It's really easy to give comments without even looking at the actual technical aspects of the problem. The fact of the matter is that none of us know the complications involved and only Zenimax team knows this.

Zenimax knows about these bots and the damages they have done, give them time to resolve this issue.

    Thanks

You mean the crapware that produced this:
During the period of 30 October to the 6th of November 2013 Punkbuster was falsely banning Battlefield 4 users with the error "(Gamehack #89265)" As of November 8, 2013 the issue has been resolved by Evenbalance inc. and all Punkbuster bans resulting from this error have been resolved and officially deemed a false-positive.

"We have confirmed that Violation #89265 may be triggered by non-cheat software. This Violation code has been removed from our master servers and we encourage server admins to give the benefit of the doubt to players who raised this code over the past few days."[6]

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PunkBuster

meaning God know how many players got banned on the say-so of a dubious third-party piece of crapware, no better than a faulty A/V?

    No thanks.

well, seeing as it appears the Zone is free of Gold spam, It seems like about 2 weeks is the time it takes for them to enact the proper fixes... The botting has only gotten REALLY bad in the past 6-8 days, I hope by next week they will have had a mass banning event.

It looked very easy during the mass ban for duping so how come bots still roaming around?

Might be problematic if several people share a computer and play this game, which would lead to people complaining that they are effectively banned because their brother/sister/housemate was an idiot but they did nothing.

The problem is that most proactive solutions have unexpected consequences, sometimes with legal ramifications.

IP Address are frequently dynamic these days, meaning they change every so often. Mine changes everytime I shut down my router (only solution to local technical issues), which means if they banned IP Address eventually I would inherit a banned one despite not doing anything. (other people too, not just me)

  • Koltiros1005b14a_ESO
Because banning a bot isn't simply done, it's a process that requires them to review the reports they've received on supposed bots and they then have to prove said bot was actually botting, how would you like to be banned for being falsely accused, unable to continue to have fun on Elder Scrolls. It's a very rigid line that defines what a "bot" actually is.

To be fair, few other than botters (and people who used ISPs that only allowed one MAC address to connect) would ever need to know that!

Always need to bear in mind that many of the simple fixes hit normal users but fail to hit organised RMT companies, who make their living getting around security.

    How is this for technical?

Log in when the game's up.
    Go to a dungeon.
    See the bots.

Then ask yourself why it is that YOU - who pays Zenimax, can do this..

But They, who are Paid By Zenimax, can't do the same thing - and ban them.

No, they ignore the obvious - and continue to seek a Perfect Solution via Software Automation.

You know - what every major MMO since they were invented has tried to do and Failed miserably?

I'm sure Zenimax can pull it off tho, and probably within this century.. or 5... After all, they just know So Much More about MMOs and their corresponding Hackers, Bots, etc - than those pathetic, clueless companies who have only been in the business for a little over a decade.

If you note the sarcasm, it is directed to Zenimax, not the poster - I am just sick of coming back day after day to see the Same bots that I've seen for over a week, after reporting them several times each on various characters - when a Single GM could wipe them out in a week. (they only continue to buy accounts to return as long as that cost is Less than the money they get from gold sales)

I am to the point I am starting to believe the claims that Zenimax ALLOWS the bots - providing they are from a certain 3-letter website and gold farming/selling site that also does game reviews... in exchange for continued Positive press.

It would explain why they haven't taken Obvious, Simple steps to remove them, and why that site remains silent with regard to the horrific problem ESO has with these bots and spammers.

Yeah lets get kicked out of ESO because shadowplay/fraps/your keyboard software interferes with a third party program and gives you an invalid driver error.

It's not that it's taking a long time to ban them, it's just that there are so many. As soon as one gets banned two pop up to take it's place. When they do these bans they have to go through a list of names and accounts to make sure that the character in questions is really a bot, and not a player.

IP bans do not work because the botters and gold sellers will just use VPN's and proxies.

As for MAC addresses, you apparently don't understand how those work, because you cannot read someone's MAC address unless you are on the same physical network segment as them. Besides, changing the MAC address to whatever you want takes all of 5 seconds.

That only shows they Claim to care.
If they actually Do care, why are we still dealing with the bots and spammers?

You - yourself, can literally, and easily, find several Hundred bots in a day of play.
They could do the same thing on a GM character with Ban ability.

Zenimax makes the Active Decision Not to apply any Human action to the problem.

    Look at it another way.
If you have a disease, and Claim to want to be cured..
But there Is a cure, and it works - and is available to you - but you refuse to consider it.....

How much credibility do your claims of wanting a cure hold?

They have Millions of subscribers now - there is No way they can't afford a single full time position for GMs.
Said GM could travel faster/further than you, and shift between instances, finding Orders of Magnitude More bots than you can.
    But they don't.

Ergo, their Claims that eliminating the cheaters and spammers is a "Top Prirority" has no validity.

Or.. about as much as their claim that last week's ban sweep was NOT automated - when they later said that all of us who were falsely banned sending Help Requests allowed them to find the problem IN that automated process.

Ok steps that could fix this...
Suspending connection to suspicious countries for a limited amount of time.
With that you can pin point where bots are coming from.

Nope, won't help at all. That will just block legitimate players. The bots use VPN tunnels and proxies, and have for a long time. You will not be able to tell where they're coming from.

    Dear felixgamingx1,

I am certain you are very good/knowledgeable in one or more area's. I'm also certain I.T. is not one of those area's.

I agree with the sentiment that bots need to be handled, but let's leave the solution to the professionals.
