I'm confused because people complain about all the bugs in the game, but then they complain that they're doing maintenance on the server to fix those bugs. I really don't know what some of you expect them to do lol.

Amen. Hopefully it solves that issue after the first month of subs kick in.

Well considering the Beta testers have been telling them about the issues for so many months, maybe having dish out a ton of money to "Not" be playing the game is bit ridiculous.

MMO's have been having complaints about down time for at least a decade, so maybe it would have been expected especially with all the game breaking bugs and endless load times also

Expect them to do it off hours and not on a public holiday???

Nobody is saying they dont want stuff fixed, but it's like they hold meetings to determine which timeframes have a significant impact, then decide to upgrade/maintenance during those times.

What it boils down to is that nobody at ZOS wants to work the graveyard shift, and we suffer for it.

And 2 days a week regular maintenance? What a clown show.

You've got this thread, and then there have been others along the lines of "take the servers down now and fix this," where people want the servers taken down immediately to fixes, regardless of what time it is. No matter which route is chosen, people are going to gripe about it.

Everyone always assumes that where they live must be where everyone who plays lives.

WOW claims that they have done the research and Tuesday morning US timezone is the time which has the least impact on the majority of its customers. I am going to guess that ESO is also trying to minimize the impact on its customers.

I doubt twice a week maintenance will remain the norm early releases always require more maintenance then people expect.

It has nothing to do with them taking the servers down to do work on them.... that we all support. The problems are as follow.
    1) They don't bring down both servers at the same time.
    2) They Bring the servers down for minor patches impacting the entire server for an issue only a small percent complains about.
    3) Downtime is very long for the minor changes they add
    4) Spastic downtime and poor communication during that down time.

So in short the servers have come down 3 times in 7 days already... yeah yeah yeah "it's launch" blah blah blah.... Look I am tired of hearing that sorta half ass excuse.... no really.... it is old. They have been planning for this for years.... they have brought the servers up and down 100s of times since alpha and beta..... the fact the process of doing so is still very sloppy and poorly managed IS NOT OK.

They really need to start setting REGULAR schedules for the servers to come down and go up. Make it Tue and Thu or whatever.... set it at times where it impacts the least amount of people based on TimeZone and duration of time it takes to reboot the servers and you will be in a much better place with being able to pull the servers down and NOT enrage half the people who play your game.

They do need to come up with a better timeframe, but a large percentage of the issues in the patch today (and Saturday) were either going to affect, or had affected a large portion of the player base. I don't consider 15-20% a small amount for one bug alone, i.e. the bank bug. Nor the fact that hardly anyone could finish the final main story quests, and had to grind out their final five levels to 50.

What about the people stuck on main story line quests and so can't proceed in the game. Shall they wait a week so you don't have to experience a few hours of maintenance?

When they complain on the forums that Zeni isn't doing anything to fix their bugs after being unable to play the game for a week, will you post there and tell them. "Sorry, you are going to have to wait, because I don't want to be inconvenienced by your needs."

Well since they are using a "megaserver" which is a MMO term for a cluster of computers, players who work in IT know that people have started to figure out how to make clusters both high available (HA) and high performance (HPC) at the same time.

Some players may need to log out / log in again at the start of maintenance, and all players would need to log in again at the end of maintenance, but the time of unavailability would be minimized (minutes not hours).

Such approaches have added benefit of not needing roll-back if there are problems with the maintenance. These approaches can be made to work for transactional databases with careful consideration.

Hopefully their IT will develop such an approach when practical in the near future. I expect the competitiveness of MMORPG marketplace, while asking for top-dollar, will drive them to pursue a more customer focused maintenance experience in the near future.

What public holiday? Maybe you can submit your personal schedule so others can work when it's convenient for you. What's next? Will you be asking for compensation when you can't play during maintenance? What about when you CAN'T play when the server is up when you are sleeping? Will you ask for compensation then?

This is all normal, of course with all the bugs and gold seller bots it is hard not to complain. But we have 3 types of people when it comes to new released MMO's.

    1. The everything needs to be fixed but leave server up complainer. Or am quitting if server is down or bugs aren't fixed.
    2. Everything will be OK, give them a chance. Or to see game through rose colored glasses.
    3. Other game companies that send people over to just bring down game. Or darn it our game may lose subs kill this before it gets started.

I'm sure there are more but the up side to all this it is all normal and we just eat popcorn and watch the show.

I think adequate notification and communication is what really started things off poorly but they are catching on and doing a better job of it. At this point I just want to see them continue to work on their communication with the community.
