memory leak

TESO starts out at about 1GB of memory and slowly climbs up to almost 2GB. Dont know if it would go past that because thats about the point I notice it feeling a little sludgy so I relog it.

It's normal for it to start using more memory as more things are loaded/cached. If it stabilizes around 2GB, that is not a memory leak. A memory leak would cause it to keep using more and more RAM until it hit the 4GB mark and crashed. The amount of RAM used by the game when you first launch is less than what it normally uses, because it hasn't loaded very much yet. It is quite normal for it to load/cache a bit more as you move around. 2GB sounds about right to me.

The game executable is LAA, which means it can use 4GB of RAM on a 64-bit OS. On a 32-bit OS it would have the standard 3GB limit. Non-LAA 32-bit programs are limited to 2GB on both 32-bit and 64-bit OS's. LAA 32-bit programs are limited to 3GB on a 32-bit OS and 4GB on a 64-bit OS.

It does continue to climb, when it gets to about 3 GB of memory (I have 8GB total), I start to get framerate drops so I kill the client and restart.

It's most noticeable when you have to do the "inventory dance" swapping between different crafters to extract and refine, etc. You'll swap between 5 or so characters in 20 minutes and watch your memory use climb.

Apparently they fixed the Mac leak, but not the PC.

    Pretty much this.

Its not dumping ram after you log off a character.

Usually things are held for a while, with a ttl timer on it(time to live). When ttl expires, memory is supposed to be freed and the data purged. Its holding it indefinitely.

If I hop around playing inventory management online a bit I have to reload the game before actually playing again.

Tested this and found no memory leak. Log into my main played for 5 mins killing and looting, inventory with all the mods I have.
Did the same for my other 7 toons and went back to my main.

    I dont run mods.

My usage goes from a gig to 2 gigs in about 2 hours if I jump around. My alts are in Riften, Deshaan and Shadowfen, so all different environment.

I also play long hours. Once Im settled Ill go 4-5 hours then need to hop and close, reopen.

i have noticed similar over several hours of play. Not sure a 5 min test would suffice.

5 minutes isn't even a test. There is a memory leak and it's kind of funny that there was a patch to fix the mac client memory leak and yet here it's occuring on the pc.

I played for hours and do not need to close the game. I do lots of alt jumping daily and neither that cause an issue.
When I get time tomorrow to play for a few hours I'll see what memory is like.

For info, Mac memory usage would hit 3gb and crash after about an hour of play. It was seriously buggy.

Never had any problems, seen usages almost 2,5 gigs after half a day playing. No slowdown of any sort noticable at any point. Got all 8 charslots filled, and i regulary jump between 4 of them to manage stuff.

Yeah I always have to restart game after switching alts (inventory management and crafting), game gets choppy if I don't. i72600k @4.6GHz gtx780sc acx and 8 gigs DDR3 1600 RAM.

There is a memory leak, I decided to check how much memory was being used about 2 hours ago (after being on ESO for an hour or more already) and it was around 2.6GB with just over 1,000,000 Private(KB) in resource manager (sorry can't remember the exact number). However, at the time of writing this now, with ESO in the background, I'm currently using 4.71GB of memory with ESO using 2,094,688 Private(KB) in the resource manager.

This doesn't really have a large impact on my game, but I'd assume after more hours it'd slowly start creeping up more and more. I have had the game run really laggy some times after hours of gaming and exiting and reopening the game seems to fix it.

Just closed the game and memory jumped back down to 1.8GB, just to give you an idea of how much ESO was impacting it.

There is a serious memory leak problem, the more other player characters you encounter the worse it will get. As the client it still only 32bit if you manage to hit ~3.8gb you'll crash hard. This is a bigger issue for the Mac client which handles memory differently.

They have been improving the problem in recent patches, and memory leaks are always difficult to track down and fix.

This does not show, or prove, a memory leak.

A memory leak has been a known issue since back in beta. I can personally confirm this on Mac and it is in many threads all over the Mac Technical Support sub-forum here. Steadily over time the situation in PvE has improved (in terms of game time before crash). PvP however still crashes within 30 mins to 1 hr (even after patch 1.0.6).

The devs are continuously working to fix this but it isn't easy with a modern MMO that is a 32 bit client. The ultimate fix would be the release of the 64 bit client.

@Moonraker‌ has really taken a leadership role on this topic on the Mac side since beta and would be able to explain more to you all. I believe he has even had some discussion with those on PC regarding the matter.

There's definitely a memory leak that was not present on release. It was added in 1.0.4 or 1.0.5. You have to play for like 10 hours straight to really notice it though.

    Note: I'm on PC.
