Anchors?

virreab16_ESO
So is there any loot involved, how and what is actually happening other then an achievement. I did a few anchors with different characters now, but after its finished you just stand there asking:"ok well .... nothing?"

no drops, no loot, only an achievement? is it even worth to do these? and is everybody involved in there or is it personal? since a lot are camping near switches.
  • pavelcherepanskyrwb17_ESO
You do anchors for RP reasons and achievements as well. I did get some decent drops from anchors in Cyrodiil but never in PvE areas.

Everyone who participated in battle gets the achievement whether you fight monsters or use switches.

sometimes rare bosses spawn i have had 2 or 3 and got achievements for them too, and i have also had loot drop but rarely for seeing as there is usually a ton of people there and its hard to get a kill running around lol but on other hand i find it fun, people camp switches to get to be the one that closes that device as soon as it opens

Anchors can be fun. I ran up on one once where I was a couple levels under the mobs, an at level dude came up and stood next to me for a second and then went charging in. I kept a HoT on us both by swapping my resto and distro staff, and we worked those mobs like Santa's elves on X-mas eve. It was a pretty fun fight, lot's of close calls, and when it was over we were both /cheer ing away.

Anchors can be boring. A lot of the time there are 10-20 people at the anchor and stuff dies before you can even get a shot off. Before long it's over and you get and achievement, the little skull turns from black to white, and you move on.

Anchors can be rewarding. I once got a blue quality bow from an anchor, it was cool looking as well. I don't use bows so I gave it to my friend and he used it for several levels. Most of the time though the most I get is a soul gem, if I'm lucky.

Anchors might reward XP. I really have no idea on this. I've been meaning to look at my XP before and after, but so far have not. I suspect they do, but I could be way off base.

I absolutely hate that anything at all PVP related is tied to PVE. I think they should take all those PVP boons and leave them in PVP land. However, I think it would be cool if they instead awarded boons in PVE zones for anchors being destroyed. Ah well, I can dream.

You do get loot from the anchor events. I haven't kept a check, but I reckon I get a blue item about half the time.

Sometimes you get loot, sometimes you don't. It's the same system as with public dungeon bosses, as long as you've contributed to the mob's death you have a potential to get loot.

Another good reason to do the anchors are the XP, as long as you get some hits in, you can easily get around 10-12% per anchor.

They will level Fighter's Guild as well, loot is a maybe, you might get something nice you might get nothing at all.

I like to save some AoE love for the last few spawns/bosses of the anchors since they have the best loot. I don't have to be right on target to get a tag in and then switch to another target and tag them, and then try to fight. @Thete‌ is right though, they can and do drop blues items sometimes.

EDIT: The cultists at the start will drop average loot for your level. I have never gotten loot from a mob while destroying the first four anchor pins so it seems to me that middle of the fight has the worst drops.

Actually Loops, rifts between Oblivion and Nirn have been a theme in The elder scrolls several other times. Anchors, portals or any other device of transportation between Nirn and Oblivion have been seen before, and long before Rift.

And you say that 10-12% XP isn't worth the time?

well for me im just a nerd :)

Im going for all the achievements, some of them provide you with a title to choose from, if and when you complete the whole series, if you scroll to the buttom in your achievements book, u can see what title they will give u as a a price, there is one called Monster Killer, that I remember

I have to disagree on the rifts in Rift being fun, the novelty of a full scaled invasion from Lords know where the Xth time over just wears off. And oh so much fun when the entire zone is "locked down" with the whole zone invaded.

I actually got a blue level 10 Inferno Staff of Shock dealing 32 damage. Tossed it to my level 11 Mage and am happy.

That's the only real nice item I've gotten. Everything else was green two handers mostly.

    1. They are fun
    2. You get a fairly decent amount of XP from them (10% + )
    3. Occasionally, you get some really nice drops.

Perhaps for you. I love them; also, they are hardly a core component in the game.

There is mini-boss type monster at the end of the event that will drop some semi-decent loot, but only if you do enough damage/healing during the fight.

Beyond this, there are achievements for completing all of the anchor events in a zone and the EXP gained during anchors contributes towards leveling the Fighter's Guild skill tree.

I wouldn't go out of my way to farm anchors, but I always try to stop and complete one if I'm in the area while it's active.

They really just need some balancing based on the number of participants. Usually they're run over by a horde and all the enemies die in the first second or two. Some sort of dynamic scaling would help a lot in that regard. Look at the public events in WAR for inspiration.

Unless I am over the level of the anchor I usually get a green and sometimes a blue item drop. I don't do them for loot though, gotta stop Molag Bal!

I see this topic sadly as another attraction of the nay say brigade.

Anchors in sum are a nice dramatic distraction. I'll be questing and one drops dramatically and players in the area come to aid.

There's a little too many players some times, but this can be said of all things if the timing and placing are right.

We can all say what Anchors aren't and get a negative jollys, but I choose to quickly sum what they ARE:

    1. Botless, not witnessed one there yet.
    2. Good XP, especially if the dolmen is in an area a few levels higher than yourself.
    3. It does indeed drop on occasion, I have gained a blue weapon from one that was not beaten for 7 levels levels afterwards with my Mage.
    4. Often fun fast combat!

Most questions of a game play mechanic here bring the tiresome kids who are riding out their free trail time. They are leaving soon and hope to take as many players away with them for little more sometimes than this game was too hard or not their individual cup of tea.

They will cough up a random YouTube video of some over opinionated self proclaimed game guru soothsayer or another of course to justify their sulking, none of which impresses me in particular or sways my opinion of game.

I've witnessed enough egotistical pr1cks in love with their own voice in my time without me taking the time watching another one, intentionally mind, on my TV...

Why the hell would some hipster attention *** sway anybody opinion is well beyond my rationale but there we go. The kids seems to love a Shepard on a monitor/TV screen to follow these days. Perhaps it's the cool bully kid in the play ground syndrome or something.

If you choose to have an unbiased view in answer to your concerns or queries with ESO, i'm no fan boy and neutral i'll call it how it is and no different, i'd look else where for the time being.

Now is certainly not the forums finest hour for any Mmorpg that has just launched with a free to play period. It's always a case of just wading through the bitterness and *** to get some truth or a measure of balanced opinion for that first 30 days or so after release.

Thanks everybody for the answes. In the meantime I got some loot from one the endbosses. Guess its a random thing then. Too bad it was as usual not the right loot for my class. Well, that is why I am leveling 3 characters at the same time so at least one of them could use it. (waste of good loot if you cannot use it imo)

I just dont want to feel empty after events like these. There always should be a purpose behind it and some sort of reward and it does, so I will keep doing these anchors.
