Inability to attack after getting dismounted

ImNewHere
ImNewHere
Did a quick search and couldn't find anything so forgive me if it's already been discussed and I just missed it.

Overlooking any broken quests or bugs, the most frequent issue that I've had in this game that frustrates me to no end is that when I get attacked and dismounted there is about a 50% chance that I will be unable to attack. My character just stands there with his hand held up to his forehead as if he's trying to block or still recovering from the attack and all I can do is run away from the mob unable to use any of my skills. I can still type, use a potion etc. but I cannot use auto attack or any of my slotted skills.

Relogging will fix it or going into a dungeon/house where I have to load but it's getting extremely frustrating knowing that it's not worth it mounting if there's any mobs around that May hit me.

The oddest thing about it is that I always play with my room mate and while it's a frequent issue for me it's never once happened to his character...

So is this a known issue, is this related to anything, is it in anyway avoidable? Please help with any info that may alleviate my frustration.

Thank you.

It has never happened to me. Have you tried a repair of your client?

Do have an extra router/switch Vs your roomate? If so, can you bypass it to test?
"In 2014, a possible bot was sent to coldharbour by a military GM for a crime she didn't commit. This argonian promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Ebonheart underground. Today, still wanted by the developers she survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a bot problem, if no one else can bite you, and if you can find her....maybe you can hire The SQUISHY."

Hey i have had that exact problem several times already...
I even reported it as a bug the first time it happened to me, and it's still happening from time to time, it even made me die on several occasions 'cause the only thing i can do is freakin' run away...
Indeed relogging fixes this issue, shouldn't happen in the first place though!

Repair client? After having problems with the new Windows 8.1 update i had to perform a factory install on my system so i don't think that won't help at at all.
The router/switch will be a dead end too i'm afraid...

What you can try to do, although there's a risk, is to modify the permission of the Zeni folder. Right click, and look for a security tab (then again, I've seen windows8 for 12 minutes, so not sure it is there :) ), then add everyone and put full access, then update for all files/subfolder.

Also make sure your antivirus/firewall is open for both the launcher and the game (add the entire folder if possible to the exception path).

Although I doubt this is the case, a standard network cable will only be reliable until about 80 meters or so (advertised as 100, but that's rarely the case), I'm assuming your network cable never runs over 80 meters in length?

For a test only, can you swap out your network cable with your roomate? Just to see if the cable isn't fautly or damaged (although I doubt your issues would be this specific, but you know, lacking ideas here :) ).

Is your client running as full administrator also?

Do you have any addons? and have you tried disabling them?

If you use your account on your roomate's computer (without sharing your password of course), does the problem happen?

Thanks for the feedback @Squishy‌ but i can rule out several possible fixes you mentioned.

    - antivirus/firewall has all neccessary exceptions needed to play the game
    - my network cable is 2 meters
    - i do have some addons, but i've only added these recently and that problem did occur on my system prior to installing the addons

The system i run it on is a clean install from 08/04/2014 when the new Windows 8.1 Update was released, i haven't done much more lately than play ESO

Next time it happens try to hit Escape or K for skills or similar. Sounds like the same error I get sometimes when I block. Cant attack or use skills. Those things fixes it for me.

this happens 100% of the time to me in 1st person, in the beta a fix was to switch to 3rd person then mount the horse, so when you got dismounted it would stay in 3rd person view, allowing you to then switch to an unaffected 1st person view, as it seamed it was caused by the 3rd/1st person view switch on dismount, however for the past week or so both 3rd and 1st person view dismounts have the problem, though 3rd person is only affected about 50% of the time while 1st person is 100% of the time, so it still pays to switch to 3rd person view before mounting the horse IME

I have had this problem as well, and it was also a problem in beta.
I reported it numerous times, both during and after beta, but its still there.

Its even more frustrating if you get dismounted while surrounded by clusters of mobs, so that no matter where you run you will just aggro more, which in turn ends up getting me killed.
