What I Love About ESO

Necrachilles
I couldn't find an appropriate Category/Forum for this (really need a general discussion section or something, then again, maybe I missed it) so I'm posting here. If you want to get straight to the point skip to the list/numbers. tldr at bottom.

So, I haven't seen a whole lot of threads (once again, probably just missed them) striking out on a positive note. Mostly just people complaining and reporting bugs/glitches, which is all fine and well. Have to know where the problems are to fix them, etc.

I just wanted to take this time to address some of the things I enjoy about this game. No game is perfect (especially at the start) and a lot of people forget that. I try to keep that in mind when weighing the good and the bad (much like tipping a waiter well even though food was slow getting to you (observe that it's busy and/or the cooks are slacking, etc). Moving on...

I played many RPGs growing up (Final Fantasy, Legend of Dragoon, Baldur's Gate, etc) but one that always stood out to me was Elder Scrolls. I started with Morrowind and played it to the point of knowing where everything in the game was and the fastest way to get a new character started, all the neat little lore pockets, etc. The exploration and openness in Morrowind was such that when I started WoW, all I did for the first week was swim around the coasts (and die, a lot) of each continent looking for treasure, underwater shrines (went Undead solely for underwater breathing, mostly for this reason) and other hidden goodies. I was sadly disappointed and moved on.

Flash forward, a veteran of both Oblivion and Skyrim at this point and having grown disappointed with WoW, I looked to ESO to combine the two in interesting ways and that's where our journey, truly begins...

After that wall of text (impressed if you made it through all the way), I'm going to try and make this brisk.

What I love about ESO:
1) Customization | I'm speaking specifically of skill/character customization, not so much appearance customization (which is great thing to have but not a huge deal to me). The fact that their are so many customizable aspects of your character is amazing. Something I've always loved was making interesting builds. I've found a plethora of that in ESO and I've only just scratched the surface. If nothing else I'd like to see more customization (maybe one more morph tree for each ability or
another skill tree entirely dedicated to tanking/healing/dps to further define your role and perhaps round your character out).

2) Open World | I'm going to use to cover a broad scope of things including but not limited to: Exploration (lots of interesting things everywhere), ability to quest where you want when you want (no real level restriction, only power restriction) and ability to jump right into a world boss/event and help out seamlessly. In true Elder Scrolls Fashion, I feel like I can go just about anywhere I want when I want and play the game how I want (I believe this was one of the initial goals set when designing ESO). There's a lot to do and a lot of ways to do it (see: Customization).

3) Story | Each zone seems to have a core story that often times is engrossing. It's fun seeing the story play out and how the choices you make impact them (there's also a certain thrill to being unsure how something will turn out and not having the ability to reload a previous save and see the other outcome before making a firm decision, feels much more real) and the consequences of your actions. Wrap that around the much broader main story and you have something delicious.

4) Faction Race | Now this is a bit of a sensitive subject to some people. The ability to play any race on any faction only if you preordered was controversial but I think an appropriate move. Think about it. Wouldn't it be racists to assume that all Nords think the same way? Perhaps. Surely, there would be some who's views were more in line with another faction. I think limiting the races on opposing factions to preorders brings a much more realistic ratio (and perhaps other aspects) to the game. At least from a RP perspective.

5) Skill Point Abundance | You get them from everywhere. Skyshards, leveling, quests, etc. Some people are going to have too few skill points and some too many. Me personally, I have too many right now but I'm using a much more strict build and have respec'd a few times to cut unfavorable skills. If anything, I'd like to see skills level up faster so I can use points sooner. Unsure entirely how it works but it seems each skill tree gets more experience for each skill of that tree you have slotted, which then advances each skill. Then again, the pacing could be (and probably is) fine. All that being said, I'd rather have too many skill points rather than not enough. Let's me pick up skills I wouldn't otherwise.

6) Map | The map is a powerful tool. Whether teleporting across the world or just trying to get your bearings. The fact that points of interests/quest hubs change color when they've been completed is awesome. No need to worry about back tracking. Miss something? The map will show tell you what. The mouse over text on completely locations is nice too, offers a reminder of your previous deeds and misadventures. Ability to warp (whether from shrine or anywhere else) is nice. No need for a "Hearthstone" type function (Though I still miss the original Mark and Recall from Morrowind and that would have been a lovely use of it).

Those are the first 6 that came to mind, the 6th being a last minute addition.

The biggest thing for me is customization though. I'd always prefer to see choices increased over decreased.

I ask of any of you to post about what you enjoy. If all people do is talk about what they don't like, the developers will have a strong idea of what to get rid of/change but not what to keep.

Thanks for your time.

tldr: Customization is cool, I like skill points. What do you like?

I miss Mark and recall as well, But I used it as an exploit along with Almsivi Intervention. Go into a dungeon, load up with loot, mark, use Almsivi Intervention, drop loot on the ground, recall, repeat. Once I was done with the dungeon, go to the mud crab, mark, go to where my pile of loot was, load up, recall. It made me happy that I could recall no matter how much loot I was carrying.

And what I like about the game? That it reminds me of when I played Morrowind. which BTW was my favorite TES game.

Morrowind was def awesome. I miss making fireworks with the custom spell table. That and Hoptoad/levitate.

I used to break into the vaults, steal of the loot tell I was way over encumbered and then just recall to my "safe house" and drop the loot.

ESO I definitely look at as more "Morrowind 2.0 Online" which isn't a bad thing at all. I think a lot of people go from Skyrim to this and there's a drop in quality (which is to be expected). Definitely a rough start but I'm enjoying myself and I think it can only get better.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't really consider that an exploit. An exploit requires an aggrieved party. What you did was perfectly within the bounds of the way the game was designed. Morrowind just predated the day and age of where fun had to be sacrificed on the altar of "balance".

hahahahahahahaha, I totally forgot about that :D I loved morrowind so much... I think that's the main reason I wanted to play the Pact so much lol.

As for ESO, my favorite feature above all has to be the voiced quests. I've been looking for an mmo that does it right for so long....

There are just too many things about this game that I love to name :p

^ My favorite bank in the whole game. Probably my favorite NPC as well. This quote only makes him better (I only wish it was a real quote)
"The last man that tried to get in my vault died. He died because I hit him. That's security you can trust. That's the gro-Grazob promise."

File that under things I love as well.

I love the art. I mean ALL of it. ES characters always seemed...off. (what's with elves' eyes?!) Man. I day dream about being an artist (rigging, texture, models, whatever) and watching people run through the terrain, wearing the bad ass armor, or being engrossing by the weather *I* helped create for them to enjoy.

and I love threads like this.

    Finally, an appreciation thread!

What I love compared to other MMOs:

    * The story and that it's not a rush to endgame
    * How I can build whatever character I want with any armor and great flexibility
    * The nice set of playable races
    * The relatable and likeable npcs, some of them with less-flat-than-usual characters
    * How grouping is not forced and I can play it nicely solo
    * The main quest is solo
    * The music
    * The ease at which you find and complete quests, including how they grouped them. For me there is much more boring running back and forth than in other mmos.
    * The consistency of the world. I like that if one area is a forest, then the next might be a slightly different, hilly forest, or gorge, but it does not suddenly turn into a white sanded beach, like in wow.
    * Crafting. I disliked it in the beginning but now it's growing on me rapidly
    * That they don't force you to make alts, you can do anything with one char.
    *

    .. and much more!

I love the books. It's so much fun to stop what I'm doing, and just read the books. Every time I see one of those little pieces of parchment on the ground, I read those too. I love how they just give added information to the little side stories you're working on.

I love the crafting. I love how we can make any and every piece of equipment we want. I love how I can be wearing light armor for awhile, and then just decide to wear heavy armor. Then, I can just go back to town and craft an entire set of level-appropriate heavy armor on a whim. And if I don't like it, I can just as quickly replace it with my own crafted light armor.

I love how the weapons/armor aren't tied to the classes. I can mix and match my class skills with different weapons, and get a wholly different type of character every time.

I love the guild stores. I love that I can just sell items to my own guildmates. I have absolutely no intention of ripping off my friends, and I'm sure they feel the same way about me. So, when I shop in the guild store, I know the prices are reasonable, and I know the items we buy/sell will keep all the goods (and the money) in our guild.

I love the scenery. I can just wander around through a forest, or along a beach, and I'm just stunned at how beautiful and rich everything looks.
The moment you call someone stupid, or try to display your opinion as "fact", you lose all credibility.

I'm really amazed at how well this thread turned out. I went in expecting to be flamed. Well done gang. See you back at HQ for smoothies.

I really am enjoying healing, so much fun. My archer is pretty fun too. I just wish there was a little more clarity on what some moves do but all in all awesome times :D

This is a thread I can find myself reading without wanting to end humanity!
I am going to add my own points of appreciation.

    - The little things! Go to The Ebony Flask, go up stairs or down, notice the less than saintly behaviour going on, talk to those partaking in these activities, I got a good long laugh out of it. Its wonderful to have things like this.
    - The guild store system! Go on, flame at me if you dare! I love that its different, I love the unique challenges it provides, it took how many thousands of years for us to invent Ebay? Why should there be a global AH, it just spoils the fun.
    - The unique cultures, its nice to experience just how different the races and their lands are, I have never once placed trust in a khajiit and never once been wrong.

At the moment the NightBlade. I haven't had so much fun with a stealth rogue type character in a long time. Considering that a lot of the skills are a bit broken it will probably be even better. Can't wait for the Thieves guild and the Dark Brotherhood.

The Veteran Zones. I love them.

So what game are you playing ? I think television has ruined my imagination ...

    1) Customize you character ?
you only gimp your character when wearing Plate and mainly use spells. Same goes for stamina builds without leather.
But than again i'm mostly running naked since my equipment gets destroyed to fast.
Class ability are only buffs/escapes & 1 "decent" damage spell in each tree. So you find yourself using auto-attack alot. (wish it was auto attacking). Because spells are costing alot of magicka/stamina.

    2) Open world ? Yes you can travel to other zones and get killed in a few minutes trying to avoid every mob while doing absolutly nothing in the zone. You can do this in every mmo... There's nothing to explore since most places are locked up because you need to take a certain quest.
Unless you see gathering ores-chest-boxes as exploration.

    3) The story is decent , could get rid of certain dull quests inbetween but no real complain.

    4)Don't have that option.

5)I end up using 2-3 ability's only with persuade/intimidate. I actually don't need more skillpoints.

    6) The map is good maybe abit to good.. trying to figure out where to find a quest is half of the fun. Following some arrows isn't really that fun.

It's great that you can have so much fun with this game , but i can't see it.
Maybe it's because i've played so many other mmo's or my age.
    Ignorance is bliss i guess.

I've played a lot of MMOs and I'm really, really enjoying this game. In fact, I'm active in 5 mmos right now. This is my favorite. I log in before I got to work in the morning and there were actually people on.

1)The changes in the weather and damn, those sound affects are awesome.

    2) The world design, love it, especially in 3D. It is amazing in 3D.

    3) The quests are really great if you take the time to actually listen to the NPCs.

    4) Public dungeons without the bots, clue, do them first thing in the morning. Just a couple of people taking out everything. So much fun.

    5) Class and build/weapon choice. I have a sorc who uses a bow, a templar that is dual wield, a DK that I'm going to put a staff on. Pretty damned cool.

    6) That is feels different than all the rest.
