Who cares? This review is fail. They rate Skyrim 9 and ESO 6 even tho ESO has better quests and combat etc.

This is a very fair review. The simple facts are that the game has a wonderful foundation but the fact that it's basically an online single player game shoots it in the foot.

Gamespot are exactly that... a spot...

    EDIT: After actually reading the review i saw this;

'Breaking into a house only to be surrounded by a half-dozen other would-be burglars destroys any hope of role-playing as a surreptitious thief.'

Have to agree, public dungeons and public just about everything completely ruin immersion, I got a quest that put me in a cell, won't say which so as not to spoil anything' and when I spawned there were other players IN THE SAME CELL as me.

This is the only aspect I really cannot stand in this game. I like to take my time, but i cannot because when questing other people rush through and complete my quest for me.

Phasing is ruining this great game. They should get rid of it, or use it sparingly when the world changes and all story elements and dungeons should have options for solo or group with friends.

We have proper dungeons for proper groups, why do i need to be forced to watch other people kill the same boss I am meant to be killing in my little quest?

I also agree with his points - but I would sooner go to 7/10.
He didn't adress the VR I think?
In that regard I could imagine him giving lower points.

I can't say I agree about there not being enough voice actors. If they are indeed using the same people for multiple characters, I haven't noticed.

I have noticed, but it doesn't bother me.

I think this is a stupid criticism. There's plenty to criticize about the game, but this is just reaching. Nothing will ever compare to Oblivion's overuse of the same voice actors...nothing.

Voice acting is overall good, however it has a bit of the Skyrim problem people saying the same line over and over.
For this it would actually be better to follow Oblivion, allow some voice bugs to increase variation.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Yup. I always though that it was Elder Scrolls series feature - every race has its voice. And I liked it.

Using the voice actors more than once is ok , BUT there are cases where for some reason , they change the voice actor in the middle of the quest for the SAME NPC.

    That is what gets me.

I dont usually notice this kind of thing , but some of them are really different and abrupt.

And once , the voice selection made no sense , i think everyone that played AD will agree that a tree should NOT sound like that lols.

As others said, in other TES games each race has its own voice actor, so where`s the problem? At least they are mostly good quality actings and they are voiced in the first place.

About the fact that people breaking into a house and finding others there breaks the immersion I agree. I wish they were either solo or you could decide if you wanted solo or if you can`t kill the elite, you can spawn in a public version of the same place. But there is one thing that shows how you can never please people: Many people are already complaining about the small solo only parts of the game "Oh, I can`t kill that boss, oh why can`t I enter with my friends, oh why do I have to do it alone?", yet in these cases you see "Oh why are others at my boss, why are others here in the first place?".
As I said, I am for making these places solo too but, as you can see, people complain either way.
I would still rate a game 8.5+ out of 10 but that is, as reviews usually are, just one opinion out of many, you can disagree, people will disagree but I am not here to be convinced differently, only the game could achieve that, bringing up the same issues again and again won`t make the game any worse for me.

Skyrim is a single player game. You don't ever see ANYONE else EVER. After playing MMOs, playing Skyrim felt lifeless to me. In ESO, 75% of the time I play with my friend, in Skyrim we played together 0% of the time. 100% of the time I play ESO I see people running around here and there. 95% of the time I see people running around here and there the people are working together to kill stuff.

This open world cooperative style PVE is the LEAST single player MMO I've every played.

if you look at the series you can say its already a classic , sure all games have bugs they good for fishing , game does tend most player to go solo at low levels to farm bosses, nodes, chests, etc.
so game was made this way they have their reasons , I do enjoy the game , would have liked more quests with teams ,
in time I am sure these bugs will be ironed out , would also say the forums will always have players say this and that I am sure we all have a say reason they set the forums up

reason why skyrim got a 9 and this didnt its because Skyrim felt like an ES. this doesnt. same reason why GTA V got a 9, because it felt like the game lived up to the duty of being a GTA game.

I can't help to notice a certain negative bias with the reviewer. I even wonder if it can be considered as a review. To me it sounds more like a report on a person's experience with the game.

Crap review from a crap reviewer is all ill say. I wonder what level he got to...probably was too busy thinking about wow to care about the story etc..

Besides the fact it make no sense to compare apples to oranges with Daily Pageviews per Visitor of 2.66 that review won't ESO hurt too much I guess.

However you can not deny they talk truth about some valid issues with ESO in that review.

I'm glad you've had a better experience. Personally, I've never gotten any grouping to actually work well. Most of the time I'm not even in the same layer as the people I try to group with and if we ever manage to get into the same layer, most of the time one or more of us can't see the item or character we're expected to interact with.

In regards to the game being an MMO because you see people running around, again compared to most other MMOs I've played (WoW, LOTRO, DAoC) it falls quite short. I don't find it a pleasant experience to have a boss battle reduced to desperately trying to get one hit in so I at least get credit for the vast mob death group. It would be nice if they actually used phasing and instancing for something useful like boss fights.

The anchors in PVE are ok, I'll admit. You can't really do those alone and I haven't had any phasing issues with them yet. You don't need to group to do them because they're easy enough to just DPS down if you find 2 or 3 other people beating on one, so the group phasing problems don't ruin those.

It would just be nice if the game made grouping, chatting, socializing, both fun and rewarding. Right now they're just clunky and frustrating.

    Really?

It's not about thinking for themselfs , it's about expressing ones feeling about the game but lacking the communication skills to express themselfs without beeing flamed in a random topic.(these forums..) Like your doing right now.

Most people have their opinion about the game , but posting ones opinion on these forums is terrible. So that's why they post a reviewer since they focus on the reviewer and not on the poster.

Anyway I like the score gamespot is giving, to bad this will probably means ESO is going to die before they can fix their own game.
Only a few options for the Devs but i think they'll milk this game for whatever it's worth.

Well, I certainly would rate it different.

There needs to be some things to make it better for the solo gamer. Ive gimped myself to where doing the content becomes IMPOSSIBLE SOLO. ONLY TO BE LEFT WITHOUT ENOUGH TO RESPEC! This is an unforgivable shortcoming - it should not be a fortune or a game-breaker to be able to test different builds... perhaps we should be able to TEST the build before we buy?? If not then respecs need to be free for subscribers... end of story.

There also needs to be the whole "boss farm" with and without bots dealt with. Or make them only drop loot the first time you kill it?

The voices? Never noticed it. Seems like enough variation to me.

Furthermore, when im not rushing, and I take my time to really 'feel' the quest.. i really feel a sense of accomplishment. Like when you save a city, or a hamlet from certain ruin. Or save a noble's life. There really is a depth to these I dont usually feel.

I would rate it differently - 7.0 with (+-) .5 with the potential for 9.5-10.

If he really gave SWTOR an 8 at launch than that alone obliterates any worth his opinion would have for me.

Think I'll skip giving this review a look ^^
