Hello, all! We are aware of the forum issue that is tagging posts as staff whenever a moderator edits a post. We apologize for the confusion, and rest assured that we are actively investigating. Thank you for your patience.

As for edited posts, please rest assured that if we modify a post of yours due to it violating the Code of Conduct, you will receive a private message from our team. That said, if you are quoting a post which has been removed, we will also remove that quote in order to ensure that removed content does not continue to garner discussion. If you have any other questions about this, please don't hesitate to contact our team at https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/.

I also followed that thread from its beginning & I can state with a high degree of certainty that the words of the posters were not changed in any way, the posts were only edited to remove quoted content.

The person whose posts were removed WAS way out of line & I reported EVERY SINGLE one of the posts that has now been removed. I'd bet that I am not the only person who did so however, as all the posts have been removed & it does appear that s/he got a smack with the banhammer.

As far as whether or not the rest of us should be told what was changed & why, I'm sorry but no, that is not our right to know. I would agree though, that if a post is edited to remove quoted content, there should be a little blip that says, "Quote removed by moderator" or something along that line, just to clear up confusion. Those who were fortunate enough not to have seen it in the first place need to know nothing beyond that.

When I clicked the "Staff Post" button for this thread I totally expected to simply see a user's post edited by a staff member. It was nice and surprising to see that it was an actual staff member that posted ;)

Again, you're not seeming to get the issue here. It's well and good to inform the poster, but if notice isn't given on the post itself, all the readers have the potential to be misled as to the poster's original intent. That's deceptive, period. This can not only serve to put out a perception that the post advocated something that it didn't, but when done en masse, can give a general overall perception of a different consensus on an issue brewing in the forum.

Yes, the original poster, thus notified, might choose to delete the post, but the trust in forum posts being actually written by the posters shouldn't depend on emails received, posters being still around or caring, etc.

Again--I don't care about TOS--nobody reads those, people slip in whatever unethical stuff they want in to them. This is a trust issue. A transparency issue. A respect of truth, and respect of your customers, issue. It's simply wrong to change people's words without specific explanation and attribution on the post itself so readers aren't misled.

To reiterate what @ZOS_MichelleA‌ stated earlier in this thread, we only edit posts to remove portions that violate our Community Code of Conduct. We are very careful to preserve the context and intent of the comments we edit (unless, of course, the intent of the post is in violation of our Code of Conduct, in which case we will remove the comment entirely).

Please also understand that as a general policy we never discuss moderation actions – whether it’s post editing/removal, suspension, ban, etc. – with anyone other than the individual(s) who received that action.

One of our main goals with moderation on the forums is to foster constructive and respectful discussion related to the game. We understand and expect that not everyone will agree on every aspect of the game, and that some members of our community may have a very negative opinion about something. Our goal is never to censor negativity, because varying opinions and feedback are what allow our developers to make decisions on how to change and improve the game.

Someone insulted me in a thread and when I responded I got my post removed while theirs stayed there.
