How to make your PC run better in AvA?

LegendaryPow
Hey guys I get like 20fps during a massive battle? I get 60+fps everywhere else except there.. So please some tips :D
  • pavelcherepanskyrwb17_ESO
Really hard to give you an advice because you haven't given any indication on what your PC is. Being able to run 60+ fps in most areas is not an indication of the performance of your machine.

As for me, I play on VAIO E15 laptop with i7 quad-core CPU, 8 Gb of RAM, and AMD HD7670M with 1 gig of on-board video memory and all runs just fine. I don't frequent Cyrodiil but I've been in a few large battles and haven't had too big of a drop in fps... Generally stays above 50 with rare drops to 40'ish.

For me, disabling shadows, reducing particle effects and especially world detail and resolution does the trick if I have fps issues.I am playing on a similar laptop as above mentioned, instead I have gtx 740m 2GB graphics card.

as posters have stated without knowing your pc specs we are unable to help you without giving a generic "turn the graphic settings down" answer, my rig gives me 100fps smooth open world, 50-60 in populated cities and around 30ish in PvP yet when it gets to huge battles i still drop to 20 or less, so in PvP i drop graphic settings a bit lower, i think for me its just optimization required but still want to upgrade my system so i can play ultra in PvP with high fps, for example my current specs are:

    Mobo: Crosshair Formula V
    CPU: FX8150@4.4Ghz
    GPU: GTX670 4GB @1189Mhz
    RAM: 12GB Corsair Vengeance @‌1800Mhz
    HDD: 1TB SSHD
    PSU: XFX 650W
    CASE: NZXT Phantom 820

There's an almost magical setting called subsampling. Lowering it to medium or low gives a massive framerate boost at the cost of a very or extremely blurry picture (it changes the internal rendering resolution, while keeping the UI at the native res).
The medium setting might be tolerable if the alternative in large PvP battles are very low framerates.

I turned Steam off the other day when I was struggling with framerates in Daggerfall and it really helped. Don't quote me, because I'm no techie...not by any stretch of the imagination...but I would suspect that turning off unused programs in the background will help.

I believe there's a view distance setting in the game and that's always been something that will up your troubles, so turn it down. Like someone above said, shadows are also a performance zapper.

Is there an option in game to turn vegetation effects down? I know in past MMOs that has been a killer. It's always my most hated setting to turn down because they do such a great job on the scenery, but less clutter will help.

There you go, more of a layman's thoughts, but if something I said helps then that's good. :D

Yes, you can turn off grass in game too, but the funny thing is, while certain settings have a massive impact on performance for me in other games, here they hardly have any. I mean AA, view distance and grass visibility usually amount up to a lot of FPS gain if I disable them, here I get like.... 3 fps difference altogether?

Try opening Task Manager when the game is running, right-click on eso.exe and raise the priority to High. That might help.

Windows doesn't save the change, so next time the priority would be back to Normal. So, if that does the trick, Google for a utility called Prio which will make Task Managers save the setting change.

Personally found turning shadows from Ultra to High to be the most bang-for-the-buck adjustment on my system. Check your shadow settings.

I can't see a different between those two anyway.

Shadows off. Water reflection off. All ON/OFF settings on bottom of screen to OFF.Cyrodiil doesnt look that amazing then without grass and shadows, but you not here for views anyway ;) . You can of course keep some of settings on, just experiment a bit, but changing all of those will give you FPS boost.

It seems like there's a problem with optimization, to me. In crowded cities my frame rate drops from 60 to 30-35. However, my gpu is only at 50% and my cpu is only at 25%. I'm not real tech savvy when it comes to this sort of thing, but why isn't the game utilizing my computer's resources to give me a better frame rate?

Are you using Vertical Sync? If not, start using it.

It may not be the case here, but I often see issues like this caused by lack of V-Sync. Their FPS jumps around so much, that even if it's high it causes perceptual stuttering.

Well, when I went to Cyrodiil during a massive war I turned everything to minimum! EVERYTHING! Like the resolution and and other stuff yet still 20fps?
    Here's my specs
    Ram: 16gb ddr3
    CPU: 3.7 GHZ Overclocked to 4 ( I think)
    Power supply: 230w
Motherboard: I think MSI 2AE0 (Say's that on cpuid)
    GPU: RADEON HD 8570

Sounds like it's the cpu not the graphics then. What cpu model is it? My GT 540m can handle this game on relatively high settings...everything up/on apart from particles at low and shadows on medium. When i run it on an old desktop with gtx 560ti and an old amd processor, apart from shadows, there isn't much difference. (have an i7 in my lappy.)

In pvp the CPU´s are limiting right now. As more players are on your screen, as more work needs to be done by your CPU.

Sadly TESO is not really optimized for multi cores, that why strong duo cores can perform a lot better than those "8" cores of AMD.

You have one core running at around 90%, while the others idle at around 20-25. From my observation it seems like ZO uses one core for all the object´s, players, NPC´s, weather etc. while the other cores only do some basic low end stuff, such as sound fx, commands etc. If optimized, all cores should do the stuff that one core does right now, so you would gain the actual benefit of a multi core system. Hopefully they fix that soon.

Ahhhh righyt! That kinda makes sense for me haha! It's an A10 6800K? Yeah, so hopefully they fix that as I have 8 cores? Im pretty sure! But yeah thanks!

Wait, what? A 230w power supply? You need to double check on that, because your computer wouldnt even run with a 230w power supply.
  • LegendaryPow
Yeah that's what alo of people are saying! But I did double check and yeah

    You can do two things:
    - overclock your cpu
    - wait for the DEVs to optimize the code (after they fixed everything else)
  • LegendaryPow
I suppose I'll wait because I'm not a big AvA considering I'm a low level, once I get to veteran they'll hopefully fixed it by then! Thanks fullas!
