you'd actually need these skills to be able to get a reaction which is otherwise not offered.

Persuade and Intimidate can be huge for rolling through quests, I consider them two points well spent. Sometimes it will just allow me to skip parts of the quest altogether, like for example I was doing a quest (I believe in Rift) and I was going to have to go find some herbs to create a tea to help this girl come out of coma, and instead I used Intimidate to just shake her a bit, and she told me the information I needed right then and there.

That's one example. There are also some where they will give you an ally to do the quest with you if you Persuade them, so you might have a healer or dps to help with the quest.

The results seem to vary but overall it usually provides some assistance with completing quests easier, so I'm a pretty big fan.

There was this one quest I did, in Grahtwood, where having Intimidate was essential (at the time) to complete the quest. Without Intimidate you were required to duel an Argonian hunter, but the hunters were bugged so you couldn't interact with them. Intimidate allowed you to skip this part and thus continue the quest :)

They are useful skills to have. I had one quest with the ogres in storm haven (can't rmbr it now), but I had fought and ground my way to the top of a mountain in order to collapse a cave, and spoke to the NPC at the top who told me I needed a pick axe which was halfway back down the mountain again, and I couldn't have his because he needed it to defend himself, a bit of intimidation and he handed it over lol, so off I went and left him defenceless with a group of beserking ogres. The skills can just save you some unnecessary to-ing and fro-ing that's all

I recently had a quest in the Covenant where intimidating a guy opened up a secret shortcut closer to where the boss fight was. I love the skills and think there should have been more checks.

Considering skill points are rather easy to come by, they are both a huge benefit as far as I have seen. Not having them sometimes means having to 'bribe' someone instead sometimes costing hundreds of gold.

I have also seen quests where you can convince the person to 'do the right thing' rather than being forced to fight and kill them. So if you are the type that wants the 'best possible' ending to a quest rather than just having it out of your journal, then its best to have them.

That stupid frog racing quest required both if I remember correctly. Quest is not really worth the time, but the ability to shorten quests is nice.

    It did not require them.

These abilities are never required for a quest, but they can save you a lot of time and/or money. Persuade/Intimidate can take the place of a fight, an errand, a bribe or a puzzle.

the gold costs skyrocket (i had one quest with a pricetag of 1k if i didn't have intimidate or persuade.) and you can skip a lot of BS fetch quests.
I love quests, and this game has some great ones, but I don't want to fetch a dude's mail every time I need to know where the next quest objective is.

Intimidate can be used to rob certain NPCs. Free stuffs \o/
You have to have the perk already to even see that option I believe.
  • williambbechtoldub17_ESO
Can you even get past the Main Story quest line without Persuade and Intimidate? I seem to remember one of the last quests (trying to avoid spoilers) seemed to require them. Maybe there was another dialogue option that I couldn't see because I already had Persuade and Intimidate. If so, disregard this.

There is a quest where a "spy" has been captured. And you get a chance to question him to progress the quest. You can intimidate him, threatening to break his legs, or just go rescue his family which has been kidnapped and used to force him to do what the enemy wants.

I don't ever use the intimidate on that one because it seems kinda like a *** move to not rescue his family and I don't mind the extra three minutes it takes to do so which also gives me a little more xp, drops, and gold.

Not to say I won't use it in the future.
  • Lazydragon
You don't need the perk to see the option, it will just tell you can't use that option if you try to use it and don't have it trained already.

some of them are like Pesuade/Intimidate: How bout i help you faster and you give me what you have so i dont have to collect all the things?
Bam save 5mins of collecting lootables, also works with investigation quests too XD

sufficiently happy with the skill point investment

I literally spent points on intimidations and persuasion for the sole purpose of getting past bugged quests. As a side benefit I have saved 100s of gold and a bit of time, but if gold/time is not a concern then by all means do not spend the points. Note: the avoided gold cost starts to add up quickly - apparently - at higher levels.
