Templar solo build

Hi guys,
I really need help with a solo build for my Templar. I have leveled a NB and DK to mid levels without any bigger problems but my Templar is so weak.

My AOE is ok, I have problems with harder mobs (ie last boss to kill in quests, where the fight is longer than normal)

DK does have self heals from Burning Embers, NB from Swallow Soul (Strife) and from Blood Craze (dual wield). Low level Templars have nothing, well I can take Rushed Ceremony but it will clear my poor magicka pool and then I have no DPS at all.

Are we forced to use resto staff? I relly like to use dual wield..

Edit: I use a mix of heavy and light armor and Im not intrested in a bow build.

I am only level 11 but I do not feel weak as a templar at all. Maybe I will when I get to higher levels :). Anyway, I use a bow. Against a single enemy or multiple enemies, I open with heavy attack from stealth, poison arrow, sun fire, and then I spam silver bolts & binding javelin whenever they are available. My fifth skill is rushed ceremony but I almost never get to use it. I have 9 points in magicka and 1 in health. Actually, I find the game is too easy after I respected and used all wrongfully spent skills points into the right passives.

    Ty guys,
I will start to level a new Templar and focus on your tips, well I will avoid Bow, not my style.

I belong to Ebonheart and the first quest in Mages guild, there is a boss at the end you need to kill. The boss is an animal, some kind of a reptile, he is lvl 8. I remember when I tryed to kill him with my first Templar with 2H, i died maybe 10 times. This time I will try to kill him with daggers. I just remember that my magicka pool was dry all the time, especially when I needed to heal my self.

I guess this kind of problems started to the Templar class when they nerfed the magicka generation.

Edit: And yes, I avoid the heavy attacks he does. One aoe and one charge.

Normal mobs die relly fast yes. I only have problem with harder mobs like mini elites where the fight is longer than normal.

Want a good DPS build? Arcane archers are where it's at. Bow and sword and board (for tanking/long fights) allow me to be a very flexible templar. Dps the crap out of em with your bow and swap sets for close combat. My attributes were 29 magicka, 10 health and 10 stamina using armor enchants to offset stamina and health. I have no trouble running veteran content with this build (though dungeons and elite mobs still require effort). Granted you need to be good at what you do for any build to be effective so practice and trial and error are your best friends. There is no "end all" build for everyone as we all play differently.

My Templar has been by far my quickest damage dealer for taking down mobs fast. My rotation is pretty much - Dark Flare - Venom Arrow - Reflective Light. If they get near me (which they don't) then Puncturing Sweep & Binding Javelin get used. My Ultimate is Solar Disturbance. I also have a Resto staff as my 2nd weapon but this is more for PVP and I hardly ever even use it in PVE other than Retreating Maneuver and Repentance. In time I will change Venom Arrow for Focused Aim.

All my points go into magic and I'm in 5 light 2 heavy. This is more cosmetic than anything else, Can't be doing with a light chest dress thing. I'm a Breton for the magic boosts. With a Bow, obviously. I don't think I've died from PVE combat yet. Only falling and PVP has killed me so far.

This is a great build for PVP. Hit and heal from distance but It's also good for PVE.

I haven't had much of a problem with kill speed up to level 41 thusfar. Personally, I use SnB/Resto Staff, with 5/7 Cloth, 2/7 Heavy.

With Magelight activated, a couple Reflective Lights, a Puncturing Sweep, and a Shield Bash (if necessary, not usually) is enough to wipe packs up to 5-6 strong, rarely dropping below 90% Health, though I do keep Rushed Ceremony on my bar for "oh noes" moments. Off the top of my head, my stats have been split a not so ideal 24M/10H/7S, but running out of mana is only an issue should I decide to chain 5 or 6 packs in a row without using a potion. With potions, eh, a Templar could probably go for quite a while without a break.

I usually have a resto staff/destro staff combo on my bar. My resto staff is for longer fights if I have to cc and heal up, and against melee opponents destro staff and the aedric spear line are fantastic for keeping distance up.

Ranged opponents give me more trouble, but if you can los them, you can heal/regen magicka and help alleviate some of that damage.

My biggest problems are with opponents that resist knockdowns and slows, but those guys often have lots of power attacks and conal abilities, so kiting can be very effective.

This is what scares me. Are we forced to use resto staff on longer fights when we have a healing skill line? I think something is wrong when we at low lvl (before lvl 15) cant use a self heal combined with dps. If we use our healing ability then we clear almost half of our magicka pool.

Ty for your answer TicToc, and yes you have right about to block avoid heavy attacks from mobs. I think a Templar can do the same as all classes but for a higher cost of magicka and stamina.

The biggest problem I see with Templar is when meeting a outdoor (mini boss) often the last mob to kill in a chain quest where the fight is long. Then I often need to cast a heal on my self and your magicka pool is empty. I also use my weapon skill for the balance yes.

My thought is that Templar can do the same thing as other classes but for a higher cost and harder to make it done, at least in lower levels compared to other classes.

The Templar I have (V1) is very old fashioned. I originally spec'd for healing, using a Restoration Staff, and pure cloth armor.

    The skills I have on my Templar consist of;

    -Solar Flare
    -Reflective Light
-Silver Shots (effective even without being Daedric)
-Channeling "something another" (casts a shield that grants 1k Spell Resistance/Armor, morphing into a magicka regen sigil as well)
    - Swapped between healing skills (as a fifth skill)

So far, this build has worked wonders, and still continues to in Veteran zones. I have no problem clearing out monsters, my mana never drains because of the passive skill-line of cloth armor, the regen from Restoration Staff, and the channeling skill.

Nothing get's close enough to me (with the way I play using my skills), in order to cause any damage. I pretty much kite/kill everything before it gets near me.

Even early on in my Templar stages, with the full passive skill-line/Restoration staff mainly used for Magicka regeneration, I've had not too many problems with Mini bosses, or Public dungeon bosses. I don't even carry HP potion, or MP potions with me.

Meh... to each their own I suppose.

Hi Humor, so as you say and lot of other ppl do aswell:
If using resto staff then you have no magicka problem.

This is the part I dont like. Why force a class to wear/use resto staff to resolve a problem?

I want to use my resto when I heal in dungeons, otherwise I like melee combat when questing.

I started a new Templar yesterday with dualwield and I will see how he is then with some of the tips I got from you guys.
Its sad that Templars need to put down more effort to do exactly same thing as the other classes, without resto staff.

I have a lv 26 Templar who does not use resto staff. I admit I have a bit of trouble with groups of mobs sometimes, but no doubt that is more to do with my style of play. I charge in with shield charge and then slash away with melee, vs single enemies or enemies with charge power moves, I wait for the sign they are doing one, then block, they get stunned, I floor them, hit them some more and back of a bit, charge in with shield smash skill again, rinse repeat. I can have issues with groups of mobs if harried but then if my health looks pale I will kite, and heal, that's when I normally tend to use magic. My system can be dangerous sometimes, if I get harried or backed into a corner it can be tough going, but most of the time I use up stamina skills and drain stamina and can finish enemies off with magic attacks if there is no need to heal. And if the enemy or enemies are still there after I used my magic up, my stamina is normally looking more healthy then, so I just stun them some more. My style revolves around keeping enemies grounded and I tend to always target healer or heavy magic uses first, while avoiding the melee heavy attacks as much as I can. I probably need to change out my current heal for one that does not have a cast time and slows you down...I know Templar has a skill like that but cant think of its name.

Ah, do you play as tank or dps? I wondering cause you say that you running with 1h and shield. Yes I use that insta heal you taking about (I'm so bad at names).

Well to be honest I'm lvl 11 now with my DW Templar and it works better than I thought. I'm using my magicka skills more seldom and often finisghing of with the "lightning spear".

The reason of my thoughts is because I'm aware of the magicka problem and playing more smart now. I aslo finding DW to fit my play style great.

So I'm actually really satisfied right now. Will be back with more input as I leveling.
