As title says. Sucks for the legit people but they should understand in the long term this is thr best option. If they were able to make legendary gear in 2 weeks of game being live they can make another legit.

2000 gold is an arbitrary number, it could be rolled down to 40k for those who have more than it. Its important to understand the game economy and what the creation of 99 trillion gold on many different accounts will do if all accounts are not caught.

Unless your ok with spending 100k for a vampire bite or 200k for an alchemy mat my suggested fix is the best option to preserve the economy. Just like in real economics when there is sudden creation of wealth via printing money and this leads to inflation there will be major inflation of prices in this game.

In the end the people who didn't cheat will lose out. Your 40k will look like nothing when simple mats begin selling for over 200k. We've seen it happen in plenty of games previously this game will be no different if the money isn't deleted.

I think its naive to think that they will be able to track down 100s-1000s of players who duped on secondary accounts and are laundering money between characters and such.

There are only so many GMs and they are very busy with upcoming patch as well. While an easy solution is to say just ban all of them this is easier said than done its far to easy for people to do things like this and protect their main account and IP address.

Why should I have to go back and do all the hours of ore hunting, create/destructing and craft leveling necessary to create legitimate items just to make you happy?

I don't have any gold stuff yet but I am damn close at level 45 to making my first gold weapon - if someone steals my few gold crafting materials I've been saving I will get very grumpy.

If other people have billions of gold makes no odds to me - I make/loot my own gear.

So please explain why I should understand that destroying the progress I worked hard for is "the best option" ?
The statement "if you put enough monkeys behind enough typewriters... sooner or later one will produce the works of Shakespeare" has sadly been proven utterly wrong by the internet...

    Well think about the options.

First I doubt anyone used their main to dupe prob 2ndary accounts.

Next lets assume people just duped or bought legendary mats. While those had unique ID codes and could have been tracked if they were used to make a legendary weapon ur left with a legendary weapon with a unique id made from duped mats that are now gone and potentially untracable.

Also theres people with 99 trillion gold and all various amounts. They need to just wipe all the gold and reset

As has been stated a million times over, there will be plenty of logs for any exploited equipment and any gold made as a result to removed from the game. It just takes time to track down.

There is zero need for any rollback of any kind.

The majority of the player base are unlikely to have been effected, and within a few weeks anyone that has profited will either have lost their gold or lost their account.

If u leave peolle in game with 10000000 gold the economy is already ruined forever. They wil soon start splitting it between accounts to hide it but that meny is still there.

That amount of gold has already given cheaters and their friends a very unfair advatage

Once again this is going to annoy more people than those worried the economy is broken.
Just talk about the exploit in game and see how many players are clueless it even happened, now imagine all those clueless people get their stuff taken away because of something they didn't know about or have any part in, think they're going to be happy or keep paying ZOS a subscription?

Again with my bad analogies but...
Someone has a printing press and makes millions in fake currency, because of this your government tell the banks to wipe everyone's accounts of all but 2,000(insert your currency here).
Does that seem logical or viable in fixing the issue of fake money?

ZOS need to find and remove items from the duplication bug, and remove gold from accounts that have large numbers of ill gained gold.

Also I keep going to type ISK every time I write gold... :P

People don't have that much gold and if they did they were likely banned, thus that gold is gone. Could they had spread it out to other players? Yes, however thanks to no server wide auction house, the damage is minimal. I really don't think you have any idea about the economy in this game.

I think they should just investigate and remove the cheaters as and when they find them. Call me old fashioned but there you go. At the same time they should fix the relative problems.

You don't throw a whole town in prison because one house was robbed. Punishing innocent people will get you nowhere even with good intentions. The moment said innocents see a gold spammer or a bot there is public outrage. The effect the cheaters have on the game is vastly disproportionate to what people think.

This is a huge issue just banning accounts could easily miss billions of gold. This issue has made it to Forbes online they had a big issue about it. This game is in dire straights without a drastic answer. Rumor on one of the news sites is talking about a full server reset to day 1 which I think is too agressive.
  • lee_mcdonaghb16_ESO
How about they just find the exploiters and ban them and leave the rest of us to enjoy the game?

You do know the guy that wrote that basically hates TESO. Every single article he has ever written about it just smashes the game blindly and blows everything out of proportion. He also constantly shows he knows nothing about the game.

It's not as bad as he makes out. If it was, everyone in game would be feeling it and that simply is not true. Most players are not feeling it. Most dupers did not launder their duped items and gold. The no server wide auction house greatly reduces any impact to the economy than in other games.

I have a question. I keep reading about this unfair advantage that this duped gold is going to cause. What is this? Is it a race? Is it a competition to see who can have the most gold?

Do you really believe that it's the cheaters that will top the PVP charts? Honestly there is no chance of that.

All the cheaters have done is cause irritation and possibly delay to further development.

Some people just need to chill and worry less about what other people are doing. Let the right people do their job and help out if you see any cheats by reporting them. I have no doubt that this will all be dealt with without any lasting effects.

Rather than let it get you down concentrate on your own game. All this will blow over and be forgotten about soon enough and we can all go back to complaining about the lack of xp in PVP.

Well see my suggestion is in the middle of the road between the options being discussed. Ive been playing these games for over a decade ive seen similar bugs ruin games. Well see what they end up doing but id recommend you guys read the other threads discussing much more drastic solutions like roll ack to day 1.

Also its very easy to trade money with accounts or mail to friends and let millions of gold sit in mail.

Im concerned a lot of the people against money rollback in this thread are just dupers trying to protect their millions
